I still fucking hate Ichigo. For me, besides the sudden aliens the ending for Hiro and 02 was insultingly poor and went against a lot of the relationship struggles they'd had and overcome over the series. A large part of the series was them overcoming the problems inherent in their relationship with her being a monster and him a human (even if by the end he isn't truly) and them deciding that their differences didn't matter even if everyone else objected. After so much struggle they decided they'd rewrite their destinies so they could remain together and that was their major motivation for their actions. Hiro literally fucked off of earth because he could sense 02 even while all his friends pleaded him to stay, by that point in the story they could have just scrapped everyone on earth. It didn't help that by the end I really only cared for Hiro, 02, and Goro among the main cast yet they wasted a bunch of time on everyone else besides the main two, they really failed at developing the cast outside Hiro/02. A lot of the fan desires near the end was for Hiro and 02 to save the day then fuck off into space, get married, and make a bunch of dino babies far from the judgement of others. Hell, most people were hoping that the series would end with a revolution against their society lead by Hiro and 02 since it seemed to be trying to hint at it and not fucking aliens.
The whole reincarnation ending is shit because they aren't the same person, sure it might be the same souls, but they aren't the same persons built through their own lived experience. It's also bullshit because they're both human, which makes all the drama previously mentioned mean nothing if the writer was just going to make the problem go away in the end by making them both human. The whole ending felt like a major cop out. I saved a rant from right after the last episode aired off /a/ that basically sums up the problems I had (for some reason images aren't working for me so I'll see if sticking it as an attachment works, just don't click if you don't want spoilers).
Even if this show was a collab I still blame Trigger for the series squandering its potential more over A1. Darling shitting the bed and learning about the literal 1:1 ripoff of the Kamen Rider 000's ending in KLK has made me stop getting excited for anything new Trigger puts out.
I disagree on Hiro and 02s relationship I dont think that him becoming more like her really contradicts what happened before, especially because making a sacrifices and being changed by your relationship with another person is just part of life, I think it is a decent representation of him growing up as an individual because of that, also in the show endings and new beginings are constantly happening and they all to characters changing and growing, relationships ending, their home getting destroyed, changing parters, etc, I think that is the reason they show the stuff from earth, because it is directly linked not only with the sacrifices everyone makes, but it only happens because of the ones 02 and Hiro make, them reincarnating is just another scenario for that I thinkFor me, besides the sudden aliens the ending for Hiro and 02 was insultingly poor and went against a lot of the relationship struggles they'd had and overcome over the series. I really hope we get back to 1983 soon. They’ve long made their point about Satoko’s motives. The real mystery is how she is looping, not MUH JAP HIGH SCHOOL SUCKS YO.Not gonna bother spoilering the latest Higurashi Gou episode because I need to make absolutely sure Satoko was always such a vindictive, jealous. bratty hypocrite that this episode showing her reaching her breaking point at St. Lucia's Academy is true to character.
She didn't turn down Rika's offer for the two of them to go to St. Lucia's Academy, and studied alongside her so they could get in together. Rika said she doesn't like studying, but she was willing to do it for her dream, and Satoko clearly agreed. But suddenly she makes it in and thinks she doesn't have to study as hard anymore to keep her grades up? And then she gets mad at Rika for having a social life when she was invited by Rika to join them for tea but turned it down because it's not something she's interested in? Then she turns down Rika's offer to help her in her studies and blames her for having a social life without her?
And by-the-by, we don't know what Satoko has been doing after classes. We don't know what her dorm life is like with her roommate, or if she's ever attempted to socialize with the other girls at lunch or to join a club. We get one off-hand comment that her laugh is vulgar, but no other indication the other students are avoiding her or deflecting her efforts to make new friends.
If she's supposed to parallel Shion's experience at the school (which she apparently went back to to graduate btw), I'm not seeing it.

For the sake of space and spoilers I'll just use a spoiler tag:I disagree on Hiro and 02s relationship I dont think that him becoming more like her really contradicts what happened before, especially because making a sacrifices and being changed by your relationship with another person is just part of life, I think it is a decent representation of him growing up as an individual because of that, also in the show endings and new beginings are constantly happening and they all to characters changing and growing, relationships ending, their home getting destroyed, changing parters, etc, I think that is the reason they show the stuff from earth, because it is directly linked not only with the sacrifices everyone makes, but it only happens because of the ones 02 and Hiro make, them reincarnating is just another scenario for that I think
As I said in my other comment, the mayor problem with the show is in the last 5 or 6 episodes, they lack a lot of build up, and it feels like they cut a lot of character stuff for the team to rush the last arc, even then I dont dislike the Aliens because I think they are a good enemy that is a direct fold to the themes of individualism, good idea but a terrible execution.
I agree with a lot of what you said, I think I kind of see the ending like the ending of dragon ball gt, on ts own it is a logical conclusion to what the show was going for, at least imo, but the way it lead to it wasnt well done, tho I would have liked for it to only be the things that happened after the fight that where the final episodeFor the sake of space and spoilers I'll just use a spoiler tag:
I'm just going to agree to disagree over the relationship because to me it felt like they had built up an issue that they just hand waved away with a cop out ending. Hiro slowly turning monster in the pursuit of his relationship felt like a worthy consequence of sticking with the relationship, willing to give up some of his humanity for the sake of the one he loved. Overall, it felt like a nice commentary about how a healthy relationship is about compromising and meeting in the middle. 02 became more human while also keeping her monstrous side rather than giving it up (as she tried to do by getting rid of her horns) while Hiro became more monstrous while keeping his human side. By the end, they were in a relationship on equal terms rather than one side dominating the other, through reincarnation it felt like the whole idea of compromising in a relationship was lost since they didn't need to do so anymore with both being human.
Besides the problems with the relationship, the writing felt like it had two conflicting head writers with both wanting to go into different directions. The first half of the series seemed to be solidly building to the idea of Hiro and the gang rebelling against their oppressive society using the themes present in the series with sexual liberation, finding yourself, growing up, and making your own way in life even if society rejects it. It was especially felt during the episode where one of the members ends up wandering off and showing how fucked up their adult society is that there was something the writers wanted to explore there (which was then thrown to the wayside for lol aliens are the real baddies). Pursuing a revolution ending would have also given the side cast their much needed character development in how they'd react to the idea and the group conflict it would cause. Again, it felt like they were trying to build up that idea by introducing parts of the characters that went against what the society considered the norm. You had the obvious like the baby, but you also had stuff like Ikuno being a lesbian in conflict with those feelings. The youngest two could have also gotten something through the conflict be it the tragic death of one of them making the other realise how important the other was or just having the two do anything to make them more fleshed out. Conflict could also be created by Ichigo siding with society given how much importance she places on it, along with her own feelings of personal jealously against 02 who symbolises the deviation of the norm. Have her side with alpha (or whatever his name was) and follow the idea that everything was perfect until 02 showed up, that it was still possible to return to how things once were (which you could bring parallels to the whole idea of puberty to go along with the in your face sexual metaphors). Ichigo is trapped in the idealised past of childhood where everyone got along, that starts change once one begins maturing into adulthood, her realising this and letting go of such ideas near a season final would (in my mind) give her a proper character redemption.
It felt like the series was trying to be a commentary about how oppressive and conformist Japanese society is, especially against the budding youth that is about to enter into the adult world that wanted to move away from the old ways. If they had gone through with the whole rebelling against society it could have been a very pointed commentary, yet it side stepped it all by making aliens the big bad and not their society. A series that seemed to play heavy in its themes just kind of went whatever by the end and I found it heavily weakened or muddled by the end on what it was trying to say, which felt rather jarring with how in your face it was during the first half.
They even had a tease they'd go with that direction when Hiro was mentioning how maybe society might be wrong in a pretty ominous/foreshadowy way. With the introduction of the Blue Princess they could have done some major reveals and set up another extreme faction, one driven by pure passion/primal nature to counter the overly rigid human society. Have conflict surrounding the realisation and actually give the Blue Princess some decent screen time rather than the pitiful amount the series gave her. Use the existence of the two extreme sides for more internal character conflict and give them the needed push towards wanting to rebel, realising that compromising in the middle would give the best results (which would reflect in the development of Hiro and 02's relationship) rather than conforming to either side.
Yet, come the introduction of the aliens it felt like everything they'd tried to build up was thrown to the side and didn't really matter in the end. Instead, all the side characters just kind of were there and their internal conflicts were either sloppily resolved or forgotten about. It made a lot of things feel like they didn't matter in the end which makes the series extra frustrating because of all its wasted potential. Felt like it was a literal case of "Fuck we need to finish this, hit the ancient aliens button!" which threw aside everything to get a quick ending.
All of this is based on what I remember watching back when it aired, so it might be somewhat fuzzy. I'm not subjecting myself to the series again to remember the finer details.
God forbid that Americans want to learn how the animation process works in Japan like people coming here to learn in our universities. Give it up there's no real threat to anime except for the doomers that say so with no actual proof.https://youtube.com/watch?v=xxu0jA4LNbg

Doesn't working as an Animator in Japan give you really low pay, even when working overtime? Not to mention the frequent crunches that are liable to happen?https://youtube.com/watch?v=xxu0jA4LNbg

How is Netflix sending Americans to Japan to learn anime going to take away the Japanese market from local animation studios and all the other infrastructure that cranks out 8 million seasons of different animes every year along with OVAs, movies, internet shorts, and all the rest? Do these people forget that the Japanese are really really good at squeezing foreigners out of their domestic market when they want to?God forbid that Americans want to learn how the animation process works in Japan like people coming here to learn in our universities. If so, then these supposed leftists and SJW's won't last a month working there at most, before throwing a tantrum, deciding to head back home and whine online (In any order). Besides, in this sort of instance, if we see some genuine anime fans take this opportunity up, then it shouldn't be too much of a problem. The cream rising to the top as it were. Plus, there is the possibility that any woke stuff that does go out won't do too great in Japan, very little tolerance for bad ratings and sales.
