Another update on the Crusade of Doom; I am more than halfway through Plutonia as of today.

To say it has been emotionally and mentally exhausting is an understatement. I'll be honest, I have never really completed Plutonia, only TNT. So experiencing the Archvile Maze TM firsthand is something I have never really done before in classic Doom.

I will say however, the fights are as intense as ever if not more so than Doom 2, and the maps are short but sweet, perfect for a guy like me who is starting to get a little tired of the Doom Engine's shenanigans (Sue me, three of these games in a row can get a little samey).

The journey is only a quarter way through, but already I can feel the determination to finish what I started coursing through me. There are still so many demons to slay, and only a mere 46 days remaining until the REAL shit begins. I have to complete this final trial before I can move on to the majesty of Doom 64, and by proxy Doom 2016.

I have to finish this.

For Daisy.

There’s a bunny cage in Eternal’s hub.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it but Recently PrBoom was Ported to Game Boy Advance by Doomhack and a guy named Kippykip made a fork of it that adds improvements. It runs pretty decent on the old Gameboy Advance, can get slow if there is alot of shit visually on screen, but iI'd Say I am Impressed on how well run on almost 19 year old hardware

right there isn't a really easy way to build the Rom, you have to built thru source right now

At least whoever played this isn't brain damaged and knows how to move in 3 dimensions.
Indeed.

Completed Plutonia just a few moments ago. A harrowing, yet addicting experience to be sure. The amount of sheer DANGER in every map shows how masterfully the Casali brothers nailed the Doom lineup of monsters. Easily one of my favorite WADs as of recently.

I am now worthy of Doom Eternal; I have defeated Plutonia on Ultra-Violence.

FUCK Archviles. Revenants are cool tho, I could never hate them.

Don't forget about Sigil, the secret levels, console exclusive levels, and all the other goodies. TNT has an unofficial sequel, while Plutonia also has an unofficial sequel.

Already done; I booted up Sigil after Doom 1 because I consider the two a singular package. Then I did the Plutonia secret levels (With my gear intact) after beating the main campaign. Currently waiting a few days to cool down from the insanity of Doom right now and to line up the games properly per week. Doom 64 is up next, then Doom 3, Resurrection of Evil and finally Doom 2016, which I hope to beat a couple days before Eternal releases. It'll feel great off the high of Doom '16, and then just jump right into Doom Eternal fresh off of said high. The sense of progression so far has been great.

Well what a coincidence, I just completed that maze for the first time last night (doing my own Plutonia playthrough; never got past Ghost Town until yesterday).

It's certainly one of the more creative and creepy levels in classic Doom. The music certainly helps with the atmosphere, though frankly it got a bit tiring at the end because I killed most of the Arch-Viles and couldn't figure out where I had to go.

I'll link this again:

Y'know it was Civvie that inspired me to play Plutonia for the first time and it was Civvie who convinced me to give it another go the other day (@Kane Lives ' recommendation helped with that).

What was funny to me is even after watching this video, Plutonia's still crammed with evil traps that Civvie never covers so it was still a fresh experience.

Looks like the chainsaw regens a charge so they don’t have pretense to give us a pistol this time.
The chainsaw's interesting in that it has both fuel and a cooldown. I think they're doing this so you can't just cheese your way through a crowd of small enemies like you could in 2016 if you had enough fuel.

I have to wonder if this is set later in the game, sort of giving us a taste for bigger things.

I say this because it doesn't explain how the Doom Slayer got out of Hell, VEGA's resurrection, or what happened to Samuel.
Well Doom 2016 didn't tell us right off the bat that the person we were playing as was an ancient warrior dedicated to killing demons. I'm sure that most players (myself included) assumed they would be playing as another marine (the codex even refers to him as the Doom Marine). There's this sort of delayed reveal that's only obvious if you replay the game.

I predict Eternal will explain these things eventually, and like 2016 it will be more obvious when you replay it and recognize the story beats.

-rev up the dislike button-

I'm a fairly big fan of doom. Doom 2016 was fun, the revenants look exactly like what I'd imagine a realistic revenant would look like, The glory kills were fun, but in hindsight, after playing the old dooms so much, doom 2016 was serious Sam with demons The lockdowns to keep you in one arena (also probably for performance reasons), the collectible bobbleheads, etc.

To be fair, doom 3 did sort of the same with demons teleporting in and the monster closets.

I'm looking forward to doom eternal, it'll probably be a fun game, the story bits will be interesting.

The whole multiverse and angels and all this "worldbuilding" is where the signs of things to come start to turn dark for me.

But I can't help but shake the nagging feeling ID is becoming like Bethesda, or Bethesda is pulling the strings.

after eternal, I think all bets are off. Skyrim with cyberdemons and paid dlc armor for your space marine, and shotgun skins.

I'm not so doom and gloom. Yeah, we got some Doom shoutout DLC in Fallout 4, but so far they've learned "do not fuck up what makes Doom fun if you want money".

After Wolfenstein showed them the hideous result of ignoring that advice to the point even they had to admit they screwed up, and unless they want to throw away the last thing that makes them money, then I doubt Bethesda is going screw this up too badly.

We even got a retro re-release of the classic Doom games on Bethesda.net that is actually, to my shock, competent.

tl;dr: A little caution is understandable, but unless Bethesda shits stupid on the table regarding Eternal prior to release, I wouldn't cancel any pre-orders just yet.
