You know, my brother's a pretty big supporter of that convention. Apparently a pretty decent thing. Seems like it more or less got strong-armed by SJWs in the last two years.

What happened? A lot of SJWs have suddenly popped up at my local cons, and a lot of people who used to be libertarians now somehow think censorship and enforced niceness is the way to go. Similar story, only they've actually taken over?

The claims of it being a cult aren't really far off.
GaymerX is particularly susceptible to it because, well, it's pretty LGBT focused. A lot of the people there have usually faced some sort of shit in their life that lead to self-esteem problems at the very least, which is what a lot of the SJW shit prays on. And that leads to the groupthink more or less spreading to more and more people.
Like, shit, they got strong armed out of a neutral stance a few months back. It's fucking disgusting- whether like the con or not, but it more or less got fucked over by the very people that claim to be allies. It's a depressing, sad story.
Well, I think the thing about SJWs is that the majority of the, aren't really bad people. Misguided, but well-intentioned, is more accurate. They're mostly people who genuinely do want to help out on some level- and here comes this massive, growing idelogy that's supposed to be about tolerance. Seems like something that'd be really helpful, and keep in mind most low-levels tend to have massive self-esteem problems or are dumb teenagers so it's a matter of people being indoctrinated into it.

In many cases, things followed what I am henceforth dubbing The Vade Paradigm, referencing how Vade got in control of FurryScumbags and essentially took an established Tumblr community dedicated to warning about pedophiles/rapists/etc and turned it into her personal attack platform. How it generally works is that one of these individuals will approach a community they intend to infiltrate, often surreptitiously, and operate innocuously for a time as they spread feelers out and try to make friends with the establishment. Smarter Admins and Mods see these tactics for what they are straight away, since these fuckers always have to have more power and almost invariably lie awake at night figuring out ways to try to get it, and any community with meritocratic standards or a public review process is right the fuck out, because they can't operate on such a field.
But sometimes they luck out, and either through someone not knowing any better, or, more commonly, encountering a sympathetic Admin who sees a chance for a power play, they maneuver themselves into a position of authority - and from there, you're off to the proverbial races. Once there, they operate behind the scenes, not quite wanting hundreds of followers and instead focusing on controlling as many aspects of their followers as possible, and will quickly move to solidify a power-base amongst sympathetic staff and by appointing various lieutenants. Like a religious cult, they control the members of their chosen groups completely, and through them, wield influence - especially if an Admin or Mod turns out to be a true believer for one of these assholes and acts as a rubberstamp. Most of the time, these people prefer to act as a mouthpiece, and only rarely allows themselves to be thrown into the public arena, because if they are exposed, they melt quickly under criticism and their power is only nascent in the echo chamber.
In this fashion, they gradually mutate and control things, change their focus, and often in an incremental, gradual way, which, coincidentally enough, almost entirely focuses on limiting the abilities of others to evict them from their position. They quickly become addicted to this level of power and desire more, pushing their followers into further extremes to appease their own egos and expand their own power-base. By this point, they chase off saner voices and leave only the crazy and true believers in their camp, and the community they infiltrated is now theirs. Such infiltration is much easier if the community itself can claim a moral high ground somehow, such as standing up for the rights of the oppressed or minorities, which is why so many Tumblrites and SJWs use this exact same fucking tactic.
The one saving grace of these people is that they're fucking paranoid and know that if they're exposed and dragged out of an echo chamber, they're fucking toast. Even on communities they tend to dominate, like Tumblr, they're almost invariably a pathetically small minority of dismal failures who can't operate correctly outside of the proverbial hugbox. They are fucking terrified of exposure on most communities. They'll front hard, claiming to be fearless, but if anyone cracks through the shell they'll find that they have nothing but softness underneath - and these people will resort to hilarious (and fucking horrifying) extremes in order to deal with any legitimate criticism. Anything they can do to control the narrative, no matter how openly illegal, immoral, or reprehensible is fair game (see also: how Randi Harper openly uses her cozy relationship to Twitter's mod staff to blacklist people who criticize her).

Hahaha holy shit, is Randi a fucking retard? Kern's a massively followed game developer- and is actually really fucking important. He's also followed by a fairly large chunk of devs who are actually relevant (ie not the fuckwits in the clique and Bioware).
Either way, this is making the gap between GoT seasons way easier to wait through.

GaymerX is no neutral. Hasn't been in about four years. I went over this a few pages ago, but its current head is involved with a burgeoning economic shitstorm involving Kickstarter and embezzling money from GaymerX therefor. Bonus points for the current head being chummy with Quinn, Lifschitz, and Grayson, et al.
And the current head is another insane transgendered individual, because of course they are.
I swear to christ. Transpeople account for a ridiculously small, minute percentage of the human population. Why the fuck are there so goddamned many of them in the Anti camp? I know plenty of sane ones that aren't! Statistically, the odds of this kind of thing happening are astronomical.

Yeah, anyone can go on the internet and claim to be something since really, anyone is anonymous until they manage to divulge enough info. Anyone here could step up and claim to be a transgendered individual without providing much proof other than at most using some random picture that could convince people.

I'm not going to write a page long post about how the SJW aspect of one side is more likely going to attract a certain type of person from tumblr who tends to change their gender every other week (like Vade) when the truth of the matter is most trans people don't give a fuck about gamergate. Hell, most people with lives don't give a fuck about it. Following this thing takes a HUGE chunk of time that many people can't spare. I'm not saying it means gamergate doesn't matter because the fact that it just existing seems to create schisms in large online communities says something.

So I think both sides have good points and bad points. I think that if the journalists are offended, then they should have a right to speak up, but I also think they might not grasp the gaming community that well. The gamers have a right to play games if they want to, but it seems as if there is a healthy subsection of MRAs, antifeminists and other nasties. I mostly try to not get involved.

Well, that violation of ethics wasn't found until after whoever is heading the twitter account was pressured into moving from effectively not giving a shit to condemning the movement. I'll have to dig up links in a bit- I might be misremembering that event, since it was pretty hazy.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was pressure from the inside now, too.
It's because you don't need to tell the truth on the internet, and claiming to be trans = fireshield. On top of that, part of why you're fucking grilled by psychiatrists and such for hormone treatments is because mental disorders can manifest as wanting to be the other sex- but not actual gender dysphoria.
Apologies to any LGBT kiwis if I screwed up on the logic of that or otherwise misunderstood it.

Sadly Gamergate is what made these two into such "influential" people not too mention the huge monies they pulled in from it. The real victor in all this is Scarskin as she went from a zero to a hero with hundreds of thousands of unearned dollars funneled into her and her cronies accounts.
In the future we may very well regret the exposure that these professional victims received from Gamergate; they now have far more influence in the industry, and even in the real world media, with which to twist future events to their liking. It may be that we are responsible for creating the very people who go on to destroy what we hold dear.

I think they were hoping that by this point, a pro-GG voice would have actually tried to assault them a la the SVU episode. The closest thing they had were Jace and Tyce, who turned out to be actors pulling an elaborate ruse. As a result, you've got Reuben trying to convince people that he's a government official who totally knows that "two transexual developers have died because of Gamergate" while refusing to offer any proof outside of "multiple sources have confirmed it" and Wu trying to pass off a months-old threat against GG as a recent threat towards herself.
The only place in the gaming industry where she has any real power is the journalist scene with a scattering of indie devs, and the journalists are a dying breed. More MSM attention just means more people becoming aware of her idiocy--I recall one anon mentioning that after the Colbert episode, his mother (who knew nothing about video games) was able to tell that Sarkintosh had no idea what she was talking about. If she gets a bigger soapbox, that just means she has further to fall when the time comes.
There was an anon on 8chan a while ago who claimed to be from some sort of government agency. Aside from some words of vague encouragement, he mentioned that the government was predicting a large backlash against politically correct culture in about a decade, but recent developments like Shirtgate and Gamergate may have sped the process up somewhat. Again, it was an anon, so everything he said was unverifiable, but it's a nice thought to have.

Gamergate sure as shit didn't donate to Sarkenstein's Kickstarter (which predates it by almost 2 years) and she isn't likely to succeed at another with her current battery of failures under her belt. Likewise the Patreon Hate Brigade that fucking every one of these degenerate assholes subscribe to would be working irrespective of whether or not Gamergate happened. If we didn't have the Zoe Quinn debacle get the ball rolling, we'd have seen it when one of these faggots dropped their spaghetti at some point or another, because this is how they fucking roll.
This shit's true of Wu, as well. Revolution 60 happened before Gamergate got off the ground. It only got mainstream press (which demonstrated it to be shit) because Wu wouldn't shut the fuck up about it (or was her meltdown on Steam not proof enough)? Every time one of these morons steps outside of their hugbox, they come across as fucking deranged. Fact is, Gamergate "won" in the opening fucking salvo, and everything since has been watching the opposition slowly bleed out and turn on one another like rats when food gets scarce.
Fact is, Gamergate dick-punched them, and they know it. Gamergate isn't something they can destroy. It's since become too big, and because it's stayed more-or-less leaderless, it's been impossible to keep at bay. And not for lacking of trying, either.
It's survived multiple attempted board subversions, the destruction of 4chan, and one of the most reprehensible campaigns conducted against a single group of people in the last 20 fucking years, and did so with a smile on its face. Every day it gets more and more support from a broader and broader coalition. It's essentially turned the tide against the SJWs, and it's caused a ripple effect that's being felt everywhere. People aren't afraid of these fuckers anymore, and they once were. We've heard about this from game devs, producers, and even people in the tech field.
And Gamergate's scored major wins. Rewrites of ethics policies on Twitch and Steam, multiple sites re-organizing to do actual journalism as opposed to the existing sites, and fucking major damage done to the old guard by boycotting and avoidance. Gawker's trailing (and currently trying to rebrand itself), Kotaku is descending, and Joystiq's already fucking dead. The Escapist kicked out its battery of SJWs and hired people who are openly fucking pro-Gamergate, which is essentially a case of Gamergate storming the proverbial trenches. There's even people on Tumblr right the fuck now (Operation Firefly) who are taking the fight directly to the ballpit and aren't being silenced by the so-called SJWs.
Things have calmed down a little, courtesy of things entering a sort of "Cold War" mode, but as we saw from the Dawkinspocalypse yesterday, there's going to be constant habbendings, and there's literally fuck all the Antis can do to stop it, because they're serial assholes literally incapable of acting like sane human beings. Every stupid utterance they make serves to alienate the sane. We got Mark Kern and Richard Dawkins turning against the Antis (the former of whom is now strongly Pro-GG). They're going to lose more, and it's going to be fucking glorious.
Also, as of this moment, /gamergatehq/ is number 4 on the boards list and is 2 boards from displacing /gg/. This happened even faster than the earlier /gg/ to /gamergate/ transition took place. /gamergate/ has been blown off the board list.
