So let's pretend I'm on the fence as to whether or not to see this movie. Consider this post a mini poll. Rate it thumbs up if I should see it and thumbs down if I shouldn't.

I literally don’t know why the Disney shillers online are acting smug about Captain Marvel performing well just to piss off those who weren’t interested in seeing it to begin with.

Well because at the end of the day it seems this movie has turned into a weapon against "The Trolls" who see this movie as a possible infiltration of another franchise that is going to experience the culture wars that consumed Ghostbusters, Star Wars, Star Trek, and many others and see it as a victory. Though this victory could be great or it could be Pyrrhic, we won't know until the second week and after Endgame.

I can’t really tell what the second week will be like, though the movie wasn’t toxic enough to fuck up Endgame.

I wouldn't expect it which is why I said post Endgame. Though probably most of my disdain towards this film is probably more directed towards the media than perhaps the film itself as with most of these things. Though this film did do something very right, it got some media shills to admit they will softball criticisms of some films to keep cozy relations with film companies. For me, even though it is a no-dip, it is still nice to get some truth out of a media that will often lie or give half-truths not for some bullshit political agenda, but for keeping their damn jobs like the cowards they are.

Like the film itself isn’t awful, far from it, it was the damn virtue signaling that made it appalling.

However, I think having a better director would have made the film a lot better. Kathryn Bigelow would have been a better choice at Director.

I can't imagine Bigelow would work well in the constraints that come with doing one of these Marvel films. I imagine it would be an Edgar Wright situation all over again. I agree that she would have theoretically made a better movie, but would Disney/Marvel have allowed her to make it. Marvel tends to steer away from auteurs.

I'm not gonna see this until it's on home media, and I don't know if that'll be before End Game. Could someone please tell me what we know/learn/see in this which seems like it'll be something I'd "need to know" ?

Because everything is a Chick tract for liberals now. "HAW HAW, we won! You didn't!"

like I give a fuck that Disney is destroying themselves by pinning their multimilliondollarfranchise on such a shitty actress

I wonder how long before they turn on Captain Marvel when someone brings up Monica Rambeau getting the shaft for a white woman.
Edit: Well, well...I Love Comics put this up to start the ball rolling

Well, the whole "See Alita as a protest over this movie" business was probably equally retarded. Even a channel I generally respect (Nerdrotic) was pushing it.

FWIW, haven't seen Captain Marvel, won't see it in the theater. Though I am curious if this box office success means we're now going to get an unironic One Punch [Wo]man ending to Avengers: Endgame and hence as an ending to whatever "MCU Phase" we're currently supposed to be in. (Three? Four? Does it matter?)

Most likely, if Captain Marvel can keep momentum. Many at Marvel could view this as a "vindication" of their ideological views and thus try to force their message into future MCU films. It will be interesting to see what happens after Endgame. As for me, Captain Marvel was never a priority. I have so much money for movies and with Shazam, the aforementioned Avengers: Endgame, Detective Pikachu, John Wick 3, Godzilla: King of Monsters, and Spider-Man: Far From Home on the horizon, what reason do I have to have to see another generic cape film?

Hell, I see Sonic the Hedgehog as having more to offer through mere morbid curiosity alone.

That's a pretty big "if" considering that we don't even have real numbers from the opening weekend yet. I was a little more optimistic about CM's performance than some people here, but the $300 mil foreign opening is pretty fucking suspicious.

Well, to be fair, Captain Marvel's backstory is actually quite F'd up and has plenty of avenues to explore to make her more tragic.

I mean, she was taken prisoner, brainwashed, had her memory erased, and then used as a weapon for the bad guys for six years. Basically, her life was erased and she more than likely has blood on her hands because she was a hitman for the Kree. That puts her in a position where she finds out the life is a lie, her existence is not what she thought it was, and she has to redeem herself for the bad things she was forced to do.

Of course the movie doesn't maximize the potential of any of this material, but hey.

We dont realy have numbers to begin with. there is one website 90% of articles are based on, and they arent that good with estimated stuff. they just look at some cinemas and the number for screens for these numbers, The estimations from europe are pretty wrong most of the time and asia is pretty much a black box,
