Very smart, steady-handed, and definitely not mentally ill. I can't fathom why both conservatives and even "liberals" would be hesitant handing major government institutions and large portions of the economy over to the left.

Same, have family and friends in LE and other civil service jobs. Most cops are decent to great, in my (somewhat sizable on reflection) experience, but there are always shitbags in pretty much every department. Even small towns have that one (or more, sometimes even all) dickhead who loves to be a dick, loves to lord power, and loves grift and graft. The thing is, every one of those assholes is almost always universally hated by other cops. They never were involved in community shit, and nobody missed them. When they'd show up to parties, cookouts, and the like, everyone would be tense.

Maybe its just my suburban area and the counties around me. I have no idea how shit goes down in heavy urban areas to be fair. Since my best friends are both felons (who are now some of the most hardest working, honest, and earnest people I've ever known), and 2020 being what it is, I've talked to them about this shit some. They see it pretty much the same. One says the real problems in LEO are mostly prison guards and the like, and with his record he would know a bit about it. There's where the real nutters and corruption goes. My other buddy only served a couple weeks in jail on a plea, so didn't really have an opinion on that.

To be fair, Staties/Highway troopers are mostly glorified traffic cops. Most of the time they just sit on their asses watching people speed on the interstate, unless a local agency is short on manpower and requests officers from the State. I agree with you in spirit though 9/10 State police I've met have been dicks.

My kid brother was a prison guard for like 3 months and says the same shit. Inmates can be fuck ups and assholes, but prison guards are more often than not, huge and unrelenting pieces of shit.

I have an employee thats former Miami-Dade sheriff's dept as well as a former US Marshall and he said the Miami-Dade dept was better than the Marshal's across the board save for funding

Another group that has a LOT of dicks in my own experience are park cops and game wardens/conservation officers. We've done lots of dirt biking and almost every one we've encountered has been a dick. Really? A 500$ ticket for pushing our bikes across a powerline right-of-way? Oh, you think you can confiscate our bikes for pushing them along the side of railroad tracks? Fuck those guys. We ride on private land we have persmission to ride on, we push our bikes between areas, like responsible and respectful people. But that's really not relevant and just a personal bitch of mine. I never saw one of those assholes at events, either.
 
Miami-Dade sucks ass so I can only imagine how much worse the Marshals have to be.

Coworker of mine was a Border Patrol Agent and has many a tale on how working the southern border sucks ass. Where they put beginning agents, pay, not paying for relocation... Then there's also the fact that BPA has a shitty personal weapons / rifle policy as well.. Unless you're BORTAC anyway.

Im told where I live is one of the very few "good" BP postings on the Mexican border, which makes sense because the cartels try to avoid it at all costs because every alphabet soup associated to the DoD has a major presence and fucking up too hard here might be the secret to having Juan-Carlo eat a drone strike

I was thinking about trying to get into BPA until we were talking about it on shift one night. I still want to try for ICE but going to wait for the election before submitting an application.

Also, I think I have an inkling of where you're talking about because I've probably been at that field office for a polygraph. The amount of shit they have on the border now, tech wise is kind of nuts so I would not be surprised at all if a Reaper-lite decided to suddenly drop by to give Luis and Jose a tax payer all expenses paid trip to whatever the Mexican afterlife is.

I can't speak for anywhere else, but here in the Midwest there are two types of game wardens/conservation officers:
  1. People who are outdoorsmen/outdoorswomen and deliberately wanted to be game wardens because they like hunting, fishing, or other outdoors activities. This is a minority, and they're usually pretty reasonable and professional about dealing with the public.
  2. People who couldn't get a job anywhere else in law enforcement/are such fuckups that they're pariahs among other LE. This is the majority, and the people who are usually pricks about everything.
 
The absolute worst cops are always the major robbery squad and any kind of anti-gang taskforce. They act like mafia with badges in pretty much every department in the world.

Thank fucking god that the requirements to be a game warden around these parts are so damn autistic that unless you're actually all up on the environment you aren't getting within rifleshot distance of a game warden job.
 
The only game warden I regularly encounter looooooves slipping into the state game lands shooting range and asking to see your hunting/range license when you're fully loaded down with all your gear. If you've already unpacked or are packing up to leave, he'll ignore you, but he seems to love to sneak up on guys with their arms full.

When you're not the guy being targeted for it it can be funny, and he's friendly otherwise (I think he just likes to catch people unaware/off guard) but come on dude.

Most G&F dudes Ive known have been retired cops that just want a job chilling in the woods and fucking with people, which I support in theory. But I do see how in places with way too many counties and not enough chill old dudes how that could breed assholes
