'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

Exactly. I also missed any evidence of any hands being laid on Jussie.

I don’t think Jussie would have needed to make up any lies about a physical fight with a boyfriend or trick, he could have been a “brave advocate speaking out against domestic violence in the gay community.” Would have been a way smarter and believable ploy than sub-zero MAGA terrorists, but not gotten nearly as much media attention.
 
yesterday his instagram had tons of comments calling him a liar. Today, he has deleted every single comment and locked it down.

As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with. He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.

One of these purported suspects was Jussie’s personal trainer who he hired to ready him physically for a music video. It is impossible to believe that this person could have played a role in the crime against Jussie or would falsely claim Jussie’s complicity.

Jussie and his attorneys anticipate being further updated by the Chicago Police Department on the status of the investigation and will continue to cooperate. At the present time, Jussie and his attorneys have no inclination to respond to “unnamed” sources inside of the investigation, but will continue discussions through official channels.

My theory was that "Empire" is ending and he's stuck as the "Jamal Lyon" character. As an avid watcher of Empire: Lee Daniels would write Soap Opera's for all of "Jamal Lyons" beaus. His storyline's in the show were getting tired and played out, and FOX has gone on record in trying to shake up the show. It's been stagnating, and the Jamal Lyon "character"would be on the chopping block. Like the contracts signed for "Empire" also pertain to music as well, and after the show is gone - he wouldn't really have a career left. This literally sounds like an "Empire" telenovela-type plot. A poor young black man walking the streets of chilly Chicago and two maga-terrorists try to lynch him and pour bleach on him, while shouting racial slurs at him.

The show is getting to the point of trying to kill off main characters for rating boosts and some people have hypothesized Smollet's fear of being given a pink slip.

Holy shit, this is so stupid. Even if it were true, that just opens up more questions like: Why wouldn't Jussie recognize his close friend? Why would they have wrapped rope around him? Why would they have brought bleach? Why didn't they actually kick his ass instead of pussy-boxing? Why would Jussie make up all this white-guy and Maga stuff?

There is no excuse that could be spun here, just confess and try to salvage a scrap of dignity.

He cannot confess. He has cost the city of Chicago tens of thousands of dollars in investigation costs alone. He may have also sent fake anthrax letters through the federal mail. His co conspirators were formally arrested for over a day and subjected to hostile interrogation by the authorities. If he confessed now he would be admitting to a string of felonies that could subject him to years in state and federal prison. He has to put his head down now and pray his lawyers can pull his ass out of the fire.

Maybe people are so giddy to see yet another fake hate crime being exposed? These fake hate crimes are the thing that is so common now, with news of hate crimes against white people and Trump supporters not only buried and diminished, but vocally encouraged from almost every media outlet.

The lying racist scumbag Jussie Smollett is getting his comeuppance and it's a good thing, it is literally justice being aptly served, but because their ever-phony narrative of violent white Trump supporters gets proven to be bullshit once again they try to avoid apologies or taking responsibilty and spurt out 'Trump's fault, not mine!'

We all should be celebrating the excellent police work that brought a scammer to heel! But no, orange man bad, police raciss, white people still at fault.
