Is that a new post? Cause I've heard all that rumored stuff before.

It's by far my favorite of the rumors I've heard and the most plausible to me (by which I mean I've heard some really dumb shit). But I just can't see Take Two going with a GTA in the past again. Not when GTA Online is so dependant on selling kids new and futuristic shit.

I know this is "speculation" at best about GTA VI, but this is the best "speculation" I've read about it to date. This touches on the "Project Americas" post from a Reddit post (now deleted.)

  • The next GTA title has been in development since 2012, but production didn't begin properly until 2015, but even then the team was focusing more on Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • It's another Rockstar Worldwide Production.
  • Codename is PROJECT AMERICAS.
  • Set in both Vice City and a new fictional location based on Rio de Janeiro.
  • Some linear missions take place in Liberty City, but it isn't an open world (think Ludendorff in GTA 5).
  • Game will balance realism and arcade and it won't be as realistic as Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • One playable protagonist: male, not female, despite supposed leaks.
  • Set in 1970s-1980s.
  • You play as an up and coming drug lord-wannabe named "Ricardo". Another key character called “Kacey” is a part of the narrative. You start off as a grunt doing runs as a cocaine smuggler from Vice City to the new large South American area before making connections with big time drug lords and making your way up. Multiple cities.
  • There will also be a giant prison which will play a part in the game.
  • Will feature a 'chapter' system similar to a Tarantino flick or Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • Weather is a heavy focus (hurricanes, floods, etc).
  • Buildings change over the eras, vehicles too. So older, rare classic cars get more expensive as time progresses etc. Full economy.
  • Heavily inspired by Netflix's Narcos.
  • They want to have an incredible 70s/80s soundtrack.
  • A younger Martin Madrazo will make an appearance as will his father who is a big drug lord at the time. You do some missions for the Madrazo family involving hits on other gangs.
  • Drug empire building is a mechanic similar to Vice City Stories but bigger. Think the GTA Online system and dial it up to 10.
  • You can only have weapons on your person. No arsenal in your back pocket, like Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • Your personal vehicle will be like your horse saddle in Red Dead Redemption 2. All your equipment is stored in the trunk. You also store your body armour in the car. If you wear it, it appears, no longer just an invisible thing.
  • There will be tons of subtitle reading. Think Max Payne 3 amounts, very immersive, like watching an episode of Narcos. Whenever you're in South America, don't expect to hear much English. Vice City however is a mix of everything, but mostly English.
  • Last bit of narrative info, it will discuss topics such as HIV and the immigration crisis of the time. A fictional version of Fidel Castro etc.
  • Next-gen only, not PS4 or Xbox One [aka PS5 and Xbox Series X]
  • GTA 6 is now their primary focus, alongside another title (which might be Bully 2).
  • Game is still in Pre-Alpha so names, locations, details could and probably will change.
  • No ETA on a release date.

If they do return to Vice City, this would expand from the 3D era Vice City without repeating it 1:1. The supposed new location in conjunction with Vice City would freshen up gameplay and locale.

Weather affecting the dynamic open world would be interesting to see in any open world. And next gen as well. Imagine doing a mission but you had to reschedule because of floods.
>Added some information I forgot.

More like came up with more cool ideas in the shower.

San Andreas was made as a satire of American life in the 90's by British people. They have done a great job at that.

That particular post, no. That Reddit post (before it was deleted), was created on June 29, 2019. However, I've been seeing posts about it from March to June 2020. I just forgot to talk about it.

Part of what makes GTA Online so unfun is all the flying cars and bikes and shit.
And the tedious grind in order to GET those flying vehicles. And the paywalls.

Imagine for a second, the past seven years up until now you've spent hours grinding through this horrid slog fest of a consoomer nightmare only to have those years wasted reset out of the blue and over what? Rockstar/Take-Two seething over people bypassing the otherwise never ending hill climb?
I dunno. I feel for the people who allegedly didnt do the glitch.
May as well discuss my opinions on that glitch and R*'s reaction.

I am usually against exploiting glitches and rampant cheating in online gaming. You could argue that R* was in their rights to enforce action against those who chose to exploit. They even warned about such precautions four years ago.

However, GTA Online has been plagued with outright cheating and modding on the PC platform since launch. And R* has done next to nothing to combat that, while having the audacity to sell Shark Cards.

Players are resorting to money glitches because the grind to get the best gear and such is too tedious. Prices have inflated, but payouts haven't. Their economy hasn't been adjusted properly. Now imagine doing this one glitch and having all your progress wiped. Or even worse, being innocuously banned when you haven't done the glitch.

I'm not condoning the use of glitches to progress or grief. I'm saying GTA Online doesn't give much incentive to grind through.

When thinking about this I realized I'm not really a rockstar fan anymore. I felt burned with V and I still haven't touched RDR2
The little bit of fun I had with GTA Online has been overshadowed by games that actually reward my time.

But I just can't see Take Two going with a GTA in the past again.
I can't remember who the interview was with, but they said making a GTA set in current day is nearly impossible because of the speed at which culture is changing. It would be out of date by the time of release.

Leaks sound pretty good, but as a mexican, we really could do without yet another piece of media glorifying narcos...

I don't think that's necessarily true unless you think meme-ing is the sum total of our culture.

I didn't say it, Dan Houser did.
It’s really unclear what we would even do with it, let alone how upset people would get with whatever we did. Both intense liberal progression and intense conservatism are both very militant, and very angry. It is scary but it’s also strange, and yet both of them seem occasionally to veer towards the absurd. It’s hard to satirize for those reasons. Some of the stuff you see is straightforwardly beyond satire. It would be out of date within two minutes, everything is changing so fast.

Dan Housee is talking about story where take two is more concerned with money. If the story is 3 years behind the current year it's better than the map and setting being 30 years in the past when it comes to selling modern supercars and space bikes.

Also Dan Houser doesnt even work at Rockstar anymore which probably says a lot...

Dont get me wrong I want a 70s and 80s Vice City game more than anything but i just cant see Take 2 being down with it when GTA is now just a vehicle for Online.

I'm sure Dan wasn't the only one who feels like that. He did say 'we.'

And I don't think the time setting matters for selling futuristic vehicles. Why does a rocket powered motorcycle make more sense in a 2013 GTA V than a 1970 GTA VI? They're absurd in both.

The rocket bikes are only two vehicles compared to the hundreds of others that make up the bulk of shark card purchases. They can literally do anything they want but I dont see them throwing all fucking logic out the window with 2020s super cars in 1970 going over well with older fans or zoomers.

Playing through Liberty City Stories. They reference the Internet a lot in ped dialogue and radio. I guess it's in the 90s so it makes sense.

Funnier ped dialog than GTA 3. "I've got a date with a cheese deluxe!" "I'm starving here!"

Business woman trope.

Anyone notice that in GTA V that Dan, Leslie and the crew really made fun of China in the most normie way possible way before Donald Trump brought awareness to the fact that China was stealing our intellectual property?

Granted it has been going on for years, even longer while Carter and Clinton were President, but I always found it funnier that the commentary surrounding it sounds more fresh that it was back in 2013/2014.
