I like how the best description they could make for that character was "He's just like this character from this other cartoon!"

In college I had a writing professor who had a rule that if you ever described any of your characters like that she'd give you a zero for the entire class because that's a very lazy way to create characters that will hurt you in the long run because at some point you'll end up actually turning your character into that character

That professor was a very wise woman.

But you don't get it, he's that character "done right"

You don't know how much I've been wishing lately that Enter had my professor because if he'd tried to use that excuse as well as a few of his other ones she would've torn him a new one.

Also, from her description
That annoying girl said:
This series gets the Pride Flag approval, for having characters who are gay.
By that logic, any show that has gay characters, doesn't matter how messy of a portray they have, is a decent representation.

Too bad he doesn't want to actually go to school and learn how to write. Or hell, just read up on some screenwriting/literature writing techniques to get a better idea of how to create and write good characters and stories.

To be honest, I sometimes wonder how much you need to go to school in order to learn how to write a good character. I mean, there are some things people can catch on by actually reading good literature and other stuff.

The problem is really more in the fact that Enter for his own shit has also some of the worst ideas for world building imaginable on his hand.
Like, the designs he wants to work with are too saccharine if you ask me, his world is somehow simultaneously not too far out there in terms of imaginative premise (compared e.g. to KND) yet also it is too far out there compared to stuff like Hey Arnold or Recess, his story ideas are dull etc.

Enter if anything needs to start not just from scratch with the characters, he needs to start from scratch with the world he has in mind.

For people who haven't watched the whole podcast, it's basically an hour of Enter saying "I don't know" and "That doesn't seem important" while Panda slowly experiences something like dawning horror. Of course he's too polite to call Enter out, but as the podcast goes on you can hear it in his voice.

I also listened to that entire sinking ship of an "interview" and I feel like I lost a few brain cells that imploded on themselves.

Some boring highlights:
- Alpha asks Enter about if he immediately decided against outsourcing, to which Enter immediately "uhhh"s and it's obvious Enter never even thought about it.
- Alpha brings up age of consent and the reason why it exists is because children aren't inherently wise and wisdom and knowledge come with age; Enter counters with suspension of disbelief
- Alpha asks why alcohol and things "of that nature" are off limits in the show when Enter claims he'll tackle the issue of war. Enter says he's not "comfortable" with the subject matter.
- Alpha asks how elders work in this wacky world's hierarchy. Enter says he doesn't have an answer yet because he wants to "get it right".
- Enter confirms that kids see marriage as "adult stuff" and that kids aren't involved in adult courtship
- "The series is inspired by songs, movies, books..." - Enter
- Enter says the books he wrote are "alternate universes" to his canon
- Alpha asks, "what's changed within the four years you've been developing this?" Enter replies, "uh well...'a lot' is the obvious answers..."
- Enter confirms he plans to have two patreons: one for himself and one for Growing Around
- When asked if there will be a character in a wheelchair since Enter is crowning himself as a king of diversity, Enter quickly answers no because that's going into medical stuff which he is strictly against exploring.
- Alpha asks if Mr.Enter will create social media for Growing Around. He automatically assumes he means a twitter to roleplay as one of the characters.
- "Creating the cars was one of the greatest logical hurdles of growing around." - Enter. He also points out that someone else gave him the idea for "beetle" cars.

Enter doesn't even have his OWN ideas. It's fine to be inspired by other pieces of media--it's unavoidable unless you live in a cave and have never consumed media in your life.
But the fact that he can't answer basic questions about his own universe (what social class are the elderly? How does medicine work?) that he's been simmering in for four years shows how uncreative and downright dumb he really is.
He might be halfway decent at reviewing media, but that does not a creator make.

I realize I'm personally a bit of a creative snob myself and can't really out myself as a successful writer without breaking anonymity, but imo creativity (to some extent) cannot be taught. Some people aren't cut out for it, the same way some people aren't cut out for physical labor or sitting in a chair for hours on end.

Enter needs to completely scrap the idea and actually listen to criticism if he wants his work to be even mediocre at best.
But I don't think he could ever create his own shit and it actually be considered anything above average.

/co/ found the Growing Around wiki and is having some fun with it.

This thread's still going?!

4chan's already got their dirty-ass hands on the Wiki for this BS. It's definitely over, now - as if it wasn't over before this failed attempt at making "something" even remotely began.
