I blame a lot of that on just the way media in general is made these days- Everything almost always needs to have that tongue-in-cheek feel to it and I blame a lot of it on the MCU's success. And animation, has fallen victim to it the worst, as TCR! proves.

Of course, I'd also say that animation's always had that issue since the 90s, it's just that the modern shows forget that they balanced the ironic with the unironic and the quips with actual funny lines and exchanges.

And here’s another case of some Twitter fan artist doing a better job than the supposed professionals.

You do know that's not actually a storyboard?

What he's doing is making a general sketch of what the storyboard will look like. That's why he's doing it on a whiteboard. The actual board will be on storyboard paper, and will probably look more fleshed out than this.

I saw this shit go on elsewhere, and it goes without saying that the only people who are appalled by this don't actually know how animation works.

I had a feeling that wasn't the actual storyboard. Who even makes one on a fucking whiteboard of all things?

This shit wouldn't even fly in the actual 1980's.

If they wanted a series with goofy stylized characters, they would really have to put in far more effort in, even if it was just a pilot.

Everything about the series is so incredibly low effort and lazy that people wouldn't put it past them to be that fucking lax.

Nobody. Everyone who works in animation knows you use storyboard paper.

You might have also noticed on Twitter that someone posted a comparison of that photo with highly-detailed art saying "Then vs. Now." The "then" part, the highly detailed art, is not a storyboard - it's concept art, which is necessarily more detailed to give you an idea of how the show is supposed to look.

Most of these writers grew up watching Joss Whedon's shows.

Shills can't get enough of "Roar", taking time to state anyone who doesn't care for this sort of style infecting animation are nerds still living in their mommies' basements that are obsessive superfans of the original.

I wonder if this guy is just saying this to not get 'blacklisted' for wrong think since he's an animator?
I can't wait for the day 20 years from now when these Cal-arts, bean mouth woketoons get rebooted with good animation, appealing and attractive character designs, and good old fashion violence for solving problems.

They''re going to be killed by the Land of The Rising Sun just like Hanna barbera was in the 1980's.

Yeah you can say Scooby Doo and a few select others found life become the 70's and 80's, but shit like Jabberjaw and scores more died by the hand of japanese animators and the proto-weebs.

Netflix, HBO Max, and even Disney+ are getting deals done in japan to bring anime over to their streaming services. Amazon is even making an attempt.

Okay so this may be off-topic, but this whole "blacklistiing for spouting the wrong opinions" thing. Is it an actual thing?

Yes, and you also can't constructively criticize someone else's work especially if you're lacking a skin color, because if you're the wrong tone no criticism is deemed constructive from you.

Also any minority characters being criticized is an especially high crime because those characters are too personal to be judged

Read up on what happened to moana, they had fucking 3 whole minority councils and eventually many of the heads got sick of it because none of them understood animation.

So this is the animation industry now, wow. How disappointing.

No, but if you act like an ass towards people and you want to make it in animation, people aren't going to hire you.

That's why I would generally advise keeping your opinions about people's creative work away from them. If you're on Twitter, for example, don't send them notices about how "your show sucks." There are things I truly despise and would rant about for ages that I would never ever mention in this presence of the people who made them.

Unfortunately I don't work in productions, I only rub elbows with a bunch of industry workers who told me these jobs are a game of leapfrog from project to project. (That's why almost every project has veterans from Spongebob, AT, and now SU. They get passed around, hence the similar styles.) None of them have told me if the blacklist is true for opinionated spergs, but it IS true for employees who've had MeToo allegations, don't play by the higher-up's rules or, in GlitchedPuppet and Shmorky's cases, did FUCKED UP things on a public scale that their "friends" washed their hands of them.

The only one I saw who projected this bullshit the loudest was Atla Hrafney, some comic writer chick who, like Glip, constantly blabs on and on about positivity and inspiration when she comes off as a nasty bitch.

(She also made this tweet about "talent is cool, being a nice person is cooler", which I KNOW is BS because John K. and Jhonen Vasquez were jerks who got their creations made for TV.)

What you can and can't do in and out of the studio is all covered in your contracts anyway. If you want to be on the safe side, don't be like Mr.Enter and go off unfiltered, just discuss stuff offline with your friends. They can't pin "problematic" stuff on you if you never shared it online. Or do what most of my friends do and give brief opinions and move the hell on with your day.

Well, of course, I wouldn't do that, I'd have to be a dumbass to do that sort of thing in public, or at least on a professional main account for work and a side for other stuff, not even for rants because that's just private matters.

So basically just don't be online or share anything that isn't short of a portfolio, got it.

Well you're already going against that by being on Kiwifarms, my good fellow. 🚬
Just do what makes you happy. Being an artist, being a cartoon sperg, being BOTH! Live free or die.

BACK ON TOPIC THOUGH, the Twitter storm around this is heating up and all I'm hoping for is they don't Streisand Effect this like TTG and make 6 seasons and a movie.

I'm well past the no online thing, but I haven't posted stuff on social media in months so whatever.

Now while I don't want this show to be the next TTG, I do have to admit that the movies were pretty good, and I don't know if the show has gotten better. I can't even tell where TCR can even improve.
