With Patreon, charges that bounce are removed from the total. NP2 doesn't do this. A lot of that $1900 are dead gift cards.

$1,200 is between 50% to 75% of my month to month. Losing it would hurt, but it would not put me in dire straights. Not so much so that I would need to do something unprincipled to keep it. I am a very, very shrewd person and that is how this site has survived on $0/mo for years. I have about $50,000 in available credit, a decent amount of cash, and a credit score over 750. I can eat.

That said, $1.2k is better than nothing, but that $1.2k is not Dick Masterson's money. Dick has never paid me for anything. I've proposed to him business ideas that he'd pay out of pocket to me for, but he has rejected them. With NP2,. I pay him 3% ('Paying Forward') of what people pledge to me. I pay him to use NP2, he does not pay me and he never has. He enables me to make money and I pay him for the privilege. Of course he provides the payment processor. The merch run demonstrated i have trouble procuring payment processors on my own. That is true. That's why I pay him.

Dax is not my money. He does not give me money. He does not control my money. My money comes from the community, from the fanzone, and from the broader Internet. I get PMs with gift card details I charge on a payment processor I keep secret for once-off contributions. I wake up and there's $500 in Litecoin in my crypto wallet I didn't have when I went to bed.

A payment processor, a subscriber platform. These things are replaceable. The goodwill and integrity of the community is not. That is why I am 'defensive'. I have discarded better people from my life than Dick Masterson for fucking with me and no one should doubt my conviction to keeping this site unfucked with.
