Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Though the anti-anime sentiment here specifically stems from people’s opinions being informed by null, whose ODD response to receiving recommendations was to push back then post hoc a contrived reason to justify his reaction.
wdym? Josh is the face of anime.

I love his fake hatred for a lot of it. Like even if you hate it, you know certain things about it because you grew up around it, no question. So if he's talking about anime he'll be like, "God, anime sucks, like that one with the fighting, what's it's name? Dragon Basket P? Yeah, I don't watch anime and hate it, that character with the spikey black hair, Goo-Koo was it? Yeah, I have no idea who he is... Have I told you yet I've never watched anime and hate it and wouldn't be caught dead watching it? Cause it's true... okay?"

Just comes off as "methinks the lady doth protest too much". Like even if you claim to hate it, you know about Dragon Ball Z, you couldn't get away from it in the early 2000s, so getting the name hilariously wrong and continuing to proclaim "you don't know anything about anime". Is just really funny to me because he obviously knows what it is.
FFS in the Gator Graduation Stream he and PPP admitted to watching Inuyasha. But it's whatever, his main gripe is and always has been with the Lolicons who fuck everything up for the rest of us. Which I agree, that shit should have stayed in Japan.

It shines through even more because the way he gets things wrong for any other media is in a completely different manner: he’ll know the broad strokes while being mistaken on details or motivation, which is how literally every other human being on the planet gets things wrong.

But it's whatever, his main gripe is and always has been with the Lolicons who fuck everything up for the rest of us.
The lolicons are a post hoc justification to his real motivation towards hating anime: having to spend his entire day answer emails with anime recommendations in them.

It's very archaic, that's for sure. Like yeah 20 years ago anime had a very degenerate (relatively) subculture with plenty of the people there becoming trannies, but nowadays anime is very normie thing.

I read the Akira manga. It was, like the movie, alright. Plot is debatably even more of a mess because it's longer and the sheer contrivance of these unarmed civilians escaping from government armed forces for the first half is almost some looney tunes shit. You know they're not going to die, but it happens anyway. When Tetsuo became a second Akira, I was just waiting for the story to end already.

Jesus Christ, so in a hilarious bit of synchronicity, I was watching Sam Hyde's newest "are you okay" upload, and both Goku and DBZ are mentioned within the first 10 minutes...

If this wetback-looking crazy horoscope cunt knows what Dragon Ball Z is, then Null's watched every fucking episode. Lol give me break.

Just finished watching "Record of Grancrest War" it was a rushed but ok show for me. (Also the comment sections hatred of princess was pretty funny i mean she DID do retarded shit and waste shit ton of lives and something other.....)

"The series takes place on a continent ruled by chaos. The chaos breeds disaster, but the Lords of the continent have the power of "Crest" that can calm the chaos and protect the people. However, before anyone realizes it, the rulers cast aside their creed of purifying the chaos, and instead start to fight each other for each others' Crests and to gain dominion over one another. Siluca, an isolated mage who scorns the Lords for abandoning their creed, and a wandering knight named Theo, who is on a journey to train to one day liberate his hometown, which is under tyrannical rule, make an everlasting oath to each other as master and servant and work together to reform this continent dominated by wars and chaos."

It's the opposite. Legend of the Overfiend (and to a lesser degree Bible Black) was the go to weird, fucked up anime. But you sought those out because they were weird and extreme. In contrast to today where talking about anime you have a 20% chance of some fedora wearing neckbeard recommending some meoblob slice of life show that is incredibly uncomfortable for those not prepared for it.

Even Evangelion, a show that gets recommended constantly, is uncomfortable for normies, while the fanbase is outright revulsive to everyone. I was never a fan of the show, but there is stuff to like about it. You'd never know that talking to the fanbase because the only thing they seem to talk about is which mentally fucked up 14 year old they want to have sex with.

he just thinks pretending to be normal will get him laid
Lidi Drip must approve his choices.

Dude, the original Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z were huge hits down there. Dubbed in Spanish. There was a lot of anime at the time. I remember watching Magical DoReMi, Saint Seiya, Ghost Sweeper Mikami and Dr. Slump when I was forced to visit family down there.

It's impossible to enjoy anime normally when you're lumped in with body pillow humpers, trannies that watched too much Ranma, yuri and countless magical girl shows. Let's not forget the autistic Naruto runners. The less said about the actual deviants, the better.

It really depends on who you ask, but you'd sooner here a recommended on normie shows like Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man, Attack on Titan or Vinland Saga over some moeblob anime. Of course if you ask grognards they'd give old anime recommendations but they are the minority.

It's like saying you can't enjoy watching sports because you'd be lumped in with wife beaters.

It’s the old saying, “a few bad apples spoil the bunch,” whether it’s anime, comics, horror movies, video games, or anything else. In places like this, the focus always seems to land on the most extreme fans or the oddest individuals. As for moe, that's not really a popular genre anymore. There's a few shows here and there that focus on it, but they're few and far between. I usually ask people what they like and try to give them recommendations based on those favorites.

Certain fanbases are worse than others.

The topic of worst fanbase is heavily lopsided. Sportsball has the worse fanbase by far, because no matter how autistic people are on the internet, they don't riot and burn down half a town because a match didn't go their way. Second is Tumblr/CalArts types (troons I guess) because again, trying to get people to kill themselves because they made something a way you didn't like is hard to beat.

Where other hobbies differ is percentage. Warhammer is one of the worst simply because the percentage of normal to abhuman is heavily skewed. It's draining to try and talk about a hobby you enjoy, only to be drowned out by people complaining about GW prices and whatever the latest femstodes controversy is. It's also a fanbase that completely rejects all alternatives.

Anime is a tough one for me judge because I'm so far removed from it. There's an anime con local to me, and I'm tempted to attend, but I'm so outside of that fandom I don't know what to do. I assume the era of Yoai paddles and women complaining about cosplay are over, but I don't know what's in. Just recently I was talking to an anime fan and he'd never heard of, let alone seen, Akira. I took him to see it at the cinema and he hated it.

I know this is off-topic, and I am not too invested into it but aren't those two valid complaints about the hobby ?

Not to defend that guy, but I think this is something you will find everywhere. People get into something but are not even remotely familiar with the classics. This is probably a bottomless pit of discussion if that is okay or not.

Thing is that anime, especially nowadays, is a medium rather than a genre. I don't know what the trannies watch, but if I had to hazard a guess, they'd watch shows for children like Pokemon and the shonen of the year (to approach children), or lesbian bait (Gundam Witch), or "2 deep 4 U" trash, and that's when they aren't watching reruns of stuff they grew up on to get dopamine from nostalgia.
