I think the real lesson of this thread is that Opie wasn't just a board operator on that show, he was the tard wrangler and although we didn't know it then; Anthony was the tard he was wrangling.

He basically saved Ant from himself for like 15 years, which now that we know how Anthony truly is we can appreciate how large of a feat that was. Opie got a pretty large lolcow to clean up his act, get a job and turn that job into a largely successful career.

Definitely and like a lot of Opie's work in hindsight...it was more subtle and difficult than it sounded. Opie could lead him off a racist tangent if it came up in the moment but Anthony was very hard to get a grasp on if he was determined to get into race talk. One of the worst ones was the eugenics rant.

You can just feel Opie throw his hands up and check out until he can sic the callers on him to try to pull him back. Then, Opie flat out questions Anthony about his obsessive focus on black people and Ant dodges the question by bringing up another video he watched. When Jim makes a point that could lead off the eugenics talk, Opie jumps in to agree with it and continuously tries to move it in that direction. When one of the callers flat out confronts Anthony, he starts getting upset and talking as if he's an esteemed scientist presenting evidence as opposed to a high school dropout who was rescued from a life at Apollo Air Conditioning by a longtime radio host. Opie had his work cut out for him. What was one of the first things Anthony did after being fired for tweets his employers deemed racist and violent? He went on a white nationalist radio show and ranted about how diversity wasn't needed at NASA.

The hosts seem shocked that he agreed to be a guest on their show and one even flat out states that being there is likely going to make his problems after getting fired even worse. At the time, people like Norton were making excuses for Ant doing the show like maybe he didn't know what type of show it was or his appearance was some kind of clever statement about how Sirius XM mishandled his firing. But, nope...he wasn't unaware or clever. He knew exactly what kind of show he was going on and told the hosts he'd love to hang out with them over beers since they were so on the same page about race. Opie was completely right to not fight for this idiot's job.

I think you've got rose colored glasses about tits. That fucking guy was the worst at his job. Stopping the funny in the room to go to callers, being such a cunt to work with, 'Rock Scream Tuesday'? Like come on man, Opie is a tard also.,

If you like any Opie and Anthony that isn't a Patrice segment or jocktober, you're a dipshit. That show was for people that were too dumb for Stern

Looking back, I would be willing to put a lot of the "stop the funny in the room" down to a hypersensitive "oh, shit. Gotta reel in Ant before he says what he thinks" sense. For every 3 times he got it right, there were 7 times he got it wrong

At best, it’s a thin line between comedians and lolcows. Whether you think Anthony is funny or not, the best comedians tended to be fucked up and a fuckup.

Jocktober is still good to listen to. Really Jim Norton and Patrice riffing with ant made it funny. Patrice talking about movies and current events was some of the smartest shit you'll ever hear from anyone.

Opie wasn't funny and was just as bad as the people featured in Jocktober.

Opie's job was to be the bad guy. To keep the show flowing. To get out of bits before they became stale. To clear stuff out and make time for guests and commercials and all the other stuff that likely was contractually obligated to be done by the show.

Days where he wasn't in were a rambling mess. Sure, it led to some funny stuff (Patrice's Lady Gaga rant is legendary) but overall they stuck on topics way longer than they should and the show meandered because there wasn't somebody sitting back gently pushing the show to certain places. Dumb bits like "Rock Scream Tuesday" were little things inserted by Opie so that he could break up the show and regroup because it isn't a podcast where you can just ramble on for hours at a time. It's radio.

Now, was he particularly good at that job? Not really. He was pretty heavy-handed at times and the listeners noticed. But, in hindsight, I see why he did that.

I disagree, here's an example of when Opie wasn't present, aka NOPIE. It actually flowed better to me.

Opie was cancer and should have gotten AIDS and died years ago.

The incredibly sad thing about this is the fact that Anthony's obsession with race is more than likely his way of compensating.

It's very obvious that Anthony is not fully white. He has to have a mixed ancestry, and knowing this has to bother him quite a bit.

You know I was going to rattle off this long winded response about why you're wrong until the very end. You are right, he was a little to heavy-handed at times and everyone noticed. What made it really bad is how he took criticism. The bit about him drowning on the beach is a great example of thinned skinned he is.

I agree with the negative things said about Anthony (primarily because he's his own evidence against himself) but I will say that his rants about and impersonations of Gene Simmons were pretty funny; Simmons is a lolcow in his own right.

He could have gave up the sub for 20,000
he could have closed it for ant for 5,000
but in the end, like all mods.
He does it for free

I'm curious as to whether or not anyone can get them to do like they did with KiA when a mod went apeshit and tried to kill that and have admins intervene and remove the mod and reinstate the board? r/OpieNAnthony is the exact same thing but thee's a shitload of content inaccessible on the original board.

I don't think I've ever seen a subreddit fall as fast as r/opieandanthony did. In the span of less than a week, the sub went from being as great as it's always been to being abandoned all because of one bad decision that a moderator decided to make.

The good news is that there is a new sub up and running. And it's operating to the level it was at before.

People have been posting a decent amount of content that they've saved to the new subreddit. Though we are still missing some. As far as I know the original sub hasn't been completely deleted, it's just been completely privatized.

I imagine if we give the mod in question some time to cool down he'll ultimately reopen the subreddit.

I just don't understand why he did what he did, he claimed it was because he didn't understand the Fat Pat memes or who he was, but the board had been targeting and making homegrown celebs out of nobodys for months at that point. I find it bizarre that he concluded that he needed to actively kill all Tomlinson discussion just because he didn't "get it", especially when he goes on to admit there in the Porsalin doc that he's fully aware the board would generally get board and move on from whatever had them agitated in time anyway.

There's no evidence he was blackmailed or anything by Pat or anything, it's just such a confusing, over the top response to something as simple as "I don't get it". Especially considering it was shit they had been doing with other, equally (and sometimes even less) notable people forever.

He's a retarded fat junkie. There is no good reason why.

Edit: I thought I had a stroke rereading this after I posted it. Why is the rslur changed to exceptional?

they thought about something like that and came to the conclusion that "the admins fucking hate us, do we really want to draw more attention to ourselves"

personally i think it'd be better to wait a couple of months and then do a redditrequest on it

At this point I think we just have to let it go. Everyone worth a shit already moved to the new sub anyways.
