A "vile and dangerous" paedophile who abused four children has been jailed for 22 years.
Jessica Brennan, known as Allan Brennan at the time of the offences, preyed upon the school-aged children between 1998 and 2016.
Brennan, 54, of Bowland Close, Harrogate, was sentenced at York Crown Court on Monday.
North Yorkshire Police praised the bravery of victims, some of whom had come forward after 20 years.

Brennan was convicted of attempted rape of a child under 13, assault of a girl under 13 by penetration, five counts of sexual activity with a child, assault by penetration, two counts of sexual assault, sexual activity with a child, and five counts of indecent assault.
When questioned she denied all knowledge, police said.
As well as the custodial sentence, Brennan was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life and handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
The judge also imposed a four-year extended licence upon eventual release.
Det Con Rebecca Prentice said the lives of the victims and their families were "shattered" by the "vile and dangerous paedophile" and she hoped they could now start to rebuild them.
"[The victims'] courage has ensured that Brennan has been put behind bars where she belongs for a very long time," Ms Prentice said.

A TRANSGENDER sex offender was back in court after failing to tell authorities that they now identified as a woman.
Chloe Thompson, who has changed their name from Andrew McNab, set up a TikTok account under their new name after changing it by deed poll.
The 41-year-old was convicted of carrying out a sexual assault on a teenage girl in 2011 and was issued with a ten-year notification requirement order to alert authorities to their whereabouts and activities.
Uzma Khan, prosecuting, said as part of the court order the defendant has three days to notify police of any aliases they are using and police were called to his address after concerns were raised about their behaviour by the landlord.
She said: "Whilst the officer is reviewing the applications on their mobile phone he comes across the TikTok application which they state they had downloaded and has been using it for two weeks. The user name is Chloe Thompson and he confirms he has never confirmed this alias to the police."
Miss Khan said the defendant had breached the order on 11 occasions since it was imposed almost ten years ago.
Thompson, of Harford Street, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to one charge of breaching the conditions of his notification requirement order.
Andrew Turton, in mitigation, said he agreed with the assessment of risk that his client posed to children.
Judge Recorder Nicholas Lumley QC sentenced her to a four month custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months, issued them with a 12 month community order and imposed 20 days of rehabilitation activity requirement days.
He added: "On the face of this this isn't a serious breach of your notification requirements but against a background of doing this quite often, I can see why the prosecution were so concerned about your behaviour in this case.
"The police need to know who you are and where you are but not for much longer due to the time left on the order."

A woman has been sentenced at court after being trapped by online paedophile hunters when she arranged to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex in Sidbury.
Jessica Smith, who is a transgender woman, sent a stream of sexual messages to what she believed were two 14-year-old schoolgirls without realising that they were in fact decoys set up by a group called Justice for the Tears.
She sent pictures which she claimed to be of her private parts and asked for the girls to reciprocate and arranged for one to visit her at Smith’s home in East Devon.
She even asked one of the girls to bring along a 12-year-old friend to the rendezvous at the small village of Sidbury, near Sidmouth.
The paedophile hunters were surprised to find what they assumed to be a man rather than a woman lurking in a hedge near the designated meeting place.
It turned out to be Smith, in male persona. Police were called and arrested her. A mugshot picture taken shortly afterwards shows a person with obvious stubble.
Smith, aged 41, now of Sydney Road, Exeter, admitted three counts of attempting to incite a child to sexual activity and one of arranging to commit a child sex offence.
She was jailed for two years and ten months and put on the sex offenders register for life by Judge Peter Johnson at Exeter Crown Court.
He told her:”A psychiatric report is of the opinion that your long-standing gender dysphoria and issues of sexual identity contributed to your anxiety and depression but no evidence of severe depression or psychotic disorder.
“The facts of the case are straightforward. You thought you were talking to someone aged 14 on social media and within ten minutes you turned the conversation to sexual matters.
“You claimed to be 20 when you were in your late 30s at the time. I fail to understand why you thought this was appropriate for any reason other than your sexual gratification.”
Miss Mary McCarthy, prosecuting, said Smith made contact in the summer of 2018 with two fake profiles which had been set up online and purported to be 14-year-old girls.
The group which had set up the sting arrived to find Smith hiding in a hedge and claiming to be a man who had been sent to fetch the child. Smith was arrested when police were called.
Miss Caighli Taylor, defending, said Smith was depressed and isolated at the time because of her complex gender identity issues and a sense of loss after family bereavements.
She said: “Her use of pornography escalated and while it is no excuse, she was in a very bad place. She has since moved to Exeter and there are more positive things in her life.”
She confessed to her crimes in a letter sent from her alter ego

A paedophile used library computers to search for 'Harry Potter erotica' and 'fetish sites' which focused on children in their underwear.
Melissa Wilson, whose name was given in court listings as "Paul Wilson, also known as Melissa Wilson", managed to bypass security systems at Liverpool Central Library and Toxteth Library, later confessing to the crimes in a letter from her alter ego, Dan Thompson.
After creating library accounts the 34-year-old would attend "almost every other day" and used a Russian search engine "associated with accessing illegal files".
Liverpool Crown Court heard as well as looking up "Harry Potter erotica with a focus on Hermione Granger", Wilson searched "children porn" and "young girls modelling underwear".
In a letter from her alter ego she claimed she wanted to go back to prison because she felt 'accepted for who she is and who she wants to be'.
Nick Cockrell, prosecuting, explained Wilson's probation officer received the letter from Wilson's alter ego, Dan Thompson, detailing how she had bypassed library security systems.
Mr Cockrell said: "Merseyside Police received information Miss Wilson had been using computers at Liverpool City Libraries and Toxteth Libraries."
Mr Cockrell explained Wilson accessed the computers between July 10 and October 23 in 2019 on 86 days, "multiple times a week".
Wilson went on Chatango, a chat forum which doesn't require the user to register and on which "illegal images of children are shared".
He explained the investigating officer went on the website during his investigation and a child sex abuse image "remained visible for 10 minutes before a moderator removed it".
Wilson also used the Russian search engine Yandex which had been "associated with accessing illegal files".
Mr Cockrell said there were times when Wilson would use the library computers to search for jobs but said there seemed to be a "lot more activity centring around the chat site Chatango".
Judge David Swinnerton explained one site which was accessed was a "sort of children's underwear fetish site" on which children between the ages of three and five were pictured in underwear.
The judge said they "can't say the defendant viewed that particular image" but she did click on the link.
On June 14 Wilson had used Yandex to search "chubby school girls nude" but was prevented from viewing the results by the library system.
Mr Cockrell said on the Yandex search there was reference to a username "c**face" and 13 photographs of two young girls aged between three and five who were either in their pyjamas or topless.
On July 10 Wilson searched for "Harry Potter erotica with a focus on Hermione Granger", "Lolicon", which refers to an attraction to prepubescent girls, Mr Cockrell explained.
Wilson had also searched "15-year-old school girls", "children porn", "young girls flat chested" and "young girls modelling underwear".
Mr Cockrell explained she had also used Facebook Messenger, ChatUSA and UKChat as well as a chat room designed specifically for teens, Alo Chat.
The court heard Wilson was charged for breaching her Sexual Harm Prevention Order in February 2021, which she later admitted in court.
Her first offence was in April 2008 for indecent images of children and was given a community order which she then breached twice in the same year and was jailed again having more indecent images of children.
Wilson then consistently breached court orders in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
In August 2015 she was jailed four years with an extended four years on licence for threats to kill, possession of prohibited images and breaching notification requirements.
In total Wilson had six previous convictions for 39 offences.
Mike O'Brien, defending, said there was "no excuse for her behaviour" and said she accepted the "persistent" breaches.
He said at the time of the offences she "wasn't welcome or accepted in her local community" and she "felt a sense of hopelessness".
He explained Wilson had applied for training courses and voluntary work but would "hit a brick wall" at the interviews which Mr O'Brien said was most likely due to her previous convictions.
He said: "A letter from Dan Thompson, her alter ego, explains initially she committed these offences in order to be returned to prison."
Mr O'Brien added: "She feels safer and happier in that environment."
He said she has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria and "identifies as a female even though she was born as a male".
He said she felt accepted in prison by the guards, doesn't feel isolated and is able to get help when she needs it.
Mr O'Brien said: "Even the inmates accept her for who she is and who she wants to be."
He added Wilson, who is serving her sentence at HMP Altcourse, suffers from asperger's and multiple personality disorder.
Judge Swinnerton, sentencing, said: "You have a lengthy and growing criminal record which revolves around your interest in indecent images of children and your repeated breaches of the orders which try to prevent you from accessing such images of children."
The judge said: "Some of the search terms you were using revolved around what I would describe as fetish sites of children in their underwear."
The judge added she "quite deliberately" accessed chatrooms despite a clause in the Sexual Harm Prevention Order which specified she could not.
The judge said he also took account of the delay which was "no fault of yours" and "will impact upon the earliest time on which you can apply for parole".
Judge Swinnerton said: "I understand for various reasons life on the outside must be difficult for you.
"I understand that it would be difficult for you to get a job."
The judge added that "a lot of that is down to you" for persistently breaching court orders and that if it didn't change "you're not going to find a constructive role".
Judge Swinnerton added that she would "waste a lot of your life behind bars" if she didn't stop offending.
Wilson was jailed for 32 months, although she will continue to serve a sentence after being recalled until June 23 2022.
She must sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and was ordered to adhere to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life.

A convicted female sex offender has been given one last chance by a judge after breaching her court order for a fourth time by creating a
Tiktok profile without telling police.
Bricklayer Serena Ransom, 26, dodged prison despite breaking the terms of her sex offenders' register requirements four times.
Ransom was placed on the register and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for ten years after being jailed for giving two schoolgirls lovebites in 2015.
She has already been convicted of breaching the terms twice and has now been back in the dock for a third and fourth breach.
The first two breaches involved setting up an unregistered Facebook account and approaching a young boy in a shopping centre and 'ruffling his hair' despite being barred from approaching children without parental consent.
Prosecutor Ian Mullarkey, said that on October 14 last year Ransom created a profile on TikTok, but failed to notify the police about it.
TikTok is a video sharing app that is for users aged 13 years and over.
A month earlier, Ransom had stayed overnight in a house where children also regularly stayed and again failed to notify the police.
But she was caught after a man, who knew about her sordid past, found her TikTok profile and sent a screenshot to police.
Ransom changed her profile name and made the account private after her partner's ex-husband became concerned that one of his children had attempted to befriend the sex offender.
Prosecutor Ian Mullarkey, said that on October 14 last year Ransom created a profile on TikTok, but failed to notify the police about it. She admitted the breach at Teesside Crown Court (pictured) and was given a 12-month suspended sentence and made subject to a six-month curfew
The prosecutor added: 'She said she had the account for about four weeks before it was discovered and accepted she changed the account's name because she didn't want it to be discovered by the police.'
Ransom, of Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to both breaches at Teesside Crown court on Monday.
She was given a 12 month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and made subject to a six-month curfew.
She must also undertake 120 hours unpaid work and carry out 30 rehabilitation days.
Recorder Craig Hassall warned her she has 'got to stop breaching this sexual harm prevention order' or go to jail.
He said: 'When I came into court today I was going to lock you up. I was going to send you to custody for these offences.'
Nigel Soppitt, mitigating, said the breaches were 'reckless rather than malicious' and that Ransom had shown'no sexual interest in children' since her 2015 conviction.
A WOMAN who was arrested for distributing indecent pictures of children was caught again when she started downloaded dozens more images.

A WOMAN who was arrested for distributing indecent pictures of children was caught again when she started downloaded dozens more images.
Bolton Crown Court heard how police raided Anna McKone's house in Catherine Street West, Horwich at 6.55am on April 20 2019 after the National Crime Agency had received a tip off from the Kik social media site that someone had uploaded three indecent pictures of children.
Bob Sastry, prosecuting, told the court how the upload was traced to the Virgin Media internet account used by 46-year-old McKone at her home.
"The defendant was the only person present at the address and she was arrested on suspicion of possessing and distributing indecent images of children," said Mr Sastry.
A phone, laptop and tablet were seized but while she was on bail police were informed that the same IP address was downloading more indecent pictures in July and August 2019.
Another raid was carried out on October 28 and this time a mini tablet and laptop were taken.
When analysed the devices were found to contain a total of 175 images of children aged five to 14 years, one image in the more serious category B and five other prohibited images.
A cleaning programme to delete images was found on one of the devices and the tablet had been used to search websites using terms such as "I'm a goddam paedophile".
Mr Sastry said, in a police interview, McKone made no comment but provided a statement.
"She accepted responsibility for the indecent images, provided an explanation as to why she may have been involved in that and set out some remorse," he said.
The Honorary Recorder of Bolton, Judge Martin Walsh said that reports about McKone had described her "difficult and complex background" and that the public could best be protected by her being supervised in the community for a lengthy period.
McKone pleaded guilty to distributing indecent images and two counts of downloading indecent images.
She was sentenced to a three year community order with 50 days of rehabilitation activities and was also placed on the sex offenders' register and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for seven years.
Judge Walsh told her: "I want to make it absolutely crystal clear that those people who are involved in the production of such material can expect to receive very significant custodial sentences.
"You are not to be sentenced for production of those images but nevertheless those who download images of this sort feed the interests of those who produce such foul imagery."
