I barely see any appeal to this show besides Zero Two, the animation, cinematography, some of the designs (particularly the mechs), and some tracks. Try to compare this show to say G Gundam. In that show, guess what happens in the end. You pretty much have "love and friendship" win the day there too, but whereas it feels completely stupid and sort of out of left field in Darling in the Franxx, in G Gundam, it feels like something you'd expect given how absolutely ridiculous that show was from pretty much beginning to end.
Like I said, I am extremely divided in terms of my feelings for it (G Gundam is awesome btw).

For me at least, when the show focused on Hiro and Zero Two, that was when it was at its strongest, and heck, the whole love and friendship angle I also felt worked when it came to those two, as we got to see how their connection allowed their characters to grow and find purpose. Unfortunately, when it tried to shift its view to other characters, and also when it hit the last four episodes with the main villain, it all started to fall apart. Especially since the ultimate bad guy had very little to do with the two main characters' plight.

Despite all this, I still can't say I disliked the show, and I would honestly like to see the creators make more of it, perhaps as a way to fix what was broken. It's just a shame it has so many flaws.

Personally, I enjoyed the themes the show had the possibility of touching on in greater focus that just didn't happen along with an intriguing world that they also didn't build on. Way back in the thread I even wrote my own autistic fanfic of how the show could have gone based on those things. Darling just feels like a pile of wasted potential which, at least for me, makes it sting more seeing how poorly its world/themes/story/characters were handled by people that seemingly didn't get any of them.

It happens with any anime original series that holds promise of turning out great and why watching them is like holding your breathe waiting to see if it sticks the landing. You have success like ID:Invaded, but there's an even greater pile of wasted potential that shits the bed in the last bit (Kado, Darling, Gargantia, Kabaneri, etc.) which makes getting invested in any of them a massive gamble.

I'd also have to agree that Hiro and Zero Two were probably the best parts of the series, whenever the episode shifted to others it felt a lot weaker since they didn't properly develop any of them. I'd also put Goro as an honourable mention of being the only other one with anything going for him, even if most of my liking is sympathy towards all the shit Ichigo put him through.

Honestly I thinking watching the series week by week on /a/ probably is where my fondest memories of the series come from because they were full of speculation/discussion/fanart/shitposts. Most anime original threads have similar feels, but man did the Darling threads get massive. Watching it all come crashing down live over the last several episodes was a true spectacle to behold.

With how much they botched the second half of Franxx, it should have just ended at episode 15. I agree on the wasted potential, it felt like they were trying way too hard to recreate Gurren Lagann in the end. They essentially threw away the entire world they had created and the issues the world had that they were just starting to flesh out. Then they completely change course. Oh, you thought this was going to be a story about a group of people rediscovering their humanity and breaking their conditioning in an essentially brainwashed society? Here's some evil aliens that were the actual bad guys all along, and have some giant space titties too!

Unfortunately the episodes before that and the controversy surrounding them is what this show will be remembered for:

We even had a thread about that:

Oh yeah, I remember that stupid controversy. Didn't a bunch of spergs send death threats to Ichigo's VA too?

Okay...whats the general consensus on Cross Ange? Aside from the incredibly unrealistic outfits and rape I was thinking of watching it. I've had Yoko Takahashi's theme song on my iPod forever.

I know ANN threw a fit about episode 1. I have heard that despite the show being fanservice central (the villain spanks the rival girl on his lap for some reason?) Ange actually, through all intents and purposes, develops as a character.

Has anyone watched that welcome to demon school iruma kun? If so is it any good? The MC looks like deku with blue hair

I enjoy it. The side characters have a lot more to do and generally are just more fun. The main character goes through decent character development and the anime actually improves on the original work. Its not as serious and more of a comedy, but I feel it's worth it. The music is fun, too.

Does it have cool fights or anything? I have the brain of a rabbit and only enjoy flashy cool fights

Iirc they tend to be short and flashy, later on is when they get a bit longer, but its not much of a battle shonen if that's what you're expecting.
thanks for the info, I've seen pretty much all the major battle shonen if u got any anime recommendations with cool fights or really any anime u like at all I'm open to suggestions

Yeah it's good. It definitely feels like an early to mid 00s shonen series (think some people where comparing it to stuff like Hayate or Rosario Vampire when it first came out but it managed to find its own groove after awhile).
First season is a bit slow and not a lot of battles, manga is just starting to set up some so there's that if you want to check it out.

Cross Ange..................erm, how do I describe it?

It's basically Sunrise at their most insane, much in the same vein as Valvrave The Liberator. So you can expect tons of crazy plot twists, ridiculous scenarios, and characters who aren't exactly the brightest. But it is highly enjoyable because of all that. And yes, Ange is the main reason it all works, as she goes through a pretty decent character arc, to the point that she may actually be one of my favorite Sunrise heroines (almost on par with Rukino Saki from the aforementioned Valvrave). Overall, I'd actually recommend the show, but just be prepared for some insane hijinks.

And personally, I actually liked Valvrave (or at least its first cour) more, and wish Sunrise would make more of it.
