I can remember
@*Asterisk* made a similar thread not all that long ago.
I did, but it was from the other side, and deteriorated into shitposting almost immediately. Apparently it happens every time a similar thread comes up on this site.
Think for a second what that says about us: We're less capable of having a civilized discussion about dickskin than we are of discussing racism, misogyny, SJWs, politics, criminals, and criminal punishment.
That is very sad.
I can see why it could be done for medical reasons but it's a silly procedure of a more barbaric time period of human history. I don't believe it should be done to children without their consent when they don't even know why it happens.
Because nobody who's been circumcised has ever masturbated before.
I don't know if this ever occurred to you, but those who advocated circumcision as a way to prevent masturbation back in the 19th century didn't actually know what would prevent masturbation. Guys like
Sylvester Graham and
John Harvey Kellogg also advocated teeth brushing, bathing, vegetarianism, and abstention from alcohol and tobacco as ways to prevent masturbation. Seeing as how most of the female nude models and porn stars in the country are generally the first three of those things, we can safely say that for all the benefits of hygiene and a healthy diet, it does nothing to decrease sexual desire.
Things are done to kids all the time without their consent for things they'll probably make it through. The chickenpox vaccine, for instance. We don't ask the kid if they've been following Jim Carrey's Twitter feed before we do that.
If you don't wanna circumcise your kid,
that's fine. But you shouldn't just dismiss the benefits of
the avoidance of penile cancer, UTIs, and reduced STD risks and go into a paranoid fit that it causes reduced sexual stimulation
when there's no evidence it does.
St. Paul said circumcision is unnecessary.
Much as I appreciate Jesus and St. Paul's reprimand to those who obsess over ritual as a sign of devotion,* a large part of this was motivated by Roman hatred of the Semetic peoples such as the Ishmaelites and the Jews. There was a very brutal war against the Jews by the Romans around this time which led to the deaths of around a million people, so anything seen as too outwardly Jewish was hit down on hard.
*Why else do you think we can eat pork and lobster?
