Alright caught up now. I see a lot of speculation on the making of from folks. So let me just say now, all you need to know is here:
https://sfdebris.com/videos/special/herosjourney.php <-- Star Wars
https://sfdebris.com/videos/special/shadowsjourney.php <-- ESB & RotJ
https://sfdebris.com/videos/special/hermitsjourney.php <-- Prequels up to the sale to Disney
Trust me, your questions are answered there. Every one of them I've seen is addressed somewhere in those videos Chuck made. i.e. What happened then and now? As he pointed out, THEN - George Lucas was hanging out with the likes of Spielberg & Scorsese at the top of their game. They had input on SW. Later? He wasn't. And so on.
(the Ewoks cartoon/movies, I Jedi Jedi Search, shit from Jedi Prince, the Holiday Special and even the infamous Skippy...)
Wait you don't mean...
Yes. Disney even recanonized canonized Skippy the Jedi Droid (which was originally not even canon under the EU since it was just a comedic story) in their "From a Certain Point of View" novel. In it, Skippy desires to be loved... Yes, loved. And he's dying from a lack of love... But he nobly realizes that he must sacrifice himself for the greater good of the galaxy and blows up his own motivator, and unlike with Skippy, this shit is treated as absolutely serious, but it gets a pass "cuz Disney".
AHHHHH. Why do they have to shit all over
my representation? No love for Jedi droids?
And no, it won't stop being funny to me either that they took a joke story and made it canon serious.
Was I, Jedi really hated that much? I just finished it and it wasn't a great novel by any means, the first person perspective was a bit jarring and Corran Horn comes off as a hilariously stereotypical Mary Sue (author OC self-insert into a story that wasn't his, awesome badass backstory, Corellian super special secret jedi lineage to name a few) but I didn't get the impression that is was hated quite as much as well, the Jedi Academy trilogy that it basically partially retcons.
I may need to reread it but I really liked
I, Jedi if just for the fact that it made an interesting limitation for Lucas' Mary Sue order (and let's face it, ALL jedi are mary sues) that everybody should have run with. (it would also give extra narrative umph to Anakin if he was the only one without limitations) That Corran took what he had and did what he could with it I found interesting and would have liked to seen more first person stories of jedi overcoming their force limitations.
The only thing is there's some Luke x Leia fluff that never amounts to anything but its one of those things that one expects because this was before ESB but it still comes off as odd.
Not true. Leia kisses Luke twice in ESB.
Unfortunately you can't sort that chart by publication date, but it sure looks like there's not much content from 1984 to 1991.
#neverForget
It reminds me of the talk in this thread previously concerning the Disney films being a sort of "blank canvas" movies where people fill in all the many blanks or confusing scenes with their own fanfiction. Something tells me Hux (and several others) are a strong example of this. Its like each new fans has their own version of Hux and other characters in their headcanon with some pre-conceived expectations based on mental fanfiction they conceived as they watched the new films.
Yay! You got it right and with an appropriate example! I give you an A+.
My only actual grievances with the prequels
The prequels have their own writing problems separate and distinct from the sequels. The single biggest is that there's very little material in tPM and AotC meaning that RotS has to be overstuffed.
I guess part of the reason why the OT was so great was because George was constantly under pressure and restrictions to the point of stress, along with vocal editors who kept things in-line, unlike now where everyone had to do what he said.
See above
with said cape only being used for ESB.
Not true. He wore a cape as a general in RotJ.
See, I think with all the info about Aphra, the one missing link to her popularity was her being a chink.
Now it all makes sense, there's just a few thirsty idiots with yellowfever, dreaming of their cute kickass asian waifu in SPAAAAAAAAAAACE.
lol The sad part is Aphra COULD be an interesting character. But just like all things SJWs just never seem to be able to show
restraint. Pull back, don't over do it. Earn the character moments. Instead they just go full tilt at everything like hyper toddlers.
One of these days I'm going to post pictures of two comic pages, both involving Boba Fett in a bar. One from the Disney days, one from Dark Horse. If you can spot the contrast (besides the difference in art) you'll see what I mean.
Also, what the fuck kind of a thirsty motherfucker is Finn that he essentially sees a woman for a couple minutes and goes "Deeeeeerp I wanna suck faces with her" within minutes. At this rate, we might count ourselves lucky that he didn't end up interested in Phasma, after all, he has had more on-screen interaction with her than he had with Rose or Rey.
Now I get it. Working under Phasma - the only visible lady - gave Finn a kind of Oedipus complex so now he's all into take charge, domineering women. So of course he's attracted to Rey.
