Visual novels are not games, full stop. Complaining about them not having gameplay is like complaining about movies not having gameplay.
Can you give an example? Are we talking about dating sims or David Cage?

Lost Izalith's poor reputation bleed into the second half of the game as a whole. Though it'd be remiss to say the only thing lacklustre about the 2nd half of Dark Souls (in comparison to the first) is Lost Izalith.

New londo ruins, new londo ruins, new londo ruins and extra new londo ruins with that. That dump was complicit in giving the critics the "this is the wrong kind of hard" spiel.

Gen v Pokemon fans are no more rabid as fans of any other gen. In fact I see more people bitch about rabid gen v fans than actual rabid fans. Most of the gen v stans I see on Twitter are trolls fucking around with SwSh shills.

Another unpopular opinion, but: I really disliked the P4 cast. They felt fake to me. Like a bunch of anime cliches trying to butter me up. I get they're supposed to be subversions, but they never followed through and the characters end up with arrested development as a result. The male cast members especially since they had to service the games obsession with making the MC look like the "biggest chad evar."

I like P5 and especially P3's cast because they felt like they had lives of their own that didnt revolve around the MC, even if that meant making them act like stupid assholes.
I'll add my unpopular Persona 4 opinions: I don't dislike the Investigation Team by any means, but I think they were the weakest main cast of the three most known Persona games. I'm fine with Chie, Yukiko, and Rise, but they were kind of boring. Teddie was OK in small doses, but once he became human, I started finding him irritating and creepy.

My biggest problem with Persona 4 was the amount of wacky anime moments that ultimately lead to nothing other than padding. Scenes like the school camping trip may have had a few funny moments, but they went on for too long.

Yeah, Persona games really rely on those kinds of long scenes as a "reward" for completing the combat portions of the game, but its really only a reward if you like the characters already. If you do it's a great way of immersing yourself in the world. But if you don't then those scenes do turn into a slog and just builds resentment since the games are long af. That's probably why people are so polarized regarding which cast they like/hate.

And I totally agree about Teddie. His fucking boots will haunt my nightmares till I die

Grand Theft Auto (and derivative games) are one of the worst series of games out there, not for violent or sexual content, but because the games are basically just The Sims with guns, the plots and characters are generic, and there isn't anything resembling actually challenging or deep gameplay in single or multiplayer- it's basically just pure ADHD, or the game equivalent of a Michael Bay movie like Transformers - designed for people who don't want to even play a role game, and just get boners seeing shit get blow up or running over people with giant vehicles (and awful driving mechanics).

I don't know how unpopular it actually is, but Grøh and Azwel in Soul Caliber VI are the most anime-tier characters in that series and I've played (and hated) V. Why? While V's characters can be ignored due to the 17 year time skip, Grøh and Azwel are awkwardly jammed into the canon and fucks with the stories of the earlier games. For those who don't know, the early Soul Caliber games were generally about Faustian sword MacGuffin that would have to fight its holy counterpart. Thus the general canon themes of the earlier games were about redemption and corruption. By sticking Grøh into the story, it fucks up the general world of Soul Caliber by introducing a super-secret organization that is supposed to take out anyone connected to the Faust MacGuffin. Except they suck at it considering the events of Soul Edge through IV happen. Also, Grøh is a giant emo on top of it too.

It really shows the difference in writing style between 90s anime and today's anime.

EDIT: Forgot about Azwel and why he sucks. For one, he's supposed to be like Algol in IV since he's a magic sword user, but while Algol was intimidating and thus, able to convey his mastery by design, Azwel is Iago. Not Shakespeare Iago, Fire Emblem Fates Iago. So, the story went from supernatural forces of good and evil to the events of the Aval Organization.

I'd complain that 2016 Gauntlet's endless mode is shit because you pretty quickly learn the only way to reach higher levels is to simply run away from everything and that fighting is only for when you're locked into a room you need to clear, and that your only reward is gold (that you can get using far easier ways) and going on to more floors, but I don't think anybody even remembers it.

I remember it, I vaguely remember having fun for a while but then I got Dark Souls 3 and Gauntlet was left to rot in my external hard drive. I think I preferred the original, anyway. My housemate and I frequently played it for a about a month, though, it was fun for a little time sink but not deep enough to keep attention for that long.

None of the Smash Bros. games are bad. All of them are fun in their own way, even the gimped 3DS version of 4.
The only bad thing is the fanbase, full of elitists, spergs, and pedos. Unfortunately, this is an example of a series where the awful people aren't the vocal minority...
