I think we are going to need a General Pokeclones thread someday, as more keep being created (not just mon, but, like, direct we-were-cease-and-desisted-but-thinking-is-hard ones, with same battle systems and type matchups - which they are sometimes being cute about by renaming elements less intuitively. "Oh, but Kopemon's types are Right, Alight, Fight, Bight, Flight, Dendrite, Blight, Light, Height, Bright, Meteorite, White, Mite, Might, Fright, Night, Knight and Sprite, so what Night deals double damage to Bright and is weak to Fight, it's ORIGINAL"* ), like Minecraft-based SnapBeasts, or such. Often by people in same or close circles, it seems (I am no sleught, so this could be coinky-dink, but still).

*I did not put that much thought in this.
That would definitely work actually. But would it be a drama thread, or would we also mention things like “Robopon” and other obscure monster games.

Here you go.

Temtems fourth island has released!

I'm playing it right now... and it is running an impressive amount of ass.

First off, the price increase was a lot smaller than I and most people were expecting - $35 to $37.5. that's nothing.

With that said, I hopped into the game.

The Kisiwans are super explicitly african, to the point of saying 'bwana' a hell of a lot and having an entirely different speech pattern. Which is weird, because if any two islands would resemble each other, it'd be the LITERALLY CONNECTED Tucma and Kisiwa.

Also, they blew up most of the tunnels that provide access to a lot of Kisiwa, because that makes sense. Obviously, the best plan for gating the player's progression through a shortcut is having these people blow up their tunnels.

So many things about this line are cringe - full on Demolition Man Murder Death Kill levels of clunkiness played for drama - but how the hell have the Belsotos, who up to this point have been portrayed as completely mysterious but fairly ineffectual attackers - caused so much damage that they have to blow up their own tunnels to access it.

Also as I type this people keep walking through me to the door...

How the fuck did it spiral this far out of control this quick? To say nothing of how the tucma rep on the other side of the same fucking room has no clue what's going on.

The game says the next areas are tuned to level 37-38 temtem, so my 36-39 temtem should be fine. Only, the literal FIRST FIGHT OUT THE FUCKING DOOR is against level FORTY SEVEN temtem, and clearly meant to drain resources.

Anyway, so far i've caught a terrible Kuri and a decent Goty. I've seen both this thing's mid form and it's final in promo material and a fight, so maybe I'll take it along? It's got the terrible name 'Mouflank' though...

Serene, wildland music plays as I fight the invading army of Belsotos, starring a grunt who literally can't tell I'm right in front of him. This is what has captured most of the island, remember. This is the tone they're trying to set.

Also, here's the next Dojo leader.

Apparently Tucma's willing to leave them to die. So one kid disturbing the peace gets locks the fuck up but they're going to let Kisiwa die, beyond any common sense?

Man, fuck tucma.

A conversation regarding temtem names. If this has any meta origin, Pigepic is soooo much better than any other name they gave.

1595426532817.png

While fancy, in this game that's pretty much just a pidgey.

1595426582658.png

Don't tell her though, this is definitely the face of someone willing to kill you.

1595426683736.png

There are a lot of typos in this. combined with the performance, this feels very 'first workable version'.

1595426829783.png

FAIR AND BALANCED

And then my game crashed.

I got the option to ask these two 'who are you and why do you look so alike'. They look nothing alike.

1595494870881.png

I think he means the other guy.

1595496083803.png

Man fallposes through the dojo.

1595496417184.png

I lost to the boss of the dojo, which is just, peachy. Of course, I didn't lose because it was a fair fight - I lost because the bastard uses a level 50 neutral temtem (mine were 39-41) and they're starting to have enough stamina to spam brokefuck moves for several turns.

Okay... this is actually pretty cool. You can get a 'bag' that allows you to incubate the first egg in your party, doubling the hatch speed and visibly carrying it.

This game chugs like a motherfucker right now, which it didn't use to before. Apparently, the issue causing all the performance issues is...

wait for it...

Global chat.

A FUCKING TEXT BOX IS CAUSING PERFORMANCE ISSUES.

And it is NOT moving fast.

I don't know the language the game is coded or anything netplay, but I guarantee you the issue behind the global chat is caused by it either checking way too fucking often (think 100 times per millisecond) or the function that fetches the chat is passing through a bunch of checks for stuff like naughty gamer words.

Maybe it's checking 100 times to make sure no one is useing the wrong pronouns.

I'm wondering if I should bother booting up my copy... I've been into bloodstained and it's sequel...

Much better game in my opinion and less than half the price of Temtem.
Weird, I had a bloodstained playthrough recently too. Fun game, although you eventually get 'fuck you' overpowered and it honestly gets a little less fun.

This updates taking me a long time, though I don't know how much of that is new content and how much is me grinding to get my team up to scruff. Certainly feels like the longest island yet.

I lost a bunch of screenshots in the middle, so this jumps a bit ahead. We eventually get the ability to climb walls, and come across a fishing resort that's inaccessible by foot and largely occupied by guards from tucma... the same guards who imprisoned us before.

So, these guys are from tucma and were dicks to us before, and are now happy to help... even though it was just a plot point that Tucma wasn't helping? As early as the last town? He gives me the mission to head to the literal next town.

View attachment 1479499

To make things more confusing, he says mission complete as soon as I walk inside?

Anyway, later on, three people who were nowhere near kisiwa are the sole hope of the island, including me. We're sneaking into the city, and we're accosted by (and defeat) a guard.

Then this happens:
1596017916654.png

Where's he keeping this prisoner?

1596017947914.png

ON THE STAIRS IN BROAD GODDAMN DAYLIGHT.

Mind you, of the three people who came here, I'm only aware of two that can fight, and only one that is fighting - me. The other two immediately stop to look after prisoners. I head back to where I can heal...

1596018513760.png

AND THE BELSOTO IS GONE.

And Matthew keeps talking like nothing's wrong.

And then if you actually go inside and heal, the guy respawns?

1596019540581.png

Why does it keep giving me options to act like an emotionally stunted manchil- wait, don't bother answering that.

Anyway, Max does a heel-face turn when he learns that he'll actually have to kill people, because he's fine with people dying as long as it doesn't happen to him, and the general literally just shoves him over the edge into the fucking abyss.

I can't take this moment seriously. The pathetic Max 'scream', the fact he has to take like four steps back to actually fall, the fact there's really not any music or much highlight this to moment, the fact he goes for a two-handed push rather than any number of much cooler ways to knock someone over the edge...

1596022516847.png

And then the general fights you.

1596022678605.png

This is how they make 'unwinnable' fights now, btw. The current max level is 58 - these bastards are nearly 1 and a half times the current max level to try and make this fight unwinnable.

(You can still beat it, you just need to spam Revives. But it only gives you a pittance of money, though the general does note your power.)

Ya know, when MangaKamen made his video about this game, he brought up a comparison between Max and Chazz from yugioh GX, and how there was a bit of a similar arc between the two characters, since when they lose to the MC too many times, they decide to join the bad guys in order to become stronger. And yet...

What the fuck?!

This is probably one of the worst characters I've ever seen in fiction. What an absolute pissant.

Beautiful Spritework and fun gameplay, have you tried going through a Zangetsu only playthrough? That can really amp up the difficulty.

Nothing says good game design like poorly thought out; lazy my stats are higher then yours by a lot fights.
They could easily made it a few levels higher but gave them well thought out teams that was more challengeing for that part of the game.
But no they had to go the lazy route. :stress: Hate to see how slogful and unfun the later islands are gonna be.

To be fair, with how Pokemon games tend to function, it's hard to make an unwinnable fight without throwing high level pokemon at you that you have no hope to beat. But instead of having op pokemon that are 30 levels over yours, why not throw in some uber pokemon that isn't available yet that is ludicrously OP and near-uncontrollable, and have part of the plot be trying to find a way to weaken/contain this op pokemon so that you can have it safely? Or go pokemon coloseum and have them have a strong move that does tons of damage, but in your hands that move has a metric ton of recoil that quickly kills it and motivates you to consider getting rid of that move because it's unreliable?

That be the smart and well thought out method of designing it. So that rules out it ever going to be put in TemTems.

The quest to get a house takes five minutes just to explain, involves going into a bunch of corners of the map (remember: no fast-travel except between one specific city per island) and requires you to catch/raise and give two different mid-stage temtem to two random assholes.

Holy shit, guys.
