There's still a shit ton of reviews missing on RT and a lot of the new ones appearing seem repetitive or are actually just copy/pastes. Several are rating it 5 stars but only say something like "it was okay...", "its fine" or "meh" which makes them come off like IGN reviews, but I'm starting to think it might be intentional as a few are saying that they're giving it 5 stars but with bad reviews because RT is deleting their low-star reviews.

On a side note, I really don't see this film "bombing" despite how much I want to see Brie eat shit. In the US it might not do as well as expected but the fucking Chinese will eat this garbage up, and most non-english speaking countries who didn't pay attention to Brie's english retardation and have a better dub over her bland dialogue may end up actually having a far better experience with the film if they have a VA who can actually emote.

Looks like Captain Marvel is tracking towards a $160 million opening (Of course, the media has to take a dig at trolls.)

I don't know why this perturbs me as it's just another boilerplate Marvel film. Maybe it's because I'm a DC fanboy that's ass-hurt that it looks like it will outperform (at least out the gate) Wonder Woman, or perhaps it's my dismay over the polarized state of popular culture, or a combination of both.

$160 million is expected at this point, what with a lot of theaters not showing anything else this weekend. Besides which, my enjoyment (or lack thereof) of a film will never be colored by how much a film makes. CM can go on to make a billion dollars and I still would think Brie was woefully miscast and everyone else helped salvage the film into okay territory.

Was there ever a source on this? KiA said it a lot but the comments were half saying it was true and the other half saying it wasn't and they were making everyone look retarded for trying to say it was. I assumed it wasn't but has there actually been reports of theaters going through with it?

Take a look at almost every theaters list of showtimes: Captain Marvel generally dominates with usually 3 to 20 times the number of daily showings -- mostly closer to 10x most of its competition. Only latest Madea and How Train Dragon seem boast large numbers of screens, and neither, generally again, reach a 1/3 of CMs total daily screenings, and usually the disparity is even greater. In my area half of all svreens are dedicated to CM in all the large multiplexes save one.

I started to crunch some numbers illustrate the lopsided CM showtimes earlier today but lost interest. If anyone wants to go all anal autist that could make for some fun graphs.

The number of screens dedicated might work against them a bit, as there are numerous reports that Friday night screenings were empty, some with only 1 person un the theater. They own the media, so I doubt they lose, but the reality they've painted so far, and will continue to paint, is definitely bunk. Expect attacks on sexist MAGA trolls to intensify as the 2nd weekend Numbers drops out from under them.

Honestly, these people clearly just want to continue living in a fantasy world where everyone who doesn’t like Captain Marvel is just a woman-hating incel, and thus want to convince themselves that that’s the case.
I remember a time when "people who don't like a movie I like are people I don't like" was not considered a reasonable argument.

Between this and that weebgate thing, I'm so sick of these "culture wars."

Something that's sticking in my craw is a review that says Captain Marvel made effective use of the "signature Marvel formula". How many times was that exact thing the criticism of previous entries?
"It really makes you feel like you're Captain Marvel"

If the movie's politics are that overt, there can be backlash in the Chinese market. They have this piece of internet slang called baizuo, meaning "white left." It's not that they don't mind progressive politics, it's rather they don't like it when creators use those politics to boost their own egos. Especially if those creators are white, since then it's seen as "mighty whitey believing they have to show other peoples the right way" or "Western Imperialists tell us how to think." Disney Star Wars films are notiorious for being seen as baizuo, which in turn contributed to their failure in that market.

if the bad reviews are from sexist trolls
then how the fuck can one explain the reviews for Wonder Woman or even 2001's Ghost World or Captain America Pt2 with Black Widow.
or how about Batman V Superman, does that mean those bad reviews are trolls and the movie is actually good
or how about Ghost Rider, Green Lantern, or the last Fantastic Four movie with 3 male leads and 1 woman
or even the Iron Fist Netflix show

And of course there is trolls but is there data numbers of how much are sexist trolls or trolls in general
cause if there is no true data numbers then I can use the "Troll narrative" on any movie or media content that is bad

We hear this same sentiment every time a much maligned movie is released.

My take is that the more superhero films there are, the less likely I am to care about ones that rate as "okay" and "fine." Its Disney. Of course there's going to be a minimum level of competence put into their films. Is "minimum competence" enough to get my butt into a theater? Fuck no. I want to be surprised. I want to be delighted. I want to see something I've never seen before. At the end of the day Captain Marvel is nothing more than MCU template film #20.

I don't quite understand it myself. You have people who argue over the bad state of a film, and yet they go and watch it on the big screen anyway. Like, "Dude, can't you just WAIT?" You don't have to feed The Mouse your money over what is established as an average movie; just exercise a little patience until it's out on a streaming service and see it then.

This is from a guy who thinks a large portion of the capeshit people regard as "AAA" nowadays is due to eroded standards of entertainment. I don't need to bust out the cash just because every other fool is parting with it.

Define "progressive." After all, one shorthand summary of the Chinese censors' position is "no ghosts, no gays-" they're still nominally communist, but in the classic "workers of the world unite!" way, not the "I identify as a building respect my pronouns and smash capitalism shitlord" way. And even then, it's more or less a facade for an oligarchy (or aristocracy, if you prefer) that runs the country.

Do you think "Captain Marvel is like the strongest ever" is going to be the new "Black Panther is about how Africa would be a technological utopia without whites and blacks need to rise up"?

Some meme every critic thinks is in the movie but it's just them describing the fanfic they made in their head before even seeing it.

Is now. Idk why that one guy said "Thanos is fucked!" or why like 13 people after him reiterated it, literally nothing she does in the movie suggests it. Unless Thanos just decides to turn into like 13 shitty spaceships and she smashes into them and that's how Endgame ends.

Not going to lie, they'd have my attention if he transforms himself into the Thanos-Copter like the final boss of some parody RPG.

I doubt they will be making any money with this movie. Cinemas dont dedicate half their screens to one movie for nothing, and the outcry will be heavy if it realy flops.

Those pictures of the cinema remind me of the only movie i ever saw alone in a cinema(couldnt get friends or family to go see it).
I had a great time that Day, Solaris was realy good and i smoked a couple of very nice joints with the barkeeper while drinking free Wine and eating free popcorn.

Women cannot have opinions deviating from the hive mind, it has to be internalized misogyny!
That is rich. A dude telling a (possible?) feminist that she has internalized misogyny. Sounds an awfully lot like gaslighting to me.

Well, in the case of the AH.com poster that said it in the attachment I provided, they are feminist MCU zombie who will believe anything the studio tells them as long as it aligns with their ideology.
