I'll never understand why some anime shows have ridiculously long names.

"Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls Inside a Dungeon?"

"I Couldn't Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job"

"Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren't They?"

"It's Not My Fault That I'm Not Popular!"

It doesn't mean the show's automatically terrible (after all, Watamote's great), but it's a bit off a turn off when I have a hard time figuring out how to abbreviate the show

I recall one called "Listen to me girls, I am you father".

Japanese always tend to make portmanteaus to these shows when the titles are like that.

Okay, so:

Saw Dragon Ball: Resurrection F in the theaters twice( I'm a huge DBZ fan). It was great, however not as good as Battle of Gods, mainly due to the fact that characters that Toriyama fit into BoG(Goten, Trunks, Buu, Satan, etc.) were all kicked out for the film just to be
an all out battle against Freeza.
Also, the animation wasn't spectacular, often doing the Berserk GA trilogy way of battles. the CG was better than Berserk and BoG(which only used it twice for characters, if I'm remembering correctly), but it was off-putting, to say the least. 2D was standard Toei, meaning inconsistencies out the ass. Overall, it was basically one of the DBZ film that were made before BoG, AKA just a big battle, no real substance, but with the production value of BoG, and that Toriyama charm that all those older films.

Finished Bakemonogatari earlier today. It was great. Probably the best SHAFT show I've seen. Also started reading the LN(assuming we're talking about LNs here, which I assume we are).

Started reading and watching Soul Eater. I'm loving the style so far.

Got back into Fullmetal Alchemist, and picked up volume 4. It was worth it. Getting better with every volume.

Got Samurai Champloo. It's good, a lot like Bebop, which is a great thing.

Funny stuff going on in the Free! fandom right now.

Ever since the voice cast was announced for the Funimation dub of the second season, many fans were stoked and couldn't wait for the dub to make its debut. Now that it's out, however, there's been a huge backlash. Apparently Funi pulled a 4kids and completely rewrote the dialogue, having the characters constantly call each other "bro" and "man", in addition to Americanizing phrases and foods. Ex: "Douchebag", "Daddy's gotta get his freak on" and "dick lasagna." It seems like they tried really, really hard to nail it in that none of the guys are or could be gay, which the yaoi-loving fandom isn't taking very well either. Though to be fair, a bunch of fans are actually just laughing at how bad it is and have made memes out of the ridiculous script changes, which I can't say aren't well-deserved.

Anyway, as someone who was never excited about the dub in the first place, I think the shitstorm is hilarious. It's like the DiC dub of Sailor Moon all over again.

...dick lasagna?

Didn't the fandom also freak out when Vic Mignogna was announced to voice a character? Because he said some controversial things in the past?

Finally got back to reading Gundam the Origin, since I've had volume 3 rotting on my bookshelf for months. Good shit- the art is expressive and the writing is phenomenal. Really should pick up the volumes I've missed since.

Really need to catch up on my weeb shit, though. Anime backlog isn't going to watch itself. Might rewatch Escaflowne, though. Loves me some Escaflowne.

also is Guts finally off the boat yet? I'm not reading the boat arc until I can kill it all over a few days and not suffer years of waiting.

Freaking out over Vic Mignogna being in a dub is ridiculous. He's a mediocre voice actor, but he's gonna be in there 95% of the time. He's apparently pretty shitty as a person, though.

It was because he refused to sign some yaoi fan art. Being religious, Vic has made it clear that he's uncomfortable with homosexuality to an extent, but doesn't have anything against people who are gay. So when Free! fans found out that he was officially cast, they went berserk.

Their outrage is nothing short of childish. The fandom took to calling him names like "Vic Meningitis" and started a petition to have him be replaced. As I've already alluded, Free! is NOT yaoi. There is arguably some homoerotic subtext, but none of the male characters have been confirmed to be gay. Nevertheless, the fandom, being as stubbornly deluded as they are, accuse Vic of being a homophobic piece of shit who has no right to be the dub voice of their beloved shark boy.

As for Vic actually being a bad person, I've done some research, and from what I can tell most of that is just rumors. There's a Tumblr blog dedicated to people submitting bad run-ins they've had with him, and all of the claims of sexual harassment (which there were quite a few of) sounded like pure-grade bullshit. He's no saint, obviously, but I've also heard and seen plenty of accounts of Vic being a total sweetheart.

tl;dr: Vic's religious and therefore isn't very find of homosexuality, so the yaoi-loving Free! fans want his blood.

Yeah, I've heard mixed stories about him being kind of a dick. He seemed alright when I saw him at a con one time - apparently he's also a major Trekkie. I'm not real fond of his voice acting, though, probably because he's overused. I do think it's kind of ironic that he keeps getting cast as major yaoibait characters.

Also, "dick lasagna" sounds super gay to me.

How did they dub this line?

I'll never understand why some anime shows have ridiculously long names.

I think it's 'cause even words that are long in English rarely contain more than three or four kanji. So they don't seem as long to a Japanese speaker. Or maybe the Japanese just really like acronyms.

I'd also add 'Sometimes I can't understand what my Husband is saying' to that list.

Technically, they did get off the boat. To do what, we haven't seen yet, but something is bound to be around the corner for Guts and company.

Because of a cheap deal I've gotten for supporting a certain Patreon, I'm getting Ushiro: Fukigen na Shinigami (read: the shit my avatar is from :coster:) translated into English. I've got chapter 1 already, and it makes it so much more enjoyable. I may even try typesetting it myself, I think it deserves more exposure and nobody's translated it yet.

I'd read it.

Also, Sunrise confirmed Episode 15 of Mobile Suit Gundam will not be on the set, due to it being "Not available".
But I need to see some of the most off-model animation in the genre in 1080p.
:c

Apparently Gainax lost the 16mm reel for episode 15 of EVA. Kind of a shame, since that was one of the more visually interesting episodes IIRC, but oh well.
