You say genocide as if the concept itself occurred upon the day Muhammad found the Banu Qurayza. The ancient world was not a peaceful place. Genghis Khan exterminated approximately half of Mongol tribes, killing entire nations. Timur killed 5% of the world’s population, targeting Christains, Jews, and Shi’ites. Ran Min killed hundreds of thousands of Chinese minorities based on their appearance. Shaka Zulu slaughtered neighboring tribes under Mfecane, doing a better job depopulating Africa than colonizer. The Manchu killed a whopping 80% of the Dzungar. The Moari almost wiped out the populations on neighboring islands. You don’t do any of that on accident and without great disdain for those unlike you. Or without a bunch of people agreeing with you and carrying out those acts. Seeing Muhammad as a typical phenomenon of human history, rather than a horrendous oddity, helps seeing how Islam gained traction in the first place and why it’s still around.
