I reported it, gave them a link to the archived stuff. Hopefully something will come out of it.

Gotcha, little stealer:
Original Tumblr post (might get deleted because I shared their address on Tumblr, and no, I don't give a damn about it): https://archive.is/DPuMF
My Tumblr post exposing them: https://archive.is/RPiNF
EXIF: https://archive.is/7LW2q
If anyone wants to report them to the police, be my guest.

I don't think being this open is the best way to handle it. Then the shoplifters will actually start getting rid of EXIF data if they can figure out how and we'll have nothing to use to expose them. This should be a private affair.

I am trying to report them online, but most of the time I am getting complete forms to fill in, and I have to be the business owner. No anonymous reports can be filed. What do I do then? Just post it here?

We're not the only game in town. /pt/ have been hitting these Tumblrinas for a while now, with pretty much the same methods.

There's a hard core of intelligent, dedicated shoplifters on Tumblr. They know how to strip EXIF and other easy location tells. They do their homework on which stores to steal from, sometimes going as far as interviewing for jobs there to get a better picture of the security setup and policies.

Realistically, we're not going to touch these guys. We'll pick off the low-hanging fruit: the inexperienced, the arrogant, the stupid. There's a dumb shoplifter born every minute.

Maybe to protect our ongoing investigations, though, we could use something like a forum group. It'd keep prying visitors away. It's a call for @Null or @KatsuKitty though.

You make a very good point. However, if I may offer a rebuttal?
Two possibilities exist:
1. This is never discovered and we finally see these little shitbags get some long overdue discipline.
2. This is discovered, and the shoplifting part of Tumblr will immediately lose it's fucking shit. We're denying them the ability to feel safe when they publicly brag about their wrongdoing, and demanding that they face the consequences of their actions. How well do you suppose they'll handle that? My guess is about as well as tumblrinas handle everything else in life.
I see endless fields of crytyping about being grounded and having to pay stores back for the shit they stole. And it will be beautiful.

Yeah please don't post anything like "HURR DURR GOT UR EXIF" to Tumblr, because the next thing you know they've googled "how to delete exif" and there are fifty billion "PSA"s on it.

I haven't mentioned the word EXIF. I won't do it either, because I was already aware that could blow our asses.
Anyways, I have a new idea. What if we Skype them, given that we can find their numbers? Try and hear 'em out? Or is this too troll plan-ish?

It's probably against the rules, but I'm in if they'll let us get away with it.

sorry if this one has been posted, I'm a little slow with keeping up with the thread and searching tumblr.

exif information (got location): https://archive.is/423Rn
archived post with their haul: https://archive.is/Po8GY
they have a lot of posts where I couldn't get any info, but one of their old posts still had the exif info that i guess they forgot to remove.

again, if someone could help and report this person, I would be thankful!

Calling all Kiwi nerds. Let's scale this up.

Using the Tumblr API it should be trivial to get photos from posts which have particular tags. This would let us harvest all the pics tagged with common Tumblr lifting community tags. This gives us our search list.

Then, we'd need a metadata extractor. Like this one.

This would let us process our search list and identify which pictures have location or serial number information.

As the icing on the cake we could use Google Maps or Openstreetmap to plot the geo-tagged pictures. Kind of like this guy's tool. We could probably automate archiving all the photos with usable data. Or we could just have an output list of URLs showing only usable photos, and do the legwork manually.

Full disclosure: I'm not good enough to code this, but I think that a service which pulls in photos and determines which ones have usable info is a) very possible to make because all the components are out there and b) something which this website would get a lot of mileage out of.
