War Planned Parenthood flyers given to 8th graders informs students they can get abortion without parental consent

Middle school students in Tacoma, Wash. were given a flyer detailing their legal rights on sex-based issues, including their ability to get an abortion without informing their parents.

The flyer distributed by an 8th-grade teacher at Stewart Middle School frustrated some parents who thought the subject matter was inappropriate.

The school has since apologized and said the document was put together by Planned Parenthood, not the individual teacher.

The pamphlet informed students about which age groups they were allowed to have sex with, detailing that "it is not a crime" if a child is 11-years old and has "sex with somebody 2 years older or less."

The document detailed the legal parameters in which students can engage in sexual behavior between the ages of 11 to 18.

Students were also told, "You can buy condoms at any age" and that Plan B Emergency Contraception can be purchased "at a local pharmacy without prescription at any age."

"The flyer is not part of our curriculum and should not have been sent home with students," Assistant Director of Secondary Education Eric Hogan said in a letter to a concerned parent, first reported the Jason Rantz Show.

"Previously, Planned Parenthood taught within our schools and supplied the flyer that was distributed to students," Hogan wrote. "We discovered a binder of curriculum materials was left behind for an incoming teacher to use for this year, and this flyer was in the binder. Not realizing the flyer wasn’t approved material, the teacher sent it home with students."

The school said it has removed any "unapproved materials" and informed teachers and administrators to ensure this flyer is not distributed again in the future.

"Corrective action has been taken with this employee," Hogan said, apologizing on behalf of the school and district.

But their parents and I don't want them getting abortions without our knowledge. If they want birth control, I'm hoping they will feel comfortable enough to go to their patents with this request and not sneak off to PP because that company said "It's ok, we won't tell!"

Unfortunately children need to have the right to get an abortion without parental knowledge due to how many crazy abusive parents exist who would prevent their kid from being able to have one, I'd imagine especially in cases of child sex abuse. The Becky Bell case is a horrific example of some of the other possible consequences.

When I was 11 I played in the creek with my toy dinosaurs (and still do tbh), but if I was molested by someone with a penis I could've gotten pregnant and needed an abortion, and would have definitely not wanted to involve my parents (neither would have reacted in a way that was good).

The good news is that at least dinosaurs still roam the earth even if one is currently eating my blinds

But that could allow a molester to get away with what he did, and assault another child.

I understand both sides, but it's a hard position to find oneself in. Kids need sex ed, but I feel like PP goes a bit overboard with it at times.
 
I'm not reading the retarded replies here, but that's a good thing, considering what some parents would do to their daughters if they found out that they were pregnant.

Another thing, not about abortion specifically, is that birth control has uses other than pregnancy prevention and kids absolutely need to know about it for those reasons as well. If anything even elementary schoolers should get told medication exists to treat heavy periods when you give them the puberty talk. You shouldn't have, say, a kid whose been suffering horribly every month since age 9 going without knowing theres shit she can do to help that get fixed.

So yeah, lotta reasons middle school kids need thorough info about everything related to reproductive healthcare.

And not allowing the victim to get an abortion could cause her to die. We know for a fact that's happened before. Plus healthcare workers are mandated reporters and I would think anyone would report a pregnant 11 year old coming in for an abortion.

I've powerleveled a lot but I live and grew up in the bible belt and got abstinence only sex ed at school. Not even allowed to discuss abortion, homosexuality, or masturbation beyond providing a definition, nothing about birth control other than exaggerated failure rates, and the only thing we got told to treat period issues was pop a midol a take a hot bath (which generally isnt gonna cut it if you got shit like pcos or endometriosis, which even children can get). If I got molested and impregnated like in my earlier hypothetical, I would've been shit outta luck and had no clue what to do.

So it was a mistake…. THIS year. But apparently they’ve been distributing this flyer for years and this is the first time they got caught.

And of course our two resident abort-a-potties are in the thread to make this all about how “vital” abortion rights are rather than having the basic decency to be horrified about Planned Pedophiles trying to further break down the idea that children can‘t consent.

Children can't consent, but unfortunately they can still get pregnant. If God forbid that happens, they need to be able to get a safe abortion without having to get approval from someone who might be abusing them, and they need to know they can do that. Children have died from not having these things, especially since pregnancy/birth is particularly dangerous for them.

It's highly unlikely to go wrong as long as its carried out under the supervision of trained medical professionals (definitely way less likely to go wrong than forcing a child to give birth), but I'd imagine the same thing that would happen if any other minor outpatient procedure went wrong.

Now if a girl doesn't know she can or isnt able to get a safe abortion without parental consent and tries her luck with backalley shit, she might end up like Becky Bell and dying horribly from sepsis.

Personally, I'll take the option that includes way less dead girls.
 
I don't think I've seen anybody mention this yet, but children are going through puberty earlier nowadays due to the very high calorie and hormone-rich diets First World countries have. That itself is nightmarish (since their minds are maturing, if anything, slower).
