I am honestly not trans, since I do not "feel like a woman", but it's more like a roleplay or cosplay I'm attracted to, because I am fundamentally male, and I love having a dick (compared to an internet friend who says he is disgusted by his own dick). idk

I don't feel the need to "come out" or anything because I don't think it would help me at all and I've never been really attracted to one person or desired a relationship with someone specific. I'm kinda fucked in the head but not that bad

Clothes are just clothes. They don't have a sex outside of how they're fitted, really, and the sex a garment belongs to is usually based on what expectations a society has for how either sex dresses. Wear whatever you like to wear, and when you think it might be a bad idea, socially, to wear something, don't wear it. You wouldn't wear a boardwalk giftshop knockoff cartoon character t-shirt to a job interview, so just use the same sensibility for whatever frilly socks you enjoy wearing. Wear them when and where appropriate and you aren't going to make yourself or other people uncomfortable.

I think one of the many many ways that the modern trans movement has reinforced gender roles is through how people dress. Like it was mentioned upthread, no one used to care if a glammy rocker dudes dressed effeminately. David Bowie. Prince. Boy George. And, like, etc. I think a genuinely forward thinking and egalitarian society wouldn't care about how feminine or masculine people like to dress.

So, keep wearing comfy socks and don't let discord trannies convince you to do self harm in the form of hormone drugs and genital mutilation. Never thought I'd have to say that, but yeah. Here we are.

Speaking of which, I know the answer some will give will be obvious, but what do some of you feel about the gender reassignment surgery?

Personally, I feel like that kind of operations should be used as a last resort to those suffering with dysphoria.

Shit should be illegal. Has never helped anyone. It's a sterilization surgery reserved for the mentally ill.

it definitely shouldn't be prescribed liberally. i think i pretty much agree in the sense that there should be clear and strict guidelines for transition that shouldn't be too easy to get through. seeing a mental health professional should be built in to the requirements, to ensure it's the right course for that individual. this is at least sort of the case where i live, where any surgery you want to get has to be approved by a doctor and you need a note from a therapist (the exact requirements vary depending on the type of surgery).

there have been a few studies that have shown that long-term, those who've transitioned/had GRS have been and remained satisfied and/or have had an increase in quality of life (though it's obviously not a magic bullet and doesn't make your other issues disappear).

whenever possible any stage of transition should be paired with mental health care. not only does it help in the cases of someone mistaking some other issue for dysphoria, it helps those that do have dysphoria to deal with all that comes with the condition.

What do you guys think of Blanchard's trans typology? It says there are two groups: homosexual transsexuals and autogynophellic transsexuals. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blanchard's_transsexualism_typology

To me it makes sense and a lot of people online seem to fall into the AGP category, but like many topics in psychology it may never get to be rigorously tested.

I was reading The Man Who Would Be Queen a few weeks ago and it's thought-provoking but still not on solid research footing imo

If you're a guy, I'd say probably not, since you're effectively watching something which is somewhere in between lesbian sex and heterosexual sex. If watching that is gay, then regular, straight porn almost certainly is. This is, of course, totally immaterial, since insecurely worrying about whether or not something is gay is perhaps gayer than anything else.

While Autogynophilia is definitely a real phenomenon, I really doubt that the distinction is as clear cut as Blanchard likes to believe. There are many transsexuals that display elements of both, ContraPoints comes to mind. May be it is a spectrum, but whatever it is, I do not agree with the idea that you're either one or the other.

It's tough because there's a lot of intersection between AGP/paraphilia and the other mental illnesses that troons usually have: NPD, BPD, and autism. Makes nailing down the exact diagnosis difficult.
