The design makes me really nostalgic for NiGHTS. Shame they never could make another one of those and have it be halfway decent (that Wii sequel was about the same quality as contemporary Sonic games, flaming hot trash). That feeling when you're flying at full speed and racking up a huge combo is awesome.

How the mighty have fallen.

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams isn’t so bad if you use a GameCube controller.

Hee hee Penis Wonderworld

Eh. Ignoring the usual Sonic writing, NiGHTS had the momentum of a flying trash bag and stopped dead as soon as you let go of dash. Even the rereleases on steam and 360 somehow fucked this up from the Saturn original but NiGHTS had incredible momentum that made it feel like you were actually gliding through the air. The sense of speed was crazy and you felt like a total chad swoosing into the goal with 1 second left. JoD had that weird Chao Garden thing too that was so blatantly unfinished but they just left it in, classic Sonic Team. The rush switch from the 360 to Wii probably gutted that game but good.

The music was generally very good though, except for the "NiGHTS and Reala" remix which sounds like that "At Butt's Gate" DOOM fart remix. D'Force Master sounds incredible.

I’ll give you the writing, the cutscenes give me the same vibe as the ones from Sonic ‘06.

Played the demo when it first came out and didn't like it. Didn't out in enough time to give a detailed answer about why, something about it didn't click with me and I had no interest in checking it out further.

I did check out the final boss fight on Youtube for the literal seizure inducing flashing. They were bad enough to give me a bit of a headache.

Found a video of what is probably the worst costume in the game "Box Fox." It randomly turns you into a box "when it feels like it."
You can't move at all as the box and just slide in whatever direction you were going. So this happens.

From the description of people here, this video seems to summarize the game really well.

Can we all just admit Yuji Naka is a fraud? I'm saying this as someone who unironically enjoys Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 still.

Who in their right mind decided that what the game needed was the Tanuki powerup from Mario but shittier?

I'm boycotting all Yuji Naka games until Sonic R, the greatest and most underrated Sonic game of all time, finally gets its long-deserved sequel.

Oh man, this lolcow of a game got a thread. I already saw some terrible stage design watching videos, so I went to play it and it was delightfully worse. Naka should've tried to make lightning strike twice and go for a new NiGHTS, since he's not creatively bankrupt, just creatively incompetent.

To be fair, Naka got the idea for Sonic by speed running 1-1 in SMB1.

never played it, looked interesting. Is it really that bad?
It's the Modern Day Bubsy 3D.

Not to say it's a death knell for him because the Bubsy 3D Devs later went on to make Days Gone

And Bubsy Himself has an actual good game out since the developers of Bit Trip made it.

The first Bubsy game isn't bad. Mediocre yes, bad no. I am willing to say it is even a fun game. (Okay that with rose tinted glasses, but still).

How is he a fraud? Just because he’s a programmer/director who found their talent outpaced by technology and evolving gaming trends doesn’t make him a fraud. There was a window in which his skill set made some entertaining and dynamic games.
