My best guess is that it's just a stunt to try and get as many subs as fast as possible, since he's at 926k and wants to close that million gap before the end of the year. Lord knows he's been hanging onto the Coming Out card for a long time.

Good theory. He has been lamenting the fact that his Fanbase isn’t growing and it’s pretty much boxed in to doing only JimQuisition because everything else he does has insanely less engagement by his own admission.

it’s a dangerous game he’s playing however. Busting out all this weird gender bending stuff too close together as a fat boring white male... he’s really running out of victim points he can spend.
He’s already used up his abusive childhood points,

Context: I can talk about character design for ages because I'm a tard like that, so this video has always stuck in my memory. I didn't grow up with Playstation, and the MGS games are on a laundry list of stuff I want to play.

TL;DW summary: "She breathes through her skin" joke originates here. According to Jim, Kojima "fucked up" by trying to give deep meaningful reasons for cheap fanservice. He points to stuff like Onichambara as sleaze done right.

If that's true, I honestly agree. Put juicy boobs in your game simply 'cuz you like them (point blank period). Exhaustive character bios aren't always necessary for their designs.

But since Jim has misreported on stuff as simple as MK11's price tags, I've grown leery to the accuracy of this video. The fact you can unlock more clothes for Quiet makes me think there's a meta joke/concept he missed in MGSV.

apologies because i'm going to be spoiling the reasoning, since it's pretty plot related.

so, what happens in MGSV is that you start out in a hospital, and everything goes to shit. a female assassin shows up to kill big boss (implied to be you) and your roomate whips a bottle of flammable shit at her, which he then ignites. she goes up in flames and falls out a window. later on, you first encounter quiet in a big, open sniper arena and ultimately tranq her and drag her back to base, and over time win her trust. later after that you learn that quiet is the assassin from the hospital, and her lungs got completely fried. she was recovered by her handlers, and given vocal cord parasites that gave her new powers, more or less derived from The End's own (MGS3 character). as such, her lungs no longer function, she's photosynthetic (like the end) and breathes through her skin (unsure if The End also did this but part of the reasoning is steadier aim with sniper rifles). as a result she's not able to speak, as her vocal cord parasites would kill her (which is a major plot element of the entire second half of the game).

he's right to an extent, but he gets it completely fucking wrong by thinking she's still capable of breathing through her lungs

also bitching about sexualization in an MGS game is fucking stupid, as i've said elsewhere, since everyone gets sexualized. you get stupid sexy old man snake, you get half naked Naked Snake, you get Vamp being...Vamp in MGS2, Raiden spends a good chunk of the ending sequence of MGS2 doing naked cartwheels with his hands over his crotch...

I like how this brave new world of gender freedom still tells us skirts are for girls and pants are for boys and if you like both you must be neither male or female because reasons that totally aren't sexist but we have no other explanation so we'll call you a bigot and try to get you cancelled instead.

But dood! Everyone knows that it's sexist to make a half-naked lady even if the men are given equal treatment! It's IMPOSSIBLE to design her for laughs because the filthy AAA industry has made SO MANY half-naked ladies to be taken seriously! You fell into Jim's trap near the end of that video where... uh... you're just wrong and a Kojima pony for not critiquing him for this ONE instance!

So IMO Quiet's actual lore sounds a bit goofy, but that works fine with her laughably stereotypical "sexy bikini lady" design. I think some of the humor's impact is weakened by the camera giving generic fanservice angles to her tits n' ass (going off the footage Jim included, anyways), but god forbid Kojima might have done a swing and a miss once.

Somewhere in the far future, I might get to witness the finer details to Quiet's writing. I only have four other MGS games beforehand. *goat laugh*
