If you have to heavily limit yourself to just slice of life shit with some branching plot but no real adventure, sense of urgency, or just really anything that makes a slice of life good, you need to over compensate with a lot of poorly written drama.

A lot of Lily's issues in the comic could really have not existed if she didn't put stupid headcannons into it. If she didn't have the Gardevoirs naturally live to only be 15 but can live longer if they fuck humans it would have erased the whole mating bond issue, if Lily didn't make Gardevoirs whole species into this uber powered super rare pokemon where apparently basic adoption is impossible to do so with one she wouldn't have the issue of Bonnie and could have said she knew Bill or some dumb shit and he offered to help make a kid but accidently used Gardevoir DNA over like Maikla's. Lily is her own worse enemy when it comes to writing cause she tries to limit herself by adding contrivances to make her renditions of slice of life interesting.

Anyone could make a more interesting story about a lesbian trainer with her companion Gardevoir living their usual life that builds up to learning more about the trainer's past and the taboo feelings their Gardevoir is harboring for them that affects said trainer and her own human relationships. You could even have the Gardevoir do fucked up shit like let's say make the ex girlfriend become more aggressive and abusive until the trainer broke it off before they realize how much of a shitty thing they just did by ruining their trainer's happiness by that and having this dark secret of child rape. It's more forgiveable than the mind rape but Lily makes it worse by now confirming that Marah and Cala out live G. Which means Marah probably mates/mated/rapes/raped Maikla and Cala does the same to the young child she was given to. That or G kills herself or something.

Lily is and will probably always be her own worse enemy. For all her bitching about SU and She-Ra they at least had a lesbian romance that didn't involve one of the characters being in a weird societal beastial three way with a creature that raped them mentally to live longer.

If the mating bond isnt driven by romantic love but a love a trainer has for their pokemon, why would this effect a romantic love a pokemon may have? I think we should also bring up the question of how exactly do gardevoirs age in the first place. If i were writing the story i wouldve made the 15-20 year life span start upon evolving into a gardevoir (granted if i was writing a pokemon story i wouldnt factor perma-death into it at all) meaning that G would live naturally until lily is about the age of 30 and then she would have to come up with a solution to the mating bond/short life problem. Only im not writing this so i think Gs been technically aging since she was a ralts?

Typically evolution in pokemon has nothing to do with age and rather with leveling up, and what i mean by that is you could technically have a 15 year old ralts. But according to lily's weird fanfic poke-reality ralts are children, so does that mean they only live for 5 years before they die or do they just automatically evolve into a kirlia even if they dont meet the requirements? If gardevoirs are technically adults why did G evolve into a gardevoir when lily was still in her 'kirlia stage' of life? Why can gardevoirs only live to be 15-20? why do they have to die at such a young age when most pokemon canonically live double that life. I would be more understanding if G was like a glameow or something because cats only live 15-20 years irl but gardevoirs are human equivalents.

So either she's getting back at pretty much everybody who likes these stories by making up conviluded but interesting law tid bits and deliboratly not explaining them, or secretly she likes lore but doesnt understnand what makes lore good in fiction (actually explaining most of it if not all?). Or she's just an incompitent writer and this is the answer im going with because it's lily orchard, not the most smartest person in the room.

Lilys insistence on lore contradicts her own interests. WoW would just be a quest game without the lore. Starwars would just be people fighting with swords in space without the lore. Even the most basic slice of life shows like MLP have lore. Its really funny how much she shits on Steven Universe for using lore when all the series she loves have way more complex worlds and characters packed full of lore.

Im just going to list off real quick all the lore details because i'll feel better if i do.
Steven Universe: A boy whos mother formed into him to escape her problems, her problems just happen to be a gem empire. His aunts and grandmother then continue to chase him down and try to kill his friends because of grief and confusion.

WoW- You are the champion of azeroth who has defeated multiple old gods, titans, possessed kings, literal legions of demons and undead, etc. Oh whats an old god? well its something that wants to consume the planet of azeroth and kill and or enslave its entire population. Oh whats a titan? theyre kind of like gods i guess but not really. Oh also theres 2 factions on azeroth called the horde and the alliance and each of the factions consist of the races that inhabit azeroth which each have their own unique culture and lore. I could make this a whole 1,000 words on one character on azeroth alone i physically cannot type out all the lore that you need to know for azeroth to really make a smidgen of sense.

Starwars- Two factions think they know whats best for the universe and it spans 9 fucking movies going over just how much lore and shit there is in said universe.

MLP- theres 3 races of horses lead by a secret 4th race of pony that you can only unlock after you unlock secret magic which is something called friendship and all the horses live in a place called equestria. In equestria theres a bunch of different cities that all have unique cultures and history specific to those places in equestria. There are also other races and lands outside of equestria that contain things that wish to harness the horse magic as well as peaceful and friendly races that are allies to the horses. etc. etc.

Out of all of those examples steven universe was the easiest to explain. When lily says she hates lore shes lying because she only hates it when she wants to shit on the latest popular thing.

Pokemon, Sonic the Hedgehog (holding on by a thread tho) Super mario all had cartoons that people still remember or have had new series doneince that people remember fondly.

Non video games, MLP FIM had been Big for a year andtechnically gen 4 is still in busness with the comics, upcoming movies and its had some shorts and Equestria girl content andwas the foundation pretty much of most modern day animation. technically it was remembered a decade later as it was ongoing for a decade.

SU was also a groundbreaking show not only for lgbt people but just for the animation, story, and other rep like autistic rep and disability rep and so on.


Gravity falls will be remembered because... its fucking gravity falls.

Hell even animations she now hates like tangled, frozen (ohh shell find something to hate about it i bet just you watch) are still remembered and were some of the best animations of the time. hell tangle's hair physics is also what got it known and frozen's songs and snow physics also helped pother studios out too on 'this is what you should do!'

Even if Lily was correct and the Diamonds were space nazis (they're not) people fucking LOVE Freeza from DB and he's an actual example of someone who openly commits genocide. This moralfag shit is paper thin.

Lily wanted to have this weird dynamic in the background because she loves her melodrama but instead of thinking of a good way to resolve it, she just arbitrarily decided that Gardevoir drop dead at the age of 15 but they can sync up their lifespans to a human trainer and live much longer, somehow.

Also, somehow, forming a mating bond with another Gardevoir would cause them to live longer even though now Lily's saying they just 'sync up the lifespans' so how would having two creatures with the same lifespan cause them to live longer? Or maybe it doesn't and it just works on humans and good luck figuring out how G knew about that loophole when she's lived separated from her kind her entire life and Lily keeps saying that nobody has done any research into how these bonds work.

Every regular poster in this thread came up with a better way to execute this story, whether it be having interesting consequences (like the bond actually leeching away Lily's life in order to sustain Gardevoir) or a better origin (using Destiny Bond in a gamble to keep their lives bound together, which gives G the extended lifespan but means that if either of them die they both die, which would actually be a legitimate reason for G to orchestrate her own removal from League matches so as not to risk harming Lily with the consequences of battle). Instead, Lily thought up a mating bond, called it a 'mating bond', then tried to backtrack everything about it to make it more palatable to people who rightly recognized it's super fucked up.

Even with all my problems with the Diamonds (and that’s saying a lot), the Space Nazi label always confused me since they were fairly typical intergalactic tyrants that pop up nearly everywhere in science fiction. Darth Vader and Frieza have been peddled to young kids in merchandise for decades and no one has been moralfagging about that.
Then again, SU did attract a crowd different from SW or DBZ...

I mean. I seem to recall actually having fun the few times I've watched soap opera's because more than a single plot line usually is happening and most plot lines don't seem to constantly circle back to the same one topic every 5 pages.
 
I just finished reading the two first books of Stockholm, and she treats pedophilia and domestic abuse like some kind of addiction, and there's some weird fetishy intersex thing going on, it's honestly really disgusting, and she wrote this back in 2015? I hope people in her community see how creepy she is. Even in her present works it's noticeable.

You saw this with the Uncle Andy episode; people were outraged that a conservative and somewhat politically incorrect character was treated as an actual character rather than as a strawman to be beat down.
As time went on, you start to notice people liked the idea of Steven Universe more than they liked the actual show.

The team obviously had a ton of fun writing his absolutely golden one liners, and he was voiced by Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force so his comedic timing was on point.

The episode doesn’t even vilify him for being more conservative/traditional. He’s written very likable and sympathetic. It’s clear he’s a good dude who’s just a little abrasive and eccentric. The lesson the show has for him to learn is letting go of the past and accepting change. Which is a theme throughout the show.

But you know he wasn’t told to accept change by being round house kicked and shunned by society forever so how could you even call that progressive!?

Honestly, Steven Universe had a lot of problems, but they were never so bad that it completely dragged the show into the dirt (unlike The Shera reboot), and when all is said an done, it was a decent enough show in its own right. Maybe not one of the greatest, but it'll definitely be remembered as "That gay rock show that was stupid sometimes but overall alright".

I think the big reason why these Tumblr/ Twitter woke types hate the show is that they forget that it was, you know, made for kids. What kind of children show is going to spread the message "sometimes you have to take justice into your own hands and kill someone because you're fairly certain they're not a nice person"? I mean, there are adult cartoon out there that have killing and darker themes, but those cartoons also are more likely to challenge their preconceived view points and might take them out of their comfort zone, so they'll either end up being ignored by them or lambasted on Twitter in an argument no longer then two sentences.

That's probably because 99.9% of all people know nothing about the Nazis, aside from the fact that they were racist, tyrannical Bad Guys.
So they just call everyone who's vaguely racist or tyrannical a Nazi, regardless of whether they actually endorse any of the tenets of National Socialism.
A logic by which the vast majority of all people who ever lived were Nazis, seeing as how racism, tyranny and the mass murder of undesirables were pretty ubiquitous throughout human history
Which is probably another point: a complete lack of knowledge about history that would show that the Nazis were far from unique in committing genocide, or practicing eugenics, ect.

Out of curiosity, what did the She-Ra reboot do that completely dragged it into the dirt?
I lost track of all the controversies around that show at this point.

The closest I can think of are several cartoons where a villain pretends to be redeemed for the sake of their own hidden agenda. I'll bet Lily subscribes to the Cyberchase philosophy of "Once a bad guy, always a bad guy." In scenarios like that, however, the hero can't do a damn thing to stop the villain without looking like a total knob, so they have to investigate and prove the villain is up to no good before they take serious action.

What frustrates some people about the Steven Universe finale isn't the "forgive Nazis" past, but the "blindly trust that Nazis will never be Nazis again" part. Steven letting the Diamonds free allows them to possibly go back to their horrible ways of destroying the universe as long as it's not Steven's problem anymore, which, even in the realm of children's shows, is very much possible.
