I personally feel like with how complex the controls can be, and with it coming from DS controls, the tutorials make sense and the tracking sets up some world building. The other games had a lot of forced tutorials/annoying newbie missions too though, so I guess it was to be expected. But the tutorials in MHW skim over some important stuff (ie explaining how to find grimalkynes bc the scoutflies don’t automatically help you), which can be confusing and frustrating later on.

I still haven’t gotten around to the doing the grimalkyne stuff. How good are the nonhealing gadgets anyway? Also, what weapons did everyone end hp using? I settled on mostly using insect glaive. Did charge blade for a while but decided the guardpoint crap and spacing out the super attacks correctly was too fiddly for me.

@Corypheus I mained insect glaive in 4 and dual blades in gen, but having the little control list at the top of the screen in world has really helped with branching out! Gunlance, switch axe, and hammer are so much fun. Charge blade is definitely complicated! I kinda feel like it’d be better without the weak shield, but that’s just what switch axe is, so.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Grimalkyne items can turn a hunt around when you're soloing and help you earn more items from your hunts. I never use the healing item anymore, the others are just too good. In fact I actually like that the game doesn't hold your hand when it comes to obtaining these items. They feel like something you earned through exploring.

I've been using the bow. It takes a fair amount of skill and is fun to use.

My favorite Grimalkyne item is the one where my cat doesn't use it because I dodged out of his range and he had to run to me because he's a clingy piece of shit. He also keeps throwing the Meow-lotovs at me instead of the monster that is clearly there and angry. Very disappointed in him.

I use Greatsword mostly to sever tails and such. Otherwise I like the Gunlance -- it feels so alive.

Sounds like your cat just sucks, mate.

Best part about the bow - shooting a monster with dragon piercer in the head and cutting off its tail in one shot.

Not that I’m aware of? Only problem is I wouldn’t want to use my normal steam account since that would be an extreme act of :powerlevel:. If I make a side account and link the libraries, will it still show who the game is being borrowed from?

I'm necroing this thread. Anyone who isn't fucking Re-tarded up to kill the Ancient Leshen? Getting really fucking tired of these idiot Japs that can't get that this faggot isn't that hard. I use a Great Sword for fuck sakes.
PS4 btw.

Roll support bruh. Wide-Range 5, Recovery Up 3 and Gobbler 2/3. Fight is designed so that it's almost impossible if at least 2 players aren't able to heal everyone because it's very easy to get combo'd to death without being able to do anything with how much damage he does, his ability to attack anywhere he wants and the stupid faggot Jaggy's running around. Bring max mega potions and flash pods and the materials needed to craft more and just remember to flash
  1. your teammates out of pin (and pray to christ they do the same for you)
  2. the stupid jaggy hordes whenever he points someone out for them to attack
  3. his bird bomb move

It's not a difficult fight it's mainly just a battle of endurance since you've only 3 or 4 carts and he's got like 70k hp. Mainly it's just keeping everyone alive through the 4th and final part since it takes up half the fight and he's hitting you with everything he's got.

I do roll support, but damn near every group I've run with can't seem to get the concept of "dodge and attack from behind". The GS user is sitting there pulling 8 hit+ combos and the dumb dumbs force a fail after 3-4 carts. Wouldn't be so annoying if the AL didn't take 35-40 minutes to get anywhere close to killing.

You firing or joining SoS's? I've always do the former and my success rate with AL is something like 70%. Still a lot of retards but nowhere near as bad as something like AT Vaal or Teo.

Might have to switch to a weapon better suited for support and just focus on keeping everyone alive. If you're in part 4 and down to just one cart just run around spamming heals and flashbangs and killing the jaggys then farcast back to camp to restock if necessary. Status affects are really helpful against him since you can't sleep him and he's always on the attack. Mount first and foremost you can usually get up to 3 in a single run (remember he does the vine wave whenever someone's mounted on him though and his spergout "get off me normie" attack drains stamina super fast). Para and Stun are also useful though less so since he builds up resistance every time and the slinger ammo he drops works great too since it can give your teammates free attacks when he flinches.

If you're going greatsword abuse the jump off ledge slash attack since it seems to be pretty broken against him. A Jap group got him sub-7 minutes just by spamming it non-stop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXVHTsFVE0U.

Other than that it's mainly just rng. You gotta hope you get at least semi-capable teammates and that no one gets fucked by getting chained to death or whatever.

I want to get back into World but I did most of my playing on the PS4 from day one and couldn't link with my pals when it hit pc. Pretty much killed my drive to keep playing. Haven't even beaten the story again. Sucks because I've sunk so many hours into other Monster Hunter games.

I actually do main 4 weapons, Dual Blades, Switch Axe, Light Bow Gun and Great Sword. Recently switched to GS to make a point of the fact monsters are getting really overpowered but our opportunities to upgrade our gear is way too slim. Kept getting told "get gud" when I pointed it out, so maining it was more of a "fuck you" to those dumb fuckers. Has made me hell of a lot better at the game for sure, can't say the same for the groups I end up with though. AL honestly is easy, it's moves are are telegraphed as fuck, it just has a stupid amount of hp. DB got boring as fuck after 4 games especially after the last 3ds one where it was beyond broken, LBG is way too cheesy, Switch Axe is very fun, but knocking in monsters heads with a slow but super strong weapon is beyond satisfying.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is being released on the 6th of September for Xbox and Playstation, while the PC version is coming out sometime in the winter. They finally showed off some art with some of the new and returning monsters being included in the expansion/dlc.

Now with these additions the monster lineup looks a lot better. Among the roster is Fatalis, Gore Magala, Legiacrus, Valstrax, Nargacuga, Brachydios, Zinogre, Glavenus, Tigrex, and Seregios. Velkhana, Beotodus (Not Pictured), Banbaro (Not pictured) are being introduced in Iceborne. Iceborne is launching for 39.99 USD.

I was pretty hesitant from when they announced the expansion due to how many monsters they would be adding since the base roster was lacking. This is a good surprise though, its mostly fan service but its the best kind I think. I haven't played since the first Kulve raid on PC but I'm pretty excited for when this will drop. Most importantly Hot Drinks will be returning for the low low price of a brand new game.

Edit: I'm an idiot and this is just a render they put out recently apparently. It seemed a little too good to be true.

So I’m thinking about getting back into this game and I want to try something besides IG and GS. I’m leaning towards Gunlance or maybe one of the bowguns. Anyone got builds/recommended weapons for those, and keep in mind that I have absolutely no idea how the Kilbe Taroth stuff works, so some the really good shit may be a hit hard to get right now.

I stupidly followed Projared's recommendation for these games once, and they were the worst gaming decisions I ever made. Lost out even trying to resell them.

Kinda bitter about that and have grown to dislike the franchise because of it. Was the first ding against Jared for me too.

I’m a poorfag, so I’ll likely wait for an Iceborne discount. Though, I find some of the moaning about Iceborne’s pricetag to be kinda funny seeing as this is basically what Japan has been putting up with for 10+ years, you gotta remember that for them 3U, 4U, and GU were released AFTER their main release often on the same goddamn platform.

Jared’s a big nigger, but at the same time, while I do like MH, I can see why someone wouldn’t. It’s definitely an acquired taste for those who like roleplaying, grinding, and pragmatic combat that requires patience.
