Because he is appealing, basically. He had these decorations and they were removed.

I don't know if it still accurate, but previously when you guilty of military crimes they could strip all over decorations, rank, and ribbons. After sentence was served, some or all might be reinstated. If they are not returned you could request a review board to decide if you get them back or not.

I'm kinda hoping it passes, the power for the Executive branch to engage in not-really-war outside congressional boundries is a bad idea, has been for the last 30 years, but it will be particularly amusing when the future left laments that now they, the Congress, have to put their names on those action policies and approve them (which will be on THEM if the op causes inconvenient casualties) and start affecting THEIR reelection chances because they can't just pin it on the Pres anymore for cheap virtue signalling or chickenhawk posturing.

Growing up privileged and safe in the most progressive country in the world. Turns out, when you don't have any external survival challenges to contend with, your brain will make up a bunch of non-threats for you to get whipped up over. Also, a lack of amygdala exercise all but guarantees that when any of these ivory tower dwellers do get excited, they'll wig out to maximum level since all threats will seem equally important to them. Henceforth, a formerly taboo practice like cannibalism will seem like a reasonable course of action to take because WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE IN NINE YEARS FROM THE GREENHOUSE GASSES IN TRUMP'S FARTS!!!!!!!!

Through groupthink, they convince themselves that their ideas are right, then they conflate rightness with goodness, and finally they seek to impose their wills on a populace that "doesn't know what's good for them." These are the sorts who unironically claim to be on the "right side of history," and whenever their ideas are soundly rejected (Brexit and Trump being the biggest modern rejections), they view their opposition not only as stupid, backwards, and wrong, but also evil. Look at that leaked Google meeting from shortly after the 2016 election where one of the execs vowed to make the populist revolts of 2016 "a blip in history," or something along those lines.

These are people who unironically wish for a group of philosopher kings (ideally themselves) to lead humanity forward, because the little people clearly can't be trusted to make the right decisions. Almost like they want their leaders to be some kind of...master race.
