Bruh he was just pointing out that Sony is still putting weeb games on the thing and that Sony bought CR so they still intend to cater to that demo regardless of Cali's fuck ups.
let's ignore for a moment that that I never said sony is gonna stop selling weeb games (first it's one hell of a smoothbrain take with over 100 million sold ps4's, second of all companies won't cancel games that are already in production), it's also misses the point by a fucking mile. with that install base
of course nip companies are gonna keep selling on playstation, but to what effect? unless you're squeenix who can tell sony to fuck off it or they take final fantasy to ms/nintendo, anyone else got two options now, either adhere to sony's "global content policy" or keep your artistic integrity - and integrity doesn't pay the bills. which means content will be neutered one way or another, and pretty much always affects other versions down the line (and it's not like those fucktards that still employ NISA ever cared about it to begin with). no company is gonna produce 2 versions of the same assets, if sony's contract even allows that. sure, you can still release games on other platforms, but even that comes with it's own issues (see DQ11), and more importantly why would I wanna buy a playstation then?
another thing shills often overlook, especially when they talk about MUH SALES (and also includes to a certain amount corporate beancounters): the ps3/ps4 were japanese consoles (to an extend). there was plenty of incentive of nip devs to sell there, if not for their home market alone, but that also meant it was a low hurdle to sell it in other markets, worst case you had to import it yourself - once that stops because everyone has to jump through hurdles decreed by sony america, it affects the amount and type of games, meaning they are simply no longer available on your platform. people like weebshit for being weebshit, not TLOU2 with an "anime aesthetic".
this also ignores why some people picked up a playstation at all. in the past you had nip games, even directly funded by sony, which might not have been commercially successful, but sold you the platform as a whole (the term loss leader exists for a reason), and that's why shit like japan studios getting downsized and losing talent is worrisome. if I play cod and gravity rush, there is zero point in getting into the playstation ecosystem if the latter isn't happening anymore and the former is a multiplat. sure, the beancounters might come to the conclusion they gonna make more money focusing on big western AAA titles, and they might even be right (while ignoring everyone who's gonna stop buying playstation), however if I wanted a console from a company that only cares about MUH AAA MUH MULTIPLATS, I can buy an xbox right now and get the gamepass on top and don't have to worry anymore how retarded sony will get in the future.
Sony bought CR so they still intend to cater to that demo regardless of Cali's fuck ups.
as an example why you need to take certain hot takes with a grain of salt, as
@BananaSplit pointed out:
Aniplex Inc. (株式会社アニプレックス, Kabushiki-gaisha Anipurekkusu) is a Japanese anime and music production company owned by Sony Music Entertainment Japan.
On 24 September 2019, Aniplex and Sony Pictures Television announced that they were consolidating their international anime streaming services under a new joint venture comprising Funimation, Madman Anime Group and Wakanim. The consolidation reorganized AnimeLab as a direct subsidiary of Funimation.
Funimation was acquired by Navarre Corporation on May 11, 2005; in April 2011, Navarre sold Funimation to a group of investors that included Fukunaga for $24 million. The Japanese conglomerate Sony is currently its majority owner, owning 95% of the company through a joint venture between Sony Music Entertainment Japan and Sony Pictures Entertainment, with Fukunaga owning the remaining 5%.
now, who exactly is sony pictures?
Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. (commonly known as Sony Pictures or SPE, and formerly known as Columbia Pictures Entertainment Inc.) is an American entertainment company that produces, acquires, and distributes filmed entertainment (theatrical motion pictures, television programs, and recorded videos) through multiple platforms. Through an intermediate holding company called Sony Film Holding Inc., it is operated as a subsidiary of Sony Entertainment Inc., which is itself a subsidiary of the Japanese multinational technology and media conglomerate Sony Corporation.
ok, right, this leads to
Sony Entertainment, Inc. is an American entertainment company established in 2012. It focuses on most of Sony's motion picture, television and music businesses. It is a subsidiary of the Japanese Sony Corporation, managed by Sony's American subsidiary, Sony Corporation of America.
this is where it apparently gets complicated, because movies, television and streaming are so interactive.
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), formerly known as Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), is a multinational video game and digital entertainment company wholly owned by Japanese conglomerate Sony Corporation. The SIE Group is made up of two legal corporate entities: Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (SIE LLC) based in San Mateo, California, United States, and Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. (SIE Inc.), based in Minato, Tokyo, Japan.[1] Tokyo-based SIE Inc. was originally founded as Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI or SCE) in November 1993 to handle Sony's venture into video game development for the PlayStation systems.[1] SIE LLC was established in San Mateo in April 2016,[1] and is managed through Sony's American hub, Sony Corporation of America.
for now we don't know where crunchyroll will end up, but given sony's corporate structure and how they dealt with it in the past, we can take a pretty good guess. so let me ask you this: what the everliving fuck has crunchyroll to do with playstation? might as well take sony life selling insurance to some playstation devs as proof that "sony" (whoever people mean with that) "totally still likes weebshit you guys!!1"
and it's not like funimation is clean either, as we've seen with weeb wars and the whole interspecies reviewers debacle.
let alone that this has fuck all to do with anime, it's a simply logical business transition you see every day fucking everywhere, sony consolidates operations for a certain market while knocking out a competitor and getting access to their assets for cheap, before someone else picks it up.
Right now the policy is a boogeyman but if Vanillaware can release a game with T&A and have it get through unscathed then there's really nothing to be concerned about.
oh fuck off. drawn lines on screen get the lightbeam treatment, while we got a face full of tranny sex mo-capped and rendered in 4k just this year. no one gives a shit about sales and demographics when the content itself is regulated differently.
and you can shove your vanillaware example just the same, it's an already released ps3 game with a dedicated fanbase, any cuts or lightbeams would cause a shitstorm sony likes to avoid for PR reasons alone. the content policy applies to every future game in development, that's why any mandated change by
retarded californians is never made public unless someone spills the beans, and no one likes getting sued for breach of contract.
