Middle school students in Tacoma, Wash. were given a flyer detailing their legal rights on sex-based issues, including their ability to get an abortion without informing their parents.

The flyer distributed by an 8th-grade teacher at Stewart Middle School frustrated some parents who thought the subject matter was inappropriate.

The school has since apologized and said the document was put together by Planned Parenthood, not the individual teacher.

The pamphlet informed students about which age groups they were allowed to have sex with, detailing that "it is not a crime" if a child is 11-years old and has "sex with somebody 2 years older or less."

The document detailed the legal parameters in which students can engage in sexual behavior between the ages of 11 to 18.

Students were also told, "You can buy condoms at any age" and that Plan B Emergency Contraception can be purchased "at a local pharmacy without prescription at any age."

"The flyer is not part of our curriculum and should not have been sent home with students," Assistant Director of Secondary Education Eric Hogan said in a letter to a concerned parent, first reported the Jason Rantz Show.

"Previously, Planned Parenthood taught within our schools and supplied the flyer that was distributed to students," Hogan wrote. "We discovered a binder of curriculum materials was left behind for an incoming teacher to use for this year, and this flyer was in the binder. Not realizing the flyer wasn’t approved material, the teacher sent it home with students."

The school said it has removed any "unapproved materials" and informed teachers and administrators to ensure this flyer is not distributed again in the future.

"Corrective action has been taken with this employee," Hogan said, apologizing on behalf of the school and district.

Ah yes, lets give my middle school aged kids a pamphlet on sex and how they can get knocked up at 13.

“Previously, Planned Parenthood taught within our schools and supplied the flyer that was distributed to students,"
Oh okay that’s so much better. In retard logic I’m guessing that somehow means the school was completely uninvolved in encouraging 11 year olds to have sex with 13 year olds. For a second there one might think something absolutely atrocious was happening.

There's a huge difference in maturity between an 11 year old and a 13 year old. Same with a 13 year old and a 15 year old ect...

If your 11 year old is having sex something is wrong. Maybe even in your own home.

Whoever drew this flyer up should be fired from the organization. Planned Parenthood does a lot of good things. This isn't one of them.

"Nobody wants to sexualize your children, you evil reich-wing bigot! We just have this detailed set of instructions about how to skirt being charged with statutory rape and procure abortions without the knowledge of the child's parents!"

The person who isn't smart enough to fire off an email to a principal saying 'hey this binder of sex materials was left here by the last teacher. Is this shit kosher, or should I burn it?" is teaching your kids.

Teacher colleges aren't sending their best.

Well, isn't it great that corrective measures were taken, right?
Just a question, though. Why was Planned Parenthood teaching in your school in the first place?

"The slippery slope's only a fallacy, sweaty, we're not gonna indoctrinate kids about sex!" - Liberals 10 years ago

Based PP and Based Tacoma, kids have died due to being unable to get an abortion without parental consent. This is actually really good info kids need to be taught and could literally save someone's life.

"Our distasteful plans have gone public, and, in response, we have decided to do a better job keeping our distasteful plans secret in the future so this won't happen again"

11 year olds shouldn't be having sex but unfortunately some do and either way many 11 year olds are capable of getting pregnant and thus needing an abortion. By 8th grade a vast majority of girls will be capable of getting pregnant so they absolutely need to know their rights to abortion.

The Sammie Bushart thread in Deathfats is a great example of what happens in places where kids arent taught this stuff and get abstinence only shit instead. Or the Becky Bell case.

Degrees to get into teaching isn't even half of it. Once you're done with college, it's then time to get a state license, and being controlled by the state, every state is different. Then you have your different districts, school boards, and other bureaucracies. Is this teacher a retard, yes; but I'd put plenty of blame on bureaucracy to where "a former teacher had this." The school is only taking action because they got found out.

I can walk with them to that pier that children should be informed of their rights, should they find themselves in that situation, by a nurse or by a personal legal aid. If an 11 y/o girl was raped and impregnated and her parents are crazy abusive Catholics that want to force her to give birth and raise the byproduct, then yes, she should be informed of her right to proceed without parental consent.

But handing out flyers to every kid in school that basically say “Hey kids! Don’t want mom and dad to find out you’re having unsafe sex? Just pop into the clinic no questions asked!” is so beyond inappropriate. It sends such a warped message and anyone who would actually volunteer to participate in handing such flyers to actual fucking children is probably an age-is-just-a-number kind of person.

Whoever distributed that flyer needs to be fucking arrested let alone fired.
Thank you for telling the internet that you think informing girls of their reproductive rights should be a crime

Nah doubt abortions are free even if you are a kid. If you're capable of getting pregnant (which most girls are by 8th grade), you need to know your rights and how to access an abortion if the worst happens. You cant always tell which kids are the ones who go home to a terrible abusive homelife getting raped by dad every night so might as well be safe and make sure all the kids have the info, as well as info about everything related to reproductive health including what to do if you're being sexually abused.

Withholding comprehensive sex ed is actually one of the reasons kiddie diddling is so rampant in isolated, conservative religious communities. If all you've been taught about sex is it's bad and you're worthless if you aren't a virgin before marriage, then you are a lot less likely to speak up about how your uncle sneaks into your room and does bad shit. The more informed kids are, the more likely it is they'll be able to get the help they need.

Encouraging 11 year olds(or in this case informing 14 year olds 12 year olds are fair game) to have sex is a crime and telling them how to kill infants should be.

I understand the teacher or PP wont be charged because this is a fallen world in a country under active judgement

Thanks for keeping these threads alive with your dogshit opinions, atleast that way more people see how fucked up things currently are. Otherwise this thread could've died.

None of the materials encouraged kids to have sex. It just explained to them factual information and legal shit kids need to start being taught around that age. Nothing about how to kill infants either but that would be badass (pretty sure even middle schoolers could figure that out on their own, babies arent exactly hard to kill lol).

With age of consent laws that specifically is more about keeping kids from accidentally becoming sex offenders than anything else. Before overhaul Florida especially used to be notorious for kids becoming sex offenders for shit like banging a 15 year old at 17. It's important kids for kids to know what the laws are so they can decide whether it's worth the risk of becoming a sex offender before you're even out of high school.

On one hand, I can sort of agree with you, but on the other hand...
I have 11 and 13 year old granddaughters. I trust their parents have given them age-appropriate sex information.
But their parents and I don't want them getting abortions without our knowledge. If they want birth control, I'm hoping they will feel comfortable enough to go to their patents with this request and not sneak off to PP because that company said "It's ok, we won't tell!"

When I was 11 years old, dinosaurs still roamed the earth, and I was still playing with Barbie dolls. I feel bad for the kids today.
