so its a race now to see what happens first USWSH adding all the mons back, or having a hacker take time to convert the USM models and fix all the issues with that models textures and animations being glitched in import in a Project M style mod, and we are off.
If I worked at GF I would be blasting this in the offices as we worked on it at this point

Completed it after 17 hours. It wasn't too bad, honestly didn't see many broken animations or "jump" as an attack. The new way the pokedex recommends and tracks where to go and catch pokemon is nice, but the end-game of the wild area is sort of hit/miss. Sure, I can ride around catching random pokemon I haven't gotten so far, but it's completely up the air, and even more-so with the dynamax encounters.

Sending pokemon on jobs to give them XP is nice, but camping is fucking horrible. I know how broken having a maxed relationship with a pokemon was in the past; free crits, surviving one-shots etc, but it's just not worth grinding berries and food for. Also kind of dog shit that you need to catch new dynamax pokemon to be able to do so post-game. A grind atop a grind.

That gunshot you heard was the last argument in favor of this being anything than a shameless rushjob killing itself.
I just want to know how they made it a rush job when they had enough employees and enough fucking time to make a finished game.

You had all the 3ds models as well as generic trainer models being re-used. That cuts down on time A LOT. On top of more than a year of time with 200 employees.

In comparison that was more resources than The Witcher 2 had when it started.

Question is if this will actually damage the franchise or if the Madden/COD effect is in play.

The same people who shit on Fifa and COD for being "more of the same cashgrabs" are the same ones buying pokemon and saying that game freak is special while it's okay to shit on Activision because the former is a small indie company.

Neat thing about flat buffer manipulation like that: I bet this game sees enduring popularity in the speedrunning community because whipping up a proper open-world randomizer is going to be piss easy if the event scripts are anywhere near as easy to modify.

If the game just spat you into the wild area with completely random mons available and all gyms accessible with their ‘challenges’ just replaced with a short, difficult trainer gauntlet of whatever their type was and challenged you to finish as fast as possible, it would legitimately be really enjoyable even with all of this gen’s bullshit problems. Pokémon where you can have the entire full-game experience in a 3-hour session where you’re forced to improvise strategy on the fly based on what you find sounds like a blast especially given how you can pick and choose encounters this gen.

Reminder that Gamefreak also released TOWN this year.
Yeah that game that I bet you already forgot. They took away half their company to make it, and most people say it was shit.
Hopefully the modding scene will cause Nintendo to do some investigating of how competent game freak are as a developer because the sales are sadly doing well.

What's a worst case scenario behind this game design and the choices Game Freak made? Could it be possible that they might add in microtransactions which allows you to buy the full national Dex one pokeman at a time? Pokemon go did alright in the microtransaction department from what I've read and that seems to be the companies direction of the fans they want to cater to. I'm curious if they would go full ham into that model on this gen and removing half of them was just a shekel scheme? If so I wouldn't be surprised that the fans would blindly buy the national Dex like that one Mon at a time even after arguing that the game is somehow better without it.

Wait is that out already?

The microtransaction is the Home membership.

So it officially happened., someone decided to set themselves on fire outside a Gamestop, in protest of Game Freak's changes in Pokemon Sw/Sh. Hope he actually didnt set himself on fire. His tweets are pure gold.

Looks like Jim Sterling gave his own hot takes on the issue, but he only really talked about “Dexit” and ignored issues like the game breaking auto save or names of unused Pokémon being found in the code.

Well, Dio has always been autistic, so this is the next logical step.

Even GameXplain was uncucked enough to have a guy on to say that it felt like you could beat the game by walking forward and pressing A repeatedly.
People who say that didn't get to Nessa's water gym and take Razor Shell to the face from her Dreadnaw. I barely survived that fight 6-3 with level & type advantaged pokemon.

GameFreak really reminds me of Blizzard right now, they keep implementing new systems or features and give them up almost as quickly as they build them. Regardless, I felt a little genuine hype fighting the first gym leader when the crowd starts cheering, the music plays and you both Dynamax for the first time(in the story at least). Probably an achievement of sound design more than anything, but it's a nice moment even if it's just Z-moving under a new name.

The microtransaction is the Home membership.
I get that, but it could get worse. Just consider Mario Kart World Tour. It was regarded by several people as some of the worst microtransactions behind an EA game to date.

What's to say that the lack of the national Dex isn't just a scheme to eventually sell it back to idiots who will pay for it? The avenues to do it with something like DLC for Zelda Botw already exist or DLC for smash brothers. The weird PR up until this point seems like they are bitting their tounges and I haven't seen anybody directly ask if they have DLC or anything for it like that planned.

Holy shit, it’s like the Pokemon version of Rufus.

I'm sorry, I know this is off-topic, but I just can't get over the fact that Dragapult, the game's pseudo-legendary, has a base speed of 142. Couple that with its base 120 physical attack, and you have a mon that hits incredibly hard, and incredibly fast. It's a glass cannon, sure, but still. Thank god GF at least had the sense to not also give it Shadow Sneak.

The stat power creep this gen is real but most of the new Pokemon have horrible movesets. Corviknight is literally a better Skarmory with pressure BUT it doesn't have shit like spikes or whirlwind. Also it actually has nasty plot and good special STABs but only 50 something special attack.

I'm actually sort of enjoying this gen but fuck GameFreak for snapping all the good capture Pokemon. Smeargle, Parasect, and Breloom all got removed. The fairy mushroom is the only spore user left and I couldn't find anyone that can learn False Swipe and Yawn at the same time this gen. That and the fact that hard to capture Pokemon seemingly got much harder to catch is giving me cancer.
