I have said this before and ill repeat it since it has been awhile. I am still of the belief that Rial will throw Toye under the bus when the legal reality finally hits and if she gets the chance. As others have said, this kind of thing can test relationships and I just cannot see her wanting to die on this hill with Toye.

Very likely given Ron's IQ.

A lawyer can drop a client over irreconcilable differences in how to pursue the case. If Soye just ignores everything his lawyer says and keeps making things worse, that might happen because the lawyer feels his job is impossible.

Or he could just grit his teeth, know his client is going to lose if he keeps acting like a complete fucking moron, tell him that, take his money, and do the best he can while his client commits seppuku for woke point.

I just hope that dumb motherfucker ends up having to pay $1,000 each for every dumb fucking emoji he uses.

I'm not sure about in the US, but here it can be difficult for a lawyer to withdraw from a case once it has passed a certain point.

Not paying him is always good cause unless you're court appointed or something.

Generally, to withdraw as counsel, the lawyer has to file a motion and then it's taken into account exactly what's going on. You're not allowed to just drain a client of funds and immediately dump them, especially if it's obvious you were intentionally doing that.

But in general, if you aren't being paid you don't have to do shit. If it seems like getting paid is possible in the near future, they'll sometimes refuse to let the lawyer off and delay things a bit in the hopes of money showing up before forcing the party to proceed without counsel.

I'd pay good money to be a fly on the wall when their lawyer has his first come to Jesus talk with Ron and Monica.

Oh don't sell Ronnie short. He strikes me as a guy that will do her the very same courtesy if it'll save his ass some money. He's a male feminist. They all turn on their partners eventually.

Oh I agree that it is most definitely a possibility, but I only bring this up because I have doubts of Vic wanting to settle with Toye as much as he would Marchi or Rial. I would think that even if there is no longer a possibility of friendship to occur between Vic and the girls, he would maybe want to do this as some sort of last favor for old times sake(I know it sounds ridiculous, but Vic really did see those girls as his friends), but Ron? I do not think he has any real connection to Ron or any care of what happens to him(and probably has acted the worst of the 3).

My outside bet is the second round will be a federal lawsuit as you got Kaylyn, ANN, io9 and maybe even Allison Cooke.

I think they'll be in round 3 if at all. If they do get roped in, it will be because information comes out about individuals from round 1 and/or round 2 having contact with them as part of an effort to control the narrative. They don't have a lot of value themselves, but adding them into the suit at some point helps make the case against some of the bigger fish and could increase the damages. Any conspiracy (or even strong hint of one) between the writers of those articles and other defendants in the suit is going to be devastating.

There's not too much point in spending a lot of time going after them to try to collect damages. ANN can't afford to pay, and merely dragging their misdeeds into the light will be enough to wreck them. As a former Gawker property, io9 already had most of its value stripped away after the Hulk lawsuit, and Univision just sold the Gizmodo properties (which include io9) after eating huge losses with it.

Gawkering ANN wouldn't be hard and that domain is likely worth a lot of money. The website isn't but the domain itself has some fantastic stats and COULD actually make money if it was in different hands.

Nah, if anyone flips it will it will be Marchi. Out of everyone else she seems to be the only one with a functional brain. She shut up quick after the narrative turned. Her and Samantha Harte, but Harte did the swatting thing so that cost her some points on the IQ power level rating.

Well she has been letting Soye run amok all this time and has even been joining in on the fun, plus she let herself be represented by his lawyer...honestly I think they derserve to live in misery together.

Oh when it comes down to it, I think the traditional Mexican Standoff will be held a bit north of the border this year and/or next. As the Beard of Great and Mighty Justice descends like the Sword of Damocles, they are ALL gonna turn on each other I think. Funi to try getting some return (on the potential/upcoming judgement) from the others for sure. Marchi out of spite and the Bopsie twins because they are probably going to be blamestorming the others at F5 force. As an aside for Monica alone, she is probably gonna be extra pissed because Sony isn't coming to save them.

Gonna be a man-hatin' free for all.

Harte might be legitimately mentally ill (not in the hyperbolic sense we tend to use around here). Several people mentioned that when the fake swatting thing happened. Now that could have been her supporters just saying that to get people to lay off, but I'm not even sure Funimation casts her in anything anymore.

Their hug box will tolerate an extreme amount exceptionalism, but even they tend to shy from absolute insanity and substance abuse. See, e.g. Amanda Winn Lee.

Well, Nick mentioned on his last stream that you could just ruin their credit (especially in the case of MarzGurl). Make them liquidate their shit. They will do try to pull this shit again if they're not stopped and they see the opportunity.

While looking to see if she's been in anything lately I found this:

On the one hand, Marchi's been the quietest after the initial chimpout, which might make her the one most likely listening to counsel and most likely one to flip. Of the four people defendants, I think her networth might also be the lowest (which is further incentive to settle since she's less able to defend herself through a full trial).

On the other hand, she's the batty feminist type. The type to unironically shout "preach it sister!" and call people who disagree with some of her questionable scripts literal Nazis. It's one thing to tweet that, but she's said that, live, at con panels that I sat in on.

Yeah, it's one thing to want to stick it to such a moronic idiot, but another thing entirely when you need to foot the very expensive lawyer bills for the whole thing. Maybe if the GFM really blows up, but that's still a stretch.

Nick's tweet thread doesn't surprise me. Anyone who's worked for a company any more competent and well managed than a local McDonald's has surely read the rules about confidentiality. There's a very good reason why company policy is always 'do not discuss why someone is fired, don't discuss that you fired them at all (just say they don't work with you) unless you're HR, and good lord do not EVER leak confidential information to people outside of the company'.

These people keep sharing details about a supposedly private investigation - which shouldn't even be mentioned as happening - and Monica in particular has admitted to sharing that investigation with someone non-privileged like Ron, who turned around and plastered it everywhere. Monica SHOULD be fired from Funimation and unable to get a job in any position that gives her access to that kind of information anywhere else specifically because that kind of stupid and reckless behavior ends in lawsuits like this one.

If Funimation survives without restructuring at the end of this, I won't be surprised if Monica suddenly finds herself only getting voice roles in Funimation. Viz, Sentai, and anyone else shouldn't trust her at all after she got her company dragged into a million+ dollar lawsuit even if she ultimately wins (which is vanishingly unlikely).
