Yup. I remember her when she was just another dev on the scene who pulled some clout in feminist circles but mainly was fixated on... surprisingly, dev stuff.

She was one of the people who had no problems throwing me under the bus when I was a part of the SJW community for a brief period fighting to get 8chan's funding revoked from patreon. Brianna was one of the people who actually supported Patreon at the time that Baphomet was targeting a lot of people. I think that was about the time she really started losing a lot of footing in the SJW community.

You wouldn't think it seeing how apparently she is connected with Anita and Zoe and stuff, but the less prominent folks in the SJW community have called her out on being an opportunist for a LONG time.

Also most trans folk in the know in gaming think she's pretty awful when it comes to trans representation with how much she'd lied about her transition.

Would you mind telling me about the trans communities you're a part of? I know this is an incredibly broad question and you've already mentioned LOLDRAMA in the past, but I'm honestly fascinated by a group of people so supportive and willing to look out for each other that they'll, well, put up with ADF's bullshit.

TBH it wasn't till answering the questions in the ADF thread I even really considered just how deeply rooted I was in any trans community.

Long story short : I have ultimately never had any over all positive experience in a trans community. Mind you, some of my best friends are really good trans folk, but they also tend to stay away from trans drama.

It's really a shame the whole "poor victim" / SJW narrative of tras folk seems to be the common one right now, because I guarantee you the majority of trans folk just want to be left alone and live their lives. They work hard for their transition and are as sick of all the drama as anyone else.

I feel like I was honest about what I said. If it wasn't for gamergate people fixating on me in a negative way I would never have been a target for the random troll on Baphomet. I was angry, scared, and losing my mind at the time, so yeah, I probably was a lot more dramatic about it than it deserved, but I feel like I was being pretty honest.

Funny story, I actually have been in contact with the person who SWAT'd me and he's pretty chill and explained to me even further just how random and lazy the SWATing was.

Also, when I followed up with the Portland police it was really hilarious as they apparently didn't have my SWAT really on file or anything and kept tossing me between departments as I was trying to give them more information. Eventually some guy just gave up and told me "We have an internet guy who will take care of it." lol

In case you didn't know, CBC and I actually had dealings long before gamergate IRL that spilled over into gamergate. That was probably the most hilarious circumstances of the entire fiasco. There was definitely a point we were both using GG / anti GG to try and fuck with each other. It was incredibly amusing.

First I'd pay off my debts. Then I'd get the remaining surgeries I want for my transition. I'd buy a very small cottage towards Eugene, OR, or hell, maybe even in Portland proper (though I'm growing to hate Portland). I'd put away enough money to live comfortably the rest of my life so I could focus on game development, music, and art.

If I had any money left over after all of that I'd make sure my parents, brother, and sister never had to work again if they didn't want to, and then probably toss $50k each to a bunch of my favorite artists / devs to give them some breathing room.

I also have some business ideas I'd invest heavily in and get off the ground. I've had tons of start up concepts for years that I've seen time and time again other people jump on board before I ever even had a chance in hell of raising the money to be a part of, so I guess I'd become a bit of a venture capitalist (is that the term?) on the side.

So I have this thing where I confuse people's names / avatars and for the longest time I thought David Gallant was David Lindsey, co-creator of Depression Quest, which is probably the only reason I ever gave him the time of day way back when, way back before gamergate.

Gallant was one of those people who fixated on me early on and was part of the weird radical SJW niche that was well established before gamergate. I'd argue he was a big part of why I had so many folks hating on me before gamergate was even a thing. I mean, that's the thing a lot of people don't realize about my part in gamergate is that I was the only indie dev before GG hit that was really fighting head to head with all the socjus people gamergate would eventually dig up dirt on.

Anyhow, I hardly remember any of my original interactions with Gallant other than I know he kept company with a troll known as Fake Robot Gamer as well as the Fuck No Video Games crew and he spent a lot of time harassing me and metaphorically jerking off to socjus long before he got off to gamergate.

He's the personification of unchecked mental illness in the SJW indie gaming community imho, and I only feel sorry for him, and for myself for ever giving him the time of day and letting him and his fucked up circle have influence over me.

So yeah, sorry. No funny stories. Just sadness with that dude. :/

Most of the people put into the line of fire around here are usually the ones without the capability to be self-aware, in that they don't recognize the issues they have. On the first point, to be honest, I've been around enough functionally mentally ill people the past few years that I genuinely believe there are those out there that current psychology / medicine on a broader sense simply can not help, and they are often times who lolcow cults fixate on.

The way you phrased that "are capable of self awareness"... I feel like that's more of a justification for people to feel okay about watching these train wrecks with the hope somehow doing so will become a part of the lolcow's redemption, but the truth is, a lot of people in this world are beyond help. I was fortunate because I came from a fairly stable place to begin with and have been raised to have a sense of self correction in my shit behavior... but people who are brought up in circumstances where they are rewarded for being the victims of the world while they have every opportunity to fight for themselves will never learn to fight for themselves and will continue the cycle of self victimization and drama.

At least, that's been my experience, which is once again, why I try my best to just stay the fuck away from anyone with a history of not taking care of themselves or are around people who are incapable of taking care of them.

I think most relationships are built on that structure tbh. There's always someone who needs help and someone who helps themselves who somehow benefits from the person who needs help. Obviously there are extreme examples of this, often found in the lolcow communities, but think about most mutually beneficial relationships and there is some element of this power dynamic with the person who needs help never really genuinely fighting for themselves in the long term.

As far as game dev goes, as I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm a huge fan of Contstruct 2. It's easy to jump into and prototype a project without all the minutia you have to code in GameMaker, but also has depth that allows you to go pretty deep. It's great for folks like me who like doing 2D games and want to focus on design rather than the technical side of things, but still wants an incredibly amount of flexibility.

Cool. When this AMA cools down and I have more free time I'll definitely drop by, though I'm a little reticent to engage in GG related stuff since it involves me having to explain so much about what my part was... definitely when I have more energy.

I've been aware of lolcow style places online for a long time but wasn't familiar with it as a term / more focused engagement until the past year.

I knew Kiwi farms was one of many lolcow sites, like the sub forum on 8chan, and that it had been threads about me and some other trans folk, but it definitely seemed the least harmless of all the lolcow communities I became aware of.

Honestly, I think there's something a little "unwell" about anyone who spends a shit ton of time on a forum or social networking site, regardless of the thing you are obsessing over. This kind of shit is escapism, and I mean hell, the only reason I'm hear engaging ya'll is I needed a break from a lot of drama in my life recently and I figured this might be cathartic, especially since it seemed actual conversation was taking place here rather than just the emotional barking that happens on twitter or 8chan.

I don't mean to be a dick, but I've spent a great deal of the past decade fixated on forums, hemming and hawing over bullshit and it's always been escapism or distraction to a fault. at least in my own life... but I mean, I guess if this is what ya'll do to unwind, it's no worse or better than a video game. I guess it honestly just eeks me out a bit when it comes to others obsessing over those who everyone here seems to agree it not mentally well. It's like... the lowest hanging fruit, ya know?

Then again, what makes the common man or woman gossiping over celebrities and worse or better than ya'll obsessing over lolcows?

We've entered an age where no one is really safe from public scrutiny anymore, and it'll be fascinating to see how the next generation deals with this shit since they are going to grow up being keenly aware of how information and lives being broadcast online can be used for and against them in a really serious way.

... but to answer your question. I was worried Kiwi Farms was going to be more of the usual noise that comes from twitter / chan drama and have been pleasantly surprised that it's instead filled with some decent discussion. With what you said about how I phrased "are capable of self awareness", I see what you mean. I've never been under the impression that making fun of people will improve them by causing them to want to change. As it would turn out, the repetitive treatment of being made fun of actually causes people to become more like how people describe them.

Spoiler: Prepare for a story about my childhood

For instance, I knew a girl in the past who was incredibly nice, but she had bad hygiene and was over-weight. Now, I'm not a particularly thin guy myself, but I still joined the others in the fray for a short time before my morality came back and I began regretting everything. Not only did this girl go from being nice to being absolutely snidey with everyone, but her hygiene deteriorated further. About a year after those events, I felt horrible about it. It's still with me to this day (Which hasn't actually been that long once put into perspective).

I also agree on what you said about victimization. I've been under the impression my whole life that the way you should handle situations is by being strong and clear headed, and I still stick to that. As you said, if you're rewarded for self-victimization, you'll never learn how to help yourself.

About what you said with avoiding those who are unstable, I learned the hard way to do that.
And to be honest, I think having gone through something like that has actually shaped me into a more understanding and better person, but who knows. Avoiding it from now on is the solution, as you said.

On the subject of Contruct 2, I've heard that it's a good engine. Taking a peek at it one time, I saw that what they said was pretty accurate. I only stick to GM:S because my past with coding is mostly related to C++. Of course, GM:S is a bit more monotonous with game development because while you've got the positives to using a C++ based coding engine, you end up with all of the negatives as well. Plus exporting to HTML5 to make webgames costs $200.00 dollars to get the exporter. So that sucks a bit.
