I feel that if Jr. was to wise up and cut off all ties with his father, Jack probably wouldn't feel a hint of remorse. Every interactions I've seen between Sr. and Jr. has given the impression that they are distant with each other; every time Sr. has had his son on the show it is very forced, fake, and awkward. Jack never genuinely wants to cook with his son - he just uses him to remind his audience that he's not only Lazy Chef Extraordinaire, but a family man too!
He has learned absolutely nothing about his interactions with his previous son, and if he has, he's too lazy to actually do it with Jr. It's rather depressing, really.
