'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

This is easily the stupidest controversy that MAGAmongs have gotten excited about.

Of course the son of Joel Smollett gets away with making up a hate crime, wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars and several lives by interfering with the Chicago Police Department investigating the murders that happen every day in that shithole, and trying to get white men murdered with his lies.

Just like Epstein got away with his crimes, just like Ed Buck does.

Unlike Trayvon Martin, unlike Mike Brown, at least in Smollett's case no human was actually hurt, because no limit niggas don't GAF about some queer supposedly getting a beatdown. There were never going to be Ferguson style riots and murders for this poof.

That's what I was thinking. And a reread didnt improve things at all. It actually made it worse. It's certainly a contradiction to say it wasted CPDs time in investigating murders, and in the next breath that no humans were hurt.

I don't really care that much about regular scheduled murders in Chicago going unsolved, if some drug dealers kill each other nothing of value was lost. Only idiotic muh prison reform MAGAtards care about stupid shit like that. Pastor Manning don't care about shit like that.

I certainly do care if decent working people get assaulted by thugs over media manufactured anti-white outrage. This did not happen in the case of Smollett, because he is an unsympathetic figure to anyone with normal male levels of testosterone.

Actor Jussie Smollett’s lawyer suggested his client might take legal action after Chicago prosecutors dropped charges against the “Empire” star on Tuesday.

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos asked attorney Tina Glandian if she was “going to sue" in an interview Wednesday.
“We’re weighing our options now,” Glandian said.

“For Jussie, what’s really important is he really just wants his career and his life back,” Glandian said. “Again, he did not ask for any of this, he was a victim of a crime.”
Glandian didn't go into specifics about whom Smollett’s legal team could target in a lawsuit.
In a shocking turn of events Tuesday, Chicago prosecutors dropped all charges against Smollett after he had been indicted by a grand jury earlier this month on 16 felony counts of lying to authorities, prompting backlash from Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and police.

Smollett, 36, claimed he was attacked earlier this year in downtown Chicago by two masked white men who shouted racist and homophobic remarks at him on Jan. 29. Smollett, who is black and gay, claimed they put a noose around his neck and threw what he believed was bleach on him.
In February, the Chicago Police Department announced there was significant evidence that Smollett orchestrated a hoax attack, which was initially investigated by police as a hate crime. According to police, Smollett paid two brothers $3,600 to carry out the assault, and did so to advance his career.
Smollett has consistently said he is innocent.
“This has been an incredibly difficult time, honestly one of the worst of my entire life. But I am a man of faith and I am a man that has knowledge of my history and I would not bring my family, our lives, or the movement through a fire like this. I just wouldn't,” Smollett said in a statement after the charges were dropped Tuesday.
“Now, I’d like nothing more than to just get back to work and move on with my life but make no mistakes I will always continue to fight for the justice, equality, and betterment of marginalized people everywhere,” he said.
