He's got no clue that's what they were doing and in a sense I'm not sure the women making the attempted insult even realized he was so dense he would take it at face value. If they were someone sane they'd realize immediately they're getting a piss take, they've got a forehead you can advertise on, wide shoulders, and a bull ring.

You never had a depressed and whiny friend, always fishing for compliments?

Also nurses and physicians are trained to deal with depressed and self-depreciating patients gently and by uplifting them. Their goal is to puff him up enough so he can feel better and be functional. Not to cue him on the fact that a plane could land on his forehead.

Dress like a man, have masculine hobbies, a masculine job, like feminine women. But Gaydens? It doesn’t make sense. They like being feminine! They want to be feminine! Its down to far too much yaoi and shonen-ai. I have personal experience here.
Im a trained artist who actually used to enjoy a good bit of yaoi, but most of it is fairly bad so I started producing it instead. I was quite popular on Y!Gallery maybe a decade ago, one of those contributors who didn’t have that fucking awful rote-learned cod-anime style that I notice seems even more prevalent now, but I digress. Even back then the place was full of enbys and ‘questioning’ wannabe fem-boys. Those types, without fail, always cleaved to the uke characters, the ones that are basically cute tiny girls with no tits and a dick. They rejected femaleness, and I can’t entirely blame them, it can be a shitty deal, but they still wanted All The Feminine. Its like a female equivalent of AGP, but with some significant differences, as the sexual side is purely restricted to physicality, the fantasy personality and behaviour is still truly girlish. There’s one hell of a PHD paper in this for anyone brave enough to look at it objectively and ignore the screeching. I also suspect that if these types troon out, they are the most likely to detransition, as being a short fat balding manlet with a scarred up chest and pubey beard is miles away from being a perpetually 13 yo looking cat eared twink, and gay men do not want to fuck you.
Oh and I left Y!Gallery when I just couldn’t put up with the increasing amounts of gross shota stuff on there. Ew.

He also isn't knowledgeable enough about 'girl world' to realize that his wife is either buying new makeup in the vain hope that he will try to use some of it, or (more likely) she is going through the famous 'I have decided to divorce my spouse and I have decided to work harder on my appearance in preparation for being single again' phase.

Wow, he really doesn't get it. "Wow, you're so pretty, I wish I was as pretty as you!" should not be met with, "Yeah, you're right, I'm hot." Come on, dude. This comment is dead-on, women like to reassure one another and "open up" about their flaws because nobody wants to be around someone who thinks they're better than the rest.

There's even a Mean Girls scene about it.


Now, maybe in an ideal world, there'd be no need to criticize yourself before you can compliment others. But that's separate from the fact that if someone is being down on themselves, it's polite to say something nice back!
 
The way the people in the thread misrepresent what is happening shows a really terrible view of women, doesn't it? Female friend groups being "founded on mutual jealousy"? Yes, women can be jealous and catty (although that's more a teenage girl thing than a woman thing, and if you don't hate yourself you learn to avoid the ones who don't grow out of it) but acting like that is the basis of friendship for grown women is some incel-tier bullshit. Particularly because in this guy's case (with the possible exception of the wife) the women expressing 'jealousy' are actually being nice and trying to make him feel better about himself because they pity him.

I slightly disagree, I think there is a level of female friendship at which you can tell each other "Wow, you look hot!" "Don't I? Isn't this dress amazing?" but I suppose that is not relevant because I can't see this guy ever getting there.

I feel bad for him, he is in a world where no one is going to be honest with him. He is actually quite slender with a narrow bone structure, some bangs and better makeup would actually do him wonders.

Yeah, I do think that is what strong friendships should do. It's just that if girls with lower confidence are all together, compliments tend to come out with caveats and hedging. They mostly mean well but want their friends to boost them up, so it's sort of a dance where everyone's trying to make each other feel good even if they're really unsure of themselves. I hope that makes sense. It's probably just how women are socialized, not necessarily a hard and fast rule.

I think in this guy's case, he sees transphobia that might not be there because he doesn't know that a lot of women do the compliment/self-criticism thing. He could just say, "Thanks, you rock too, don't be so hard on yourself!" but he overthinks it because girls are a little more roundabout when they talk and it might sound like they really hate themselves when really they're just trying to be nice.

The comments are like "Uh...the rainbow was already supposed to represent everyone". My favorite thunk provoking comment was that all the additions are starting to cover up the original rainbow more and more.
Some people who comment on pink news are wild though. There was an article about a tran assaulted at a launderette. By what is supposedly a gang. Someone replied something like "JK Rowling are you happy?" Someone else implying that she's the one who instigated attacks. So....JK Rowling is responsible for a black gang in a mostly black area in the United States savagely beating up people. Yes, I'm sure they defer to a non violent British writer when they think about their next move.
