Middle school students in Tacoma, Wash. were given a flyer detailing their legal rights on sex-based issues, including their ability to get an abortion without informing their parents.

The flyer distributed by an 8th-grade teacher at Stewart Middle School frustrated some parents who thought the subject matter was inappropriate.

The school has since apologized and said the document was put together by Planned Parenthood, not the individual teacher.

The pamphlet informed students about which age groups they were allowed to have sex with, detailing that "it is not a crime" if a child is 11-years old and has "sex with somebody 2 years older or less."

The document detailed the legal parameters in which students can engage in sexual behavior between the ages of 11 to 18.

Students were also told, "You can buy condoms at any age" and that Plan B Emergency Contraception can be purchased "at a local pharmacy without prescription at any age."

"The flyer is not part of our curriculum and should not have been sent home with students," Assistant Director of Secondary Education Eric Hogan said in a letter to a concerned parent, first reported the Jason Rantz Show.

"Previously, Planned Parenthood taught within our schools and supplied the flyer that was distributed to students," Hogan wrote. "We discovered a binder of curriculum materials was left behind for an incoming teacher to use for this year, and this flyer was in the binder. Not realizing the flyer wasn’t approved material, the teacher sent it home with students."

The school said it has removed any "unapproved materials" and informed teachers and administrators to ensure this flyer is not distributed again in the future.

"Corrective action has been taken with this employee," Hogan said, apologizing on behalf of the school and district.

One of the reasons pregnancy and birth is so much more dangerous for children is because women's bodies continue developing even after menarche. Full hip width, body fat, and even full height still arent reached until a girl is in her late teens or 20s. Even the slightest difference in hip width can mean the difference between life and death in childbirth.

This might be surprising but I did not spring fourth fully formed from my father's forehead, but i was once a kid myself and I still remember what it was like and what went wrong.

And either way middle schoolers dont need to be forced to give birth, especially not to rape babies.

If a kid is old enough to get pregnant (i.e. they've hit menarche), they're old enough to learn about everything related to pregnancy including abortions and how to get them should the worst happen. Sorta like how as soon as kids are old enough to understand, they need to be taught the proper words for body parts and get the good touch/bad touch talk. Whether Sanger in fact wanted to eliminate the African-American population is unclear for me. On one hand, she says this, but the way she phrases it suggests that the idea that she "[wants] to exterminate the Negro population" wasn't the message she wanted to send out because it was in fact not what she was trying to accomplish. I can't find illegitimacy stats for the black population in the early 20th century, but if the numbers were concerning (well, at least for her) and the poverty rates for that community were already setting off alarms in the States, her particular goal may have been population control. Which is still pretty heinous, all things considered, and the way she finishes off the quote (suggesting that those who would be wary of initiatives that would lead them to reproduce less were "rebellious") is condescending, at bare minimum.

Hopefully, because everyone needs access to reproductive healthcare including abortion and minorities and lower income classes usually have the hardest time getting it.

Unfortunately like I said lower income and minority areas are actually the places where clinics tend to be at greatest risk of being forced to shut down. You do get tons of Crisis Pregnancy Centers in those areas though, which are fake clinics run by fundies that exist solely to try and manipulate vulnerable women and girls into not aborting.

Problem is kids not being given comprehensive sex ed is proven to have massive consequences. Abstinence only states have the highest rates of teen pregnancy and shit and children have died from being unable to access safe abortions.
