You seem to keep a good track on CA, i found out the reason of NChicks leaving but nothing about Phelous, is there any good ol' drama behind it? I can't find jack shit about it... Not that he was a favourite, i didn't care much for the bootleg zone, but he could dig up some insane animated "films" wich i appreciated.
Why did the NChick leave? I haven't heard about that

She got other stuff she wanted to do, i read about it in her blog or something, no drama, she still got some videos to make for Channel Awesome.

My big three right now are Taco-man, Jontron, and the new addition to CA, 'Toons These Days. Doug has been hit-or-miss with what he reviews lately (I'm not really interested in Matrix month), I'm more interested in hearing Brad in DVR Hell than Snob (The new site design is ass with this), Spoony I have to check in on his site to see if he posted anything and Todd just seems to be slowing down.

"Toons These Days" is really clever idea. Doggy makes a good point on how toons used to wear drag all the time (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tom and Jerry, etc) so why is She-Zow (or whatever the show's called) such a big deal?

Well, it goes either one of two-ways.
1) It pisses off Transpeople because it makes fun of the idea of a guy acting like a girl, kinda like TBBT does to nerds.
2) It pisses off feminists because the powers are all based around girly-cliches. Now, considering these powers came from his grandmother (I think), it could be that they are more a period of their time and did not change to reflect the evolution of how women are supposed to act in society. They're meant to be out of place and outdated if that's what the creators intended.

Never watched it myself, but I was a big fan of CyberSix back in the day. You know, a show where a female superhero disguises herself as a male teacher, has to fend off a schoolgirl crush and deal with her romantic feelings towards a male teacher. Awesome, awesome show.

Yup.

Something to do with Michaud being a dick to him regarding effects work on one of their movies.

Apparently Oancitizen has left too now, likely to be with Lindsay who tolerates his shit.

I was actually under the impression he was one of the saner people involved in the site - if it hadn't been for him, Doug would have likely have accidentally killed the site four years ago by posting a "HOW DARE YOU NOT LIKE MY AWESUM VIDEO?!?!" rant after the justifiably bad reaction to "Let's Play Bart's Nightmare" - but I guess he's just as much a dickbag as any other self-imagined bigshot producer.

Not really, Doug is way too passive according to another TGWTG exile, JesuOtaku. Mike's the dickbag, Rob Walker is passive aggressive and Doug just stands back and hopes he doesn't get involved as he's too pussy to upset people as Doug Walker.

I know that She-Zow also pisses off conservatives as well because he's cross-dressing. It's interesting you mention CyberSix, I'm surprised that one got away with what it had.

I've always like Phelous and his little group of friends like Welshy, Lupa and Panda more than the main TGWTG group like Nostalgia Critic and Chick. They've always felt like they had more fun with their videos and weren't trying so goddamn hard for a joke or twenty minute skits. I could never stand the skits most of the 'reviewers' ever did, I'd mostly skip to the actual, y'know, review, or just not watch it. That started happening with Doug after he came back despite saying he was leaving. The shtick was exactly the same, except instead of seeing anyone have fun I just felt everything was forced and way too scripted. Having a script is essential, and helps you keep an episode from lagging and becoming nothing but a giant rant most of the time, but this isn't Hollywood. The egos of these people always get in the way when they 'expect' to be paid, not just bringing up a Patreon and moving on with their lives or continuing the quality of their videos.

I've never felt harassed from when Phelous or Lupa brought it up because it shows for a minute at the end credits. Brad makes movies with his gang but I'm not told I'm being unsupportive if I don't buy or watch any of them. Linkara's absolute rage about how you're not a true fan unless you pay people to not properly review things made me realize everyone's beef with him and I just can't stand watching his stuff anymore, even though he used to be one of my favorites. Finding out more about his true image makes you really think how fake these people are just to keep pretending they're something they're not.

TGWTG changed in the worst ways and didn't change in beneficial ways. I've seen the same spiel, over and over, sandwiched between really long uninteresting skits about some 'show' these people put in the beginning and ends of the video. They think they're A Movie celebrities, or will be soon, yet they don't try to improve, change, or just treat their work like they actually enjoy it for anything but money. Now there's this giant flood of new 'reviewers' that Rob and Doug promoted and I can't tell anyone apart and haven't bothered to. I only watch Phelous and Snob because I'm reminded that I can watch something that's fun, that was made by people having fun.

The only good one of the new lot of people that joined up is Shark Movies as far as I'm concerned, and that's just because it's so stupid I have to laugh.

Doug actually was going to make the video I was talking about - albeit in-character, rather than as himself - he admitted as much in either the commentary for LP Bart's Nightmare or one of his "Top 11 Fuck-Ups" videos. Rob tried to talk him out of it, but Doug wouldn't listen. It eventually took Mike flat-out vetoing the video and telling Doug that he would piss off his fanbase so badly that it would probably kill the character, and possibly even the site itself in the longer run.

In fact, between that and his dream project Demo Reel turning out to be a universally despised piece of crap, it wouldn't surprise me if Doug just decided "Oh well, I'm clearly not qualified to make the big decisions, I'll just let Mike and Rob run the site, and focus on making Nostalgia Critic from now on."

Exactly. He would have done it in character as the Nostalgia Critic. Real Doug is too passive without his 'It's a character, lighten up!' shield.

From the accounts I've read, they seem to imply Doug isnt a douche himself, he's just surrounded by douches and doesnt like conflict. He also is a major workaholic, to the point that he'll often skip meals and sleep to get things done, but see that as a normal aspect of working.

So essentially a decent guy that works himself too hard and has trouble standing up for himself

Well, it was partially Canadian. We're kinda weird like that. We get the uncensored version of Beast Wars with more violence, but have to change the name to Beasties because BW is too violent of a name. YTV pulls Power Rangers because parents find it too violent, and then use CAPTAIN POWER AND THE SOLDIERS OF THE FUTURE (makes you want to slit your wrists) and VR Troopers (more violent source material) as replacements. America gets Gundam SEED edited to death because they want to sell toys to kids, we get it uncensored and get to air the sequel.

Cybersix got a lot of airtime on Teletoon, I think daily at the time compared to Saturdays on Fox Kids. I must have seen every episode at least 5 times as a kid. And you know what? It's one of those shows that I can look back on it and it only becomes more awesome.

While I disagree with him on Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters, TJ Omega did a pretty good rundown of the show. He even used the She-zow controversy to springboard into it.

Never got the whole "double standards" thing with the way Canada broadcasts shows.

Also, I thought those 4Chan threads pretty much came out and said "Doug's a douche".

Out of curiosity, has there ever been a time when you felt like an angry critic's anger was justified? I definitely don't blame Mr. Enter for getting upset at how "Tortouse Seashell Party's" message of it being ok for someone (Meg) to stay with and put up with a horrid, abusive situation just for the sake of false harmony. Or Linkara being disgusted with Lian Harper's death (it was a cheap ploy for shock).

Honestly, if there's a good reason for being angry at something and the person can be entertaining about it, I'm cool with it. Even if the anger is exaggerated for comedic effect, as long as there's a legitamite reason for it, that's cool. It's just those times when someone gets angry over something for no reason other than "if I act this way, I'll get popular". Hell, I know NC gets brought up a lot in this thread, but he hasn't really been all that "angry" when it comes to his reviews since his comeback. As long as there was effort put into the movie, he'll have some good things to say about it. He doesn't even hate The Matrix, he just thinks it's not the masterpiece some people make it out to be.

Yeah. The example you gave for MrEnter was one of the few times I felt that he was totally justified for getting upset as he did. That was a horrid plot twist.

It's mostly when the work goes beyond just being bad and goes into being insulting/offensive to its audience. Things like that animated Titanic movie where they made the disaster about some anti-whaling screed and nobody died, or Patch Adams misrepresenting the murder of a real person. But when the work is just mediocre and nothing else, the outrage seems very forced. The review may be amusing to watch, but there's a lot worse a work can be than just merely bad.

I feel for Spoony regarding Ultima 9.

Here's something better. When it came out, Freddy Vs. Jason got a PG13 rating in Quebec. See, Quebec has it's own ratings board and if I were to pawn my DVDs in Quebec, they have to have the Quebec rating.
