Prowler are a pain in the ass. Keep trying to chainsaw the fuckers thinking they're Imps.
The number of times I tried strafing around a large demon like a mancubus or a tyrant only to run into one of those fuckers right as they teleport behind me is way more than I would like. They aren't even that dangerous, they're just pests that block your path.

Unmayker with infinite Ammo, infinite onslaught and the party and Quakecoj cheats activated is a wonderful victory lap.

Remember when people like Shaun were claiming no one was mad about the Mortally Challenged thing?

Personally find frequency of the term's use annoying. It was likely intended to be, though.

I found it kinda amusing how pervasive the "mortally challenged" line was. It was that one-off line that people latched onto so they could be angry about something and call Doom problematic without resorting to complaining about the violence.

Part of me likes to think that they added more references to that name specifically to piss those same people off, but it's more likely that it was always there and id did the right thing by ignoring people who weren't going to play the game anyway.

I caught that the Seraphim said the same lines to the Slayer as when Hayden offered him the Argent. I didn't catch that the Makyr's name was also Samul. It's interesting but it's all so strange given Hayden's previously antagonistic role.
I'm not sure if that is Sam or not, but from what Samuel said about "different management" with regards to the Argent production as well as blaming Khan Maykr for what the Icon does to her realm after bringing it there, I got the impression he's been actively trying to prevent Hell from coming to Earth. Remember that he actively searched for you in Doom 2016 well before shit went bad, and that the red armored elites in that game had a suit that looked and functioned similarly to yours, what with you getting upgrade points from them. My personal take is he was going to equip you and those elites with as much Argent-powered weaponry as he could, and then send you in to smash up Nekroval once and for all. Don't forget the ARC he set up had plenty of disaster response bunkers and daemon-resistant AI-run factories for things, too, so that's Plan B I'm assuming. Of course, after you ripped and tore his Plan A to pieces, of course he's going to send your ass to Hell to cool down for a bit.

Yes it's Kotaku, but I wanted to share this particularly stupid article because there are some hilariously cringy bits here.

See the title's not so bad because that's a legit opinion to take with it. I think Civvie himself said something along those lines.

Until...
64 is the more relatable, more affective experience for me because it’s an action game that makes room for sadness.

Er...what? Sadness?

What he's actually talking about is the fact that the game's backstory involves the Doomguy suffering from severe PTSD after the events of Doom 1 and 2. Given the series we're talking about, it's less an exploration of mental illness and more an excuse to get the character back to killing demons because that's the only thing anyone plays these games for.

The Doom Marine is the archetype of white masculine power fantasy in gaming—a role he continues to fill to this day without much change—so this rare acknowledgement of vulnerability, trauma, and mental illness is important, and one that I appreciate in my own experiences of mental illness. It’s still not often that men in action games are allowed to be tired or sick, and even less often that they’re allowed to be afraid. The result is still a power fantasy, but one tinged with the contours of depression.

Of course it isn't Kotaku without talking about white power fantasy. But all this is such a bizarre take considering that 1) all this is in the manual and absolutely none of it is explored in any capacity in the game itself, and 2) the in-game texts indicate that the Doomguy isn't so much vulnerable and suffering as he is bloodthirsty and itching to kill. And of course the guy writing this has a mental illness. Of fucking course he does. It's such a nonsensical position to take. Yes, Doom 64 is a far more slow-paced affair but it lends itself to horror and tension, not fucking depression.

Doom 64, with its depressive atmosphere, hits me in a way the other classic games don’t, despite my love for them. I’ve been living with severe depression for a long time, and it costs and costs and costs. I wonder sometimes if, like the Marine, I’ve wilfully trapped myself in a vicious cycle by taking so long to acknowledge my mental illness and the work that goes into accommodating it.

I don't think you should be relating to a guy who takes such sadistic pleasure in murdering demons that he ends up looking less like a mentally scarred soldier and more like an psychopathic killer whose victims just happen to be hellspawn. Just for reference, this is from the intermission screen when you first arrive in Hell.

It does not matter... The demons spawn like rats and you have the grade AAA U.A.C. poison they crave. Your bloodthirsty scream shatters the teleport maze. Once again you find yourself amidst..."

I really wasn't having fun with this for the first few hours but after the cultist base I hit my stride. There also seems to be less platforming after that point too. I DETEST platforming in games where it doesn't belong. Doom is one of these games. You get a good flow going ripping and tearing through demons and then you get to a platforming segment and the entire game just slows right down. I've died due to the shitty platforming more than anything else in this so far.

I'm loving the meat hook they added. Gauss rifle from 2016 >>>>> ballista. Frag grenade awesome especially fully upgraded. Overall It's good once you get past the slog of the first few hours.

I have one slayer gate left to do, pray for me kiwis.

My one dissapointment is that the RIP. AND. TEAR. song used in the trailer only appears once in a very specific instance. I loved those vocals.

Because Shaun, you and your ilk getting assblasted over stuff like this of all things is just further proof that you're no different from the Moral Majority boomers that got assblasted over the satanic imagery in the first game. Therefore, like them, you deserve to be assblasted

I’m amazed there don’t seem to be any crucible skins. The fleshy one is fully modeled, though I wonder if the skull would clip through your arm.

I couldn't do it guys. I made it an amusing hour and 59 minutes in but all the grating things feel so grating that I can't stand the thought of playing through more to get to the "good part" people keep telling me about. I wanted to like it but it's such a slog. There's so many mechanics that just don't flow well together and the platforming just feels unecessary altogether, I'm just not having fun guys :(

Give it time and what difficulty are you on? Remember to use the chainsaw to get ammo.
