After decades of relegating its LGBTQ characters to the sidelines, Marvel really turned things around with America and Iceman, its first two ongoing series featuring queer characters as their titular leads. Both books have been important additions to Marvel’s ever-expanding portfolio, but it seems as if the time has come for at least one of them to end. March’s comics solicitations are out this week and a number of titles including America are conspicuously missing, which heavily implies that the titles have been canceled. This afternoon, Marvel editor Heather Antos confirmed that Gwenpool, another title missing from the March solicits, was definitely canceled, further suggesting that any titles missing from the lineup as of today are done for.

This story sounds very familiar...

"Hitler's mind apparently survived the destruction of the Cosmic Cube and was transmitted into yet another cloned body."

I guess if it was good enough for Hitler.
Going off rumors of how this was planned out, Secret Empire would've been loved by SJWs if they read it and not complained about twists without context. If rumors were true they originally wanted to pull a Nomad with every Marvel hero as a metaphor for Trump and have Sam Wilson be the hero as he was going to be "THE" Captain America. Unfortunately, the crowd they were courting still don't see Sam as Captain America despite how much they were pushing for it and so they switched plans to Steve being a Pokemon. It's not surprising since most of the people on Twitter thought it was connected to the MCU but the implications of not even SJWs seeing replacements as legitimate is interesting. It looked like it was going to be "Black Man defeats his racist white predecessor: the Marvel Comics event"

Either way, the end result was a bad story that obliterated Nick Spencer's career and damaged the Marvel brand. Guess that's what you get with failed politicians being comic writers.

How long is it gonna be now until Marvel pulls out of the gaming and comic industry entirely to focus solely on movies?

I wish they'd release some old school side scrolling beat 'em ups on a major platform like the Xbox One.

Imagine something like the old X-men arcade game but with solid graphics.

I wish they would port over MVC2 and Marvel vs Capcom origins to PC.

They can't even if they wanted to as Marvel Studios is a separate entity now. The comics, games, and TV/Netflix stuff is under Marvel Entertainment.

Meanwhile in the UK, 2000AD created an openly gay hero who was also an insufferably narcissistic letch like Iceman, and often preferred making catty complaints about getting his expensive clothes ruined to actually fighting villains.

dwsib_unfairness.jpg

His name was Devlin Waugh, and he ended up being one of the comic’s most popular characters next to Judge Dredd. And this was taking place in 1992, of all times, when Liefeld and co were doing their best to turn comic books into a scowly, scratchy-lined, muscle-bound mess.

True, it’s played for laughs, and British culture does love their sharp-suited, sharper-tongued queens, but still.

On another ironic note, 2000AD also tried their hand at pandering to the woke young things of the late 1980s with Crisis, an anthology comic that set out to highlight and explore all sorts of socio-political issues affecting a world screaming all too quickly into the 90s.

It was about as subtle and preachy as you think.

Jesus christ he's literally staring directly at the reader as he says that.

I'm surprised the X-Men were largely untouched by the SJW era in lieu of, say, Daredevil.

Im not much into comic books (only read big events) but things i have heard is that Marvel throwed those titles just to appease the stupids and disney let them because they wanted to fuck with Fox, they really wanted to get their properties back but lel in the end they got the whole cake,

Wait, wait wait waitwaitwait. I didn't know about that. How fucked up is that?

Comicstores were forced to waste money on shelf-warmers if they wanted to buy normal stuff that actually sells? I can understand that Marvel wants to have some sort of "look how successful we are" with this, but that was literally shitting where you eat.

Expect this things to end soon, the house of the mouse are going to pump very hard the cinematic universe and now that they have all the titles, they need everything selling and working properly, if something is failing it get the axe, japan style they are not going to give a shit if the serie has a LGBTBBQSLINVIDIA+++++ MC

There's a whole lot of misinformation because people got super offended on twitter without reading it.

Basically this was during a period where the Super Soldier serum wore off leaving him as an old man and during an event about a cosmic cube, there was a flash of light and he became young again. The following Captain America series had the "Hail Hydra" scene. After that you had Secret Empire where Hydra Cap takes over America which concluded with the same cosmic cube being used to bring back the real Steve Rogers who defeats him. Real Steve was trapped inside the cube during that whole time when the Hydra guy was running around.
Honestly, the only thing that bothered me with this was that Nick Spencer explicitly, repeatedly said that it was 100% the real Steve Rogers. That there was absolutely no brainwashing involved. That this was absolutely totally for real the way Steve Rogers has always been forever and ever and would always be this Hydra Cap forever after this. And then - oh noes it was a cosmic cube! oh noes it's not the REAL steve rogers at all! Hark it was a ruse all along! haha he totally got us all with his clever ruse.

only it's literally what people were saying it was going to be after that first issue came out. he just dug himself an early grave with his 100% dedication to doubling down.

My man, you have exquisite taste. Love and Rockets is a sorely underrated series and then some. It's also a prime example of a comic that meets a majority of the dangerhair's demands, but they don't ever acknowledge it for whatever arbitrary reason: it's written by men, it's an indie comic... whatever. Their loss, I suppose.

L&R is created by two Hispanic men, with a large focus on Maggie and Hopey, two LGBT Latinas. The Tumblr Brigade would normally eat that shit up, but since it's not a mainstream property they can use to push an agenda, then they pretend it doesn't exist so they can push the narrative that comics are only for, by, and about straight white men.

Sort of. When the Cube restored Steve's youth, it also secretly altered his timeline so that him and his mother were recruited into Hydra when he was a boy. The Cosmic Cubes are "eggs" for young cosmic beings, and the Cube used on Steve was a little girl named Kobik who was tricked by the Red Skull into fucking with Steve's past. Eventually Bucky gets Kobik back, convinces her that the Skull manipulated her, and brings out the version of Steve from his unaltered timeline (which stayed hidden in Kobik's mind) to fight HydraCap.

It was still really fucking bad. Also super tasteless, since the real life Bund threatened the creators of Captain America and all. You have to be pretty dumb to tell everyone "Yeah I decided that this character who was created by two Jewish guys because they hated Nazis was actually a secret Nazi for the entire history of the character" even if you built yourself a secret back door.

No focus in the MCU, no screeching from tumblrinas.

the moronic Dan Slott being removed from Amazing Spider-Man.

THE EVIL IS DEFEATED.

Technically her alias is "Spider-Woman" but the book isn't called that because they wanted to cash in on Gwen Stacy being popular in the Andrew Garfield movies like eons ago and they already had a different Spider-Woman comic which has long since been cancelled (the one with the pregnancy plot).

I don't think any of those girls idolizing Emma Stone are still around.

I'm still around. but I don't think I should count count since I'm more for the 70s comics stuff over anything else, but Emma's Gwen was nice. I dunno, i guess I like Gwen in general, but her character is just written all over the place. It doesn't help that her death really overshadowed anything else she had going for, and if you're gonna use her in new stuff without killing her you have to reinvent the character.

Bringing her back to life at this point would be moot, sorta like bringing Batman's parents back. The days of the Betty-Veronica catfights are over, and what else can she do if Peter has grown up and MJ left? We already have Spider Gwen. What, they'll pump her up with superpowers and fight Norman Osborn one-on-one?

I'm in your camp! This is what comics are about!

That's just what's going on these days. Nobody wants fun anymore. Of course if they really wanted that sort of stuff, perhaps they should bring these back...

I love the old Spidey-themed Betty and Veronica stories with MJ and Gwen. Cheesy, sure, but also very laid-back and fun. I admit I do like the soap-opera themes over the fights most of the time...

I hope that the Marvel Comics and the new EIC are going to fix the shit they made, because right DC are putting out some good comics(Metal,White Knight,Doomsday Clock(arguable) and a ton of other stuff).Canning their shitty stuff and bringing back the older character is a step in the right direction.

I like to imagine that these comics only got shitcanned because the S/J/Ws that slobber over those titles REEEEED at the new EIC of Marvel when it was discovered that he wrote comics 10 years ago under the identity of an Asian person.

Funny how silent they are that the white guy that runs Cracked (Jason Pargin) stills writes articles under his fake Asian name of David Wong.
