I am not sure you can really claim that long term. Is..Star Wars better off? Star Trek? Doctor Who? The Last of Us?

Like sure these Locusts flipped the properties and made a bit of bank..but they didn't repair anything.

That's the point. The locusts, as you put it, don't care about the people. They care about getting money out of the property. It's about independent art getting snapped up by big companies who extract every ounce of profit they can out of it. They don't care about the artist or the people who enjoyed the art.

Everyone is in for a rude awakening because they're pushing shit on to the PS5, the same shit is happening with Disgaea. It's not getting a PS4 version but it's going to probably get a PS5 version with the DLC at a later date and under a different subtitle.

They're being very poignant about doing this because they want people to buy PS5 games since the PS5 is backwards compatible with the PS4 and the games run 10 bucks more.

There's a definite cut off date because NISA has Legend of Heroes slated for November and they've now rumored to have pushed Trails of Azure and Trails of The Blue to PS5.

Bandai Namco has also pushed Tales of Arise back so it can be on the PS5 much like how Zestiria was.

Looking at the bigger picture I can Microsoft capitalizing where SONY fails because they want to kiss the ass of SJW. Sure the media might blow it up by making it seem you're a hero for, say, supporting LGBT causes, but it's not going to translate to money.

That makes sense. We've seen with every console generation from the PS2. The winner of the previous console generation gets cocky and thinks they can censor things and treat third parties badly. Meanwhile, the losing console suddenly has a commitment to free speech and bends over backwards to make third parties happy.

It makes sense but on the other hand there's also a lot of pressure from the progressive activists at Microsoft over the Xbox division and its studios (see how they care more about making sure that every LGBT flag is represented instead of making a good game). That said, Phil Spencer has never hidden that he wants more japanese studios to release their games on Xbox/PC.

probably to get a foothold into that market, not necessarily to for their games or "free speech" etc. they also seem to finally figure out that people want a platform to just play games so you get all kinds of stuff, while sony is going full retard with their focus on AAA western blockbuster titles. current year sony would never greenlight something like gravity rush.

although it could be interesting with microsoft's new "hands off" approach where studios can be retarded as fuck (see 343), could bring some interesting nip games into existence that might not be commercial hits but have a strong name (and in turn promote xbox).

You're also wrong about sony not focusing on japanese games. If they didn't want to, then why would they be shelling out limited exclusivity deals to the tune of millions of dollars? Legend of heroes and Ys are primarily being funded through those means. Hell Monster Hunter World's promotional success and development was funded by playstation.

Microsoft tried the same shit back on OG Xbox and the 360. You wanna know what came of it? Some shmups and Vanilla Tales of vesperia. That was fucking it, I bought every single goddamn last one including Gun Valkyrie you're looking at less than a dozen games.

And gravity rush's main problem was they sunk a ton of money into 2 and nobody bought it. Meanwhile they sunk a comparable amount into God of War 2018 and that was one of their first big hits for the PS4. That was effectively a turning point for them to focus in on the Adventure genre. Aftewrwards came spiderman which they later bought insomniac specifically for.
