I think it’s somewhat different. Star Wars merch failed because nobody gave a fuck about the new characters; pretty sure the characters that everyone actually cared about still sold well enough.

He-man is probably more comparable to Transformers. It doesn’t matter if the new Netflix show is shit, people are still gonna buy updated Beast Wars figures because they’re updated Beast Wars figures. As long as the characters are still easily recognizable, the toy line might as well be completely separate from the show.
That seems to have been the case with the first wave. New figures of He-Man, Skeletor, Moss-Man and Battle Cat in classic style (or something very close to it; nobody really liked the design for Evil-Lyn, the consensus being that she looked waaaaay too much like Korra) with modern articulation, hitting at a time when collector-oriented MOTU figures had pretty much dried up (there seems to be very little secondary market for the late "Masters of the Universe Classics" line; those collectors who have them apparently just hoard them and very rarely sell off any part of their collection).

Nah. Those sad fucks are still buying. Preorders went live and sold out yesterday
Pre-orders went live on July 7th, well before the show began streaming.

Couldn’t we have a compromise where Snake Eyes is blond and half-Japanese? Hāfu suffer racism too.

In fact, I was surprised the Renegades incarnation of the character wasn’t explicitly mixed race considering his new backstory. There’s not a lot of ways that a blond blue-eyed teen ends up a street urchin in a medieval Japanese village… in the 1990s?
I don't get why they don't just straight-up adapt his comic book origin story. You want to tell me that a handicapped (mute) protagonist wouldn't win accolades, or that the untold numbers of American soldiers chewed up in the Forever Wars, and their families, wouldn't appreciate a stoic hero who's been horrifically scarred and mutilated by his military service? 🤔

Hell, it worked for Hardcore Henry.

I was counting the preorders at the normie stores.

Not the autists choice like BBTS and Entertainment Earth.

Wouldn’t the story have to be a period piece? Vietnam Vet Snake Eyes would be too old to be a GI Joe now. Going with the Sigma Six: First Strike origin where it’s codenames with suspiciously similar replacements wouldn’t make any sense.

Pre-orders have been up on Walmart's website since well before the show began streaming as well. 🤔

That's where the "sad fucks" tend to pre-order from, not normie stores (excepting when the item in question is a normie store exclusive)

I don't see why the Vietnam setting couldn't be updated to the suspiciously similar quagmire of Iraq.

So what was the point of Andra? She's just awkwardly there the entire time, you could erase her from the show and literally nothing would change. I don't know if Mattel is retarded enough to actually take Teela who from my admittedly limited knowledge about the overall lore and what I remember from the 2002 series is generally considered Adam's love interest similar to how Evil-Lyn is considered Skeletor's fuck toy and turn her into a lesbian.

Then again that She-Ra show exists and look what happened there.

The show is clearly setting up teela to have some big magical power, because she's the daughter of the sorceress. While that would eb a cool idea in a better show, I am sure they will botch it.

Did Kevin Smith do nothing wrong? Could he and his product really just be the result of a hate filled campaign by corrupt fans and a bunch of increasingly irrelevant youtube hacks?
I mean the level of ass pain is disproportional for what boils down to the same mistake transformers made in 86 (kill larger than life hero replace with angsty bore) but I can hardly call it a bad show and it's far from unsalvigable, it's no thundercats roar. It's nice to see sjw's and youtube spergs resuming their co-dependant dynamic from last bowel movement jedi.
Blame dyslexic casting directors.

I've noticed that too, I'm wondering if someone in Holywood has a really fucked up sense of humor behind closed doors

I think part of the reason why this is happening is for a long time we had to hear about people wax nostalgic about the "good old days" which especially ramped up in the 2000s, it's ironic now, but I remember back then you had a lot of cynical people that hated anything new and would only ever go on about how much better the past was, so now we have people defensively saying "no, NOW is the best time there ever was! And we're gonna prove it by retroactively ruining everything you love!"
I think the difference is (or was) that in the 90s and 2000s, nostalgia was mainly boomers and contrarians, claiming all music that isn't the Beatles or Elvis is shit. Some even wanting to limit kids to things they grew up with. Imagine being the kid that is stuck with Bagpuss and hula-hoops when everyone else was watching TNMT and playing Super Nintendo.

Now it's the complete opposite. All the new stuff is trash. I wonder what will be nostalgic 20 years from now because I doubt people are going look back on Steven Universe or Master of the Universe with any real fondness. It could be me being nostalgic like the boomers were, but I don't think that's the case because not even kids are bothering with new shit.

How much of that is people actually buying them, and how many are just scalpers hoping to turn a profit?

Very optimistic.

The adult He-man fans are the ones who put down multiple preorders for several hundred dollars worth of classics series He-man figures sight unseen. They did this every year for years. Even though they might only want a couple figures and would have to flip the rest on ebay.

They have proven they will eat any shit Mattel pushes out and clamor for more.
Yup. Can confirm. There is a genuine issue of addiction in that community. To the point that if you criticize a toy in those groups, they will lose their MINDS on you like you just slapped their mother.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess the following:
  • It's going to be revealed that Andra is the true descendant of King Grayskull (who is black in this) and thus the real heir to the throne. Randor and his family are stewards holding the throne. Not that it matters since they're going to be killed by Skeletor.
  • Andra is going to get the Power and become She-Man or whatever.
  • Teela is going to learn of her heritage and become the new Sorceress with Andra as her champion. They'll scissor to celebrate.
  • Adam will get killed again.

Her magic power is that she's the re-incarnation of The Goddess and eventually gets corrupted by King Hiss

If they turn her green in this version she's going to look like an Orc.

This is a long established thing in the series like the equivalent of X-Men's The Dark Phoenix. And this whole thing started because the original figure came with a cobra headdress who's lore explanation was axed early on and then later re-integrated.
