As much as I feel like Android 21 is gonna be Waifu of 2018, I'm even more excited of Tenshinhan and friggin' Yamcha being announced!
They're so beautiful!


I probably should be watching more obscure and substantial stuff I've never seen before, but with my two Earthling boys being announced I couldn't help but go on binge watching the OG Dragon Ball (The Japanese dub, I can barely stand the pre-Kai Funimation dub). I'm surprised just how well the humor still works, big props to the voice actors' excellent delivery. Some of this stuff I haven't seen since I was 10, so the nostalgia factor is kicking in something fierce, but even without that it holds up really well. The way the show gradually gets darker and more serious while still retaining it's humor and adventurous, starry-eyed wonder is also impressive. Sure, DBZ has some great moments too, and it's obvious Toriyama has improved as an author over time (none of the characters in DB are as complex as Vegeta), but I'd say as a complete package Dragon Ball still takes the cake.

Oh, and I'm also watching Dragon Ball Super. Sure, it has its downs, but when it's good... damn! Hope they don't fuck up the one hour special coming this October. It also helps that the American Dub is really good, so I have another reason to watch the episodes again.

While I really really love One Piece, I'm kind of hesitant to watch it beyond the Fishman Island Arc. On the one hand I absolutely adore the voice cast and soundtrack, on the other hand the thing I've heard about the later arcs' abysmal pace and production values is pretty off-putting. Sure, I could just stick to the Manga, but I just love the voice acting so much...

At least someone remembered Tenshinhan existed (the Buu arc was lonely without him).

I can never get enough of Tien's Vollyball Fist and that triangle blast thing he did to Cell.

And I completely agree with your sentiments on One Piece. The anime completely ruined the well-written Dressrosa Arc which had some amazing moments by having extremely lazy and shoddy animation and pacing. It's a shame since I really thought that arc was going to be a good showcase for friends who were not into One Piece.

I hear you, man. While I'm enjoying it so far for the most part, the current Universal Survival arc's biggest failing is how Tenshinhan barely got to do anything till he was disqualified. Somebody at TOEI must really hate the Titanic Triclops.

I hope they don't forget to make him yell like a girl while performing his volleyball attack. Also, now that Yamcha's been announced, one of the Saibamen absolutely has to make it into the roster!

As for One Piece, as much as I love the voice cast I think I'll take the route of reading the manga and only checking out the more notable (and better animated) moments in the Anime once I'm done with an arc.
 
I just watched the first episode of the dub of Ushio and Tora (more-or-less was just testing it out for now since I don't really wanna watch it on KissAnime), and I must say I really love it. David Matranga didn't disappoint as Ushio, Brett Weaver's return as Tora was strong and I'm just in love with his performance, and I love that Luci Christian was cast as Mayuko. The only iffy casting choice I can think of is whoever they got to be Asako, but it wasn't like she was terrible, so it'll grow on me. (Though John Swasey is a fucking awesome voice actor, I'm honestly a little nervous that he was cast as Hakumen no Mono, Megumi Hayashibara was just too damn perfect. But I like that he's Shigure, so eh.)

Gonna ask sometime tomorrow if the one brother wants to rewatch it dubbed this time, though I'll have to wait until we get a physical DVD copy or it shows up on 9anime, whichever comes first.
 
So, I've been continuing on with Dougram and Golion. Animation aside, I really have some trouble believing these both were made the same year. Dougram has this oppressive nature to it, that there's this web of politics that has ensnared the characters, while Golion has some serious tonal issues with it's darker moments and it's lighter ones. The former series is more interesting, but the latter is still really enjoyable in its own right (never watched Voltron as a kid).
