I love how it went from “it’s gonna gross Black Panther money SLAAAAY” to “oh it’ll surpass GOTG2, which was shit”

You know if they're really going to have Carol be the one to defeat Thanos in endgame, then maybe at least have Tony or Steve or maybe even both sacrifice themselves by holding down Thanos so Carol can deliver the final blow on all of them. I don't know if that'd really be the best way to send Tony and/or Steve off, but it has to be better then letting Carol hog all the spotlight because "Men suck, Women rule!".

Welp. The critics are predictably at it again. Captain Marvel currently has a 91% Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 68 reviews in. Not shocked in the slightest.

If those spoilers from 4Chan are true, then ... Yeah, it's a movie undeserving of a high rating from critics.

I wonder what rating the “bots” (ie people with a different, icky opinion) will give it

This film getting to the 90s in RT was expected, the box office is where it will hurt them if people are being real and skip this one.

It's 90% already with less than 100 reviews in. i think there's a decent chance it falls into the mid 80's because "muh vagina" doesn't scare people nearly as much as the race card does.

Of course its RT score is in the 90s.

It is a Disney/Marvel/Female led movie.

That is a tri-powered shield that no critic can resist.

:story: It’s not Woke enough! I fucking love these unappeasable assholes, thank you for proving that pandering to you is a fruitless effort that always backfires.

I am really shocked at how Avengers Endgame has an April 26th Release Date. That means that Captain Marvel has a little more than a month and a half as being the big Marvel movie and let's be real there's going to be way more hype for Endgame two weeks prior before launch then there will be for Captain Marvel.

It seems to me that Disney does not have much confidence in this movie to begin with. For absolutely sure though it's not going to be Black Panther which had a 3 month box office run.

Oh, that's a point. I thought Endgame was out in June. I didn't think they usually put movies barely one month apart.

What, you're expecting critics to actually be critical!?

RT is a binary system. If you read the blurbs, a lot of "Fresh" reviews are very tepid. Compare RT with something like Metacritic, where the score actually reflects the reviews:

68%. D+, but also "Fresh" on the Tomatometer.

I'd love it if Video Games were on Rotten Tomatoes. Almost every game would be 95 Percent Fresh.

Reading some of the reactions from mcu shills, fucking losing their shit over a couple of "meh" reviews is the funniest thing, just for that I hope the film fails, the meltdown would be interesting to see.

It was going to happen one day anyway, as much as Feige and his cap claim they can do these films for even more years after Endgame, nothing last forever. Downey, Evans, Hemsworth can't do the same shit forever and unlike DC where the characters are more iconic than the actors portraying them, the same can't be said about the MCU, people love Iron Man and Captain America because of the actors, not because of the characters, there's a reason they weren't that well known before. I just can't wait to see the day Disney recast Tony Stark to see the reactions.

If they’re gonna go all-in with wokeness after Endgame, they’ll probably keep RDJ’s Stark within the lore and just go ahead and introduce Ironheart or whatever the name of that black female Iron Man is.

I wonder how/if the reception would change for this movie if the marketing wasn’t garbage. When I saw the trailer for the first time I liked the whole “her” fading into “hero” part. it was quick and didnt shove anything down your throat. but after people started blowing the movie’s expected impact out of proportion and acting like this will be the epitome of feminist movies/statements it fucked everything up. This just looks like an average dumb superhero movie mostly here to set up Endgame and nothing more. It sounds weird, but it sucks that it didn’t get treated that way.

Charisma is one of the major elements to making a lovable character. Another element is the character acting like a human being, therefore allowing the audience to understand the character's motivations.

Tony Stark has gone through a 10-year character arc that has been awesome to see unfold. Yes, he can be an ass sometimes, but he's gone through some REAL shit, man.

Looks like all we're going to see with Carol is that "she has to prove that she's a strong wamen to everyone who doubts her, because she's just awesome and super strong like that."

That's not nearly as interesting as an "asshole billionaire inventor has to build himself a machine to get out of being held prisoner by terrorists, learning responsibility and accountability in the process."
I feel like we're never going to get a character arc like Tony's with Carol, because learning to shed the bravado, care about things and people, and protect those things is dangerously close to "women are emotional and nurturing" and that doesn't belong on a strong wamen character.

And even then the character doesn't work for everyone. Some people do hate Tony because he's a dick. Say you hate Carol because she's a dick and you'll be shouted down with "no you hate her because you're sexist"

By the way, almost every review I read say this movie is not a requirement for Endgame, is not a set up for Endgame nor it has big info on Endgame, so for those only wanting to watch it for Endgame, I'll skip it If I were you.
