I think for a lot of these laws you’re fine until whichever alphabet agency you’ve annoyed decides to come after you. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone being busted for 922R compliance issues but they sure as hell would use it against someone if they wanted to.

Doesn't matter. The laws are deliberately kind of vague to make prosecution easier and you don't have to be found guilty for it to ruin your life. The process alone can be punishment enough that even if you are found innocent you've been through the ringer and come out poorer. Don't fuck around with this stuff.
