We have just lost cabin pressure.

Backpage was seized because the Communications Decency Act was amended to allow LEO to pierce the veil and come after hosts and services when users had broken the law. This may seem trivial, but the CDA's safe harbor provisions is what enables every site that exists and allows user-generated content to be self-published.

4chan? At risk. 8chan? At risk.
Encyclopedia Dramatica? At risk. Kiwi Farms? At risk. Every other web forum? At risk.
Facebook, Google Plus, YouTube, Twitter, Gab? At risk.

If the CDA continues down this path we will see our largest export (culture and technology) be swiftly transplanted to other countries with safe harbor provisions.

May be :late: and/or :dumb:, but whatever happened to all that hysteria over Net Neutrality's repeal?
Apples and oranges you are looking at here.

Net Neutrality deals with corporations being able to serve you sponsored (paid for) content faster and easier than non-sponsored (non-paid for) content. This opens the door for major corporations and other money sources to literally "pay" for what is easier to access on the internet.

This doesn't relate to the legal obligation to site owner's liability to being criminally exposed to stupid shit users do when they use their site.

and does it work? if so good for them
FBI and NSA honeypots have been a thing since the late 90's. Child Porn is just as rampant now as it was back then apparently. This is just going off of criminal conviction rates over the last 10 years available from the DOJ. Convictions are up, but there's no sign of slowing.

If a government grants itself sweeping powers and promises it's only for a narrow purpose, then they're lying and the sweeping powers are the purpose.
In the UK, they enacted all the anti-terror legislation with promises that it would never be used for any other purpose and never against legit non-criminals, and then the labour government used it to seize assets when Iceland's economy was tanking at the start of the global financial downturn. Iceland isn't a terrorist organisation, nor are their banks.

No, and the agents who work those schemes are pedophiles who continuously steal and publish the federal child pornography database.

Sorry sperg. This shit doesn't work and it doesn't justify the continuous depression of our rights to privacy and speech. Here's a lifehack for you: if you ever see a law that includes the words "child pornography" or "child [sex] trafficking" in the long title, it has nothing to do with helping children.

Plus, even if the government does use the child pornography that they possess in order to catch criminals, who knows how many children are sexually abused in order to produce that pornography? There is no ethical use of child pornography. Not even by people who want to use it to catch pedophiles. You’re using an abused child as a honeypot. That is wrong no matter who does it.

Are you assuming their pedos or are they actually pedos?

If I was a cop who was transferred to the child porn unit, I'd probably ask for a transfer out within a week before I killed myself for losing all faith in the human race.

Anyone left behind is either a sociopath, or it's their version of working for Playboy. Maybe both.

They are pedophiles. They get arrested for their smuggling and non-pedophiles on the assignment suffer psychological duress and quit.

You know, this makes what happened last year with multiple child porn rings on Twitter going completely unpunished make a lot more sense.

This shit is depressing. Really, really depressing.

If they're shutting down websites for obscene material, can someone email them about DeviantART and Fur Affinity?

New I'm kinda not surprised. The one for my area was literally all prostitutes in the "personals" section. There were also people selling drugs using code.

I think all the prostitutes will just move to Craigslist like all normal people.
