Even if you think of it that way, Arsenal's been getting with doing this for ages. Suddenly it's a foul when it goes against them. Ignoring stuff like Rice bearhugging Mavro as well in the same corner

This is the end result of continued weakness of the officials on 'soft' fouls

Yeah I don't disagree with the idea that it happens all the time because it does. The problem comes down to the inconsistent refereeing and the feckless governing bodies who refuse to clamp down on shit one way or the other. Either all of the bullshit that happens in the box is ok or none of it is. None of this fluctuation from game to game, week to week. It's the same with rules not being applied properly like yellows for simulation. The rules are clear, but yet and still you'll get one player booked for every 30 instances of simulation. And different referees using their subjective interpretations of the law leading to inconsistent calls doesn't help to alleviate the frustration we all feel.

I don't know what the answer is but it's obvious the PGMOL et al. aren't fit for purpose.

I'm with you for the most part. A big part of it is that there are only 3 refs on the pitch and they've all been trained to watch the ball. Off-the-ball fouls are very rarely seen, and that includes all the shit players get up to in the box on corners.

Possible middle ground: If you're going to go to VAR, review the entire play. Sure, Dickhead grabbed Asshole's jersey, but Fuckface was trying to hump Jerkoff's leg like an ill-trained dog. Retake the kick, and keep your hands to yourselves boys.

Next weekend is the final matchday in Bundesliga so here's a little effort post about what can happen and what cannot happen.

The top

First 3 places are all set.
Bayern are champions but won't break another record for points accumulated bc they fucked up their last matches.
Dortmund is Dortmund and RB Leipzig is playing their best season so far after points.

Stuttgart, Hoffenheim and Leverkusen are fighting for the last remaining CL spot with Leverkusen having the worst chances.
A strong Stuttgart is going to face a struggling Frankfurt (who still could get in the Conference League) while Hoffenheim is going to face Borussia Mönchengladbach who are in the no man's land of the league and are on a downward spiral.

Freiburg have the best chances to secure the Conference League spot and they are facing RB Leipzig who have nothing to gain anymore. Freiburg also plays in the Euroleague final and if they win it will be their biggest triumph ever and they will play Champions League while the Conference League spot will be lost for the eceryone else if they rank 7th in the end bc the spot won't be given to the next team. Sucks to be Frankfurt I guess ...

Augsburg picked up some steam over the last few games and thus also have a shot on the Conference League spot.

The drama at the end

As you see Bremen is saved but as you also see all three contenders for the relegation have the same amount of points. Surprisingly Heidenheim who have been last basically the whole season overcame a 10 point gap in the last matches and even pushed St. Pauli down.
Heidenheim is going to face Mainz but the more interesting match will be Wolfsburg vs St. Pauli. Hilarity can ensure if Wolfsburg and St. Pauli only tie while Heidenheim wins bc then Heidenheim jumps on 16th and will have to more matches against the 3rd ranked team of 2. Bundesliga. Historically the Bundesliga team prevails in these matches (only happened like once or twice that the 2. Bundesliga team actually got promoted after the two matches).

The (sad) rest

has nothing to win and nothing to lose.

Under normal circumstances, West Ham go down from here. I don't think these are normal circumstances though, it's exceedingly rare for any teams to even get relegated with the points either Tottenham or West Ham have at the end of the season, never mind with 2 games left.

West Ham have a bad Newcastle with nothing to play for and Tottenham have a bad (tired) Chelsea with potentially nothing to play for if they win the FA Cup (its a derby but still)
Then the final game is West Ham at home against a stubborn Leeds and Tottenham have Everton with a lot to play for.
Could go either way for me but West Ham could fuck it up at Newcastle very easily if their defense falls apart.

Always have the feeling Millwall prefers staying in the Championship rather than getting promoted and having to deal with media pressure on their fanbase/security/political related questionings every single week.

Meanwhile in Australian state league, a coach sacked for poor performance and a player from the same team sacked for shitting on a car.
"It came days after Port Melbourne acknowledged an incident involving a player. A video had circulated on social media, reportedly showing a player defecating on a car."

Their spy was caught on camera :story:

Undercover secret fucking squirrel, that one. Stand behind a tree, they’ll never see you!

So wrong that Southampton are allowed to potentially profit from that in the millions if they get promoted.

Mind you, Boro being the classic bottlers was always on the cards, bloke with his iPhone camera out behind a tree or not.

Saw on Reddit that a disciplinary panel are using a 6 point deduction given to Canada's Womens Team for this kind of spying as a reference, and that Boro are still actively training in case they're given a place in the final. So this could backfire on Soton big time, they've obviously been caught red handed

They really should take the massive profit of promotion into consideration here. If spying nets you a few points off next time you go down and maybe a fine, what difference does that make when promotion means multiple millions in club’s coffers? The Canadian Women’s Team doesn’t quite compare. But typical of TPTB to let everything slide.

I take it Boro are looking into legal action?

IIRC during spygate (leeds vs derby) it was just a fine as punishment. God I miss Bielsa

Not only is it good to see Milwall scum have their dreams dashed, the opportunity to have Chelsea fans get ragebaited by YOU'RE GETTING MAULED BY THE TIGERS is too good to pass up

I still think Spurs stay up sadly, but a win for us on Sunday keeps it very open

You're right, but they toughened up the rules afterwards so they could punish spying more harshly. From the BBC:

When Leeds United were found guilty of spying on Derby seven years ago, they were fined £200,000.

But there are a couple of crucial differences.

Firstly, in 2019 there was no rule which outlawed watching the opposition train before a game.

Leeds could only be charged with breaching regulation E.4, which says clubs must act in the "utmost good faith" to one another.

As a result, the EFL brought in regulation 127, which specifically states "no club shall directly or indirectly observe (or attempt to observe) another club's training session in the period of 72 hours prior to any match".

Southampton are charged with breaching both, and they have made no attempt to deny the allegations.

Then there is the timing. Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa was caught sending a member of his staff to Derby's training ground in the middle of January, hardly a crucial point of the season.

But Saints stand accused of spying on their opponents before one of the most important games of the season, a play-off semi-final.

The feeling at Boro is that if Saints go on to beat Hull and win promotion, the Premier League millions will more than offset any fine.

Boro want Southampton thrown out of the play-offs.

That would most likely be facilitated by Boro being given a default 3-0 win for the first leg, and therefore a 4-2 aggregate victory.
