'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

They had more detectives on this case than your avg Saturday night south Chicago gang shoutout plus the FBI.

Jussie should be billed for all of it along with all the liberals who blamed Trump supporters for weeks.
 
I wondered at the time why he picked 3 am during the polar vortex temps to pull this bullshit.

The idea anybody was out looking for a negro to lynch at 3 am in a swanky neighborhood when it was 20 below zero just made it seem like obvious bullshit from the word go. Why not go to working class area with a lot more whites on a non-sub zero night to spin the yarn?

This idiot thought he needed to actually enact a hoax theater with two other guys he paid instead of just lying all by his lonesome and probably getting away with it. Only Jussie could have ratted our Jussie then.

So he needed a night where the streets were empty because he didn’t want to risk any IRL witnesses to his Nigerian MAGA drama. He thought 20 below temps provided the perfect cover for his hoax instead of realizing it did the exact opposite.

I didn’t know about him faking anthrax hate mail a few days prior to this shit either. I wonder if that was his awful attempt at “foreshadowing” or if that not illiciting the desired attention and results he wanted he decided to up the ante with a fake attack.

I will be curious to find out what event, or what he was trying to prevent, spurred him to perpetuate the hoaxes. Fearing he was Losing his job on Empire seems likely, but who knows. I wonder if the show will backtrack on the “we weren’t writing off Jussie.” Ironically he’s ensured his ass is fired and he’s unemployable for a long time.

More specific details coming out. These "plain red hats" were likely the ones confiscated from their houses during the police raid - Jesse claims that the attackers weren't wearing the hats though so maybe that was part of the plan and they left it at home, or maybe they were the hats while accosting him and then Jussie decided that they sounded a little too convenient.

It's like they planned that date in advance and then were too lazy to reschedule even when the weather destroyed what credibility the story could have had.

I’d never heard the dudes name, never seen his face and was only dimly was aware of the show he was on existed.

This truly would have been the perfect profile raising PR stunt if he hadn’t been so unbelievably fucking stupid executing it. Had he succeeded he would have gotten all kinds of pity-gigs from SJW Hollywood hurrying to “stand in solidarity” and cash in on his name recognition, lots of interviews lauding his bravery, probably some absurd awards from SJW orgs.

If Jussie has just a few more IQ points he might have managed to pull off a very effective, career boosting hoax by taking advantage of media’s gullibility and SJW hunger to “listen and believe” anything a gay POC accuses evil MAGA white dudes of doing.

The GMA interview gives a particularly hilarious insight into Jussie’s “refined” stupidity and epic arrogance and makes it obvious why he could never succeed pulling any type of hoax. The CPD played him like a fiddle, probably still laughing to how easy it was to nail his ass to the wall.
