Full disclosure, I used to be one of these heroic revolutionaries who was going to change/save the world. Started in my teens and only started truly mellowing out in my 30's. It was for all the usual reasons, anger at parents, at religion, at society and all that jazz. Objectively speaking, it was a form of mental illness shared by most if not all of my clique. But, you.. grow up, y'know? Become more than you were. You find yourself a good woman, start a family, get decent work, reconcile with your parents after realising that - just like you - they were products of their environment, lose that tunnel vision that shows you only the bad in faith - even if you never go back to being a believer. I'm sure we've all been there to some extent and come out more-or-less whole at the end. Something, however, has kept the denizens of SA's Politics forum firmly fixed in that position. For those in the know, is it the case that there is a very significant trans population in there? I can imagine that if you've made such drastic changes to your body that it's now impossible to move about the world without eyebrows being raised, mellowing out could be forever off the cards.
